Chapter 1111: The Real Besse
"As long as I take Hannah away from Doyle and return her to Northfield, I can protect her and ensure Doyle never sees her again," Oscar stated bluntly.
Carol scrutinized him. She never expected the leader of Northfield to go to such lengths for a woman. Given his status, he could have appealed directly to the King of Jolencami for Hannah's release. Even if he feared alerting Doyle, he could have sent someone else. He shouldn't have gone himself.
"Hannah is important to me," Oscar emphasized. He knew Carol was judging him, so he admitted it frankly. "I'll take Hannah away. Once she's gone, Doyle will eventually forget about her and be with Besse again."
"What do you want me to do?" Carol asked, impatient for action. She wanted Hannah out of sight immediately.
"Find out where Hannah is and distract Doyle while I take her away."
"I might manage it tonight, but I can't guarantee anything after. You saw how he resisted me earlier. I can't get him alone now."
"There's someone who can make him leave Hannah."
"Who?"
"Besse."
Carol considered this, seeing it as their only option.
"I heard your argument with Doyle. He avoids you when he's with Besse, but if they speak alone, despite their current estrangement, I think he still feels some guilt toward her. If she asks him something tonight, he might agree," Oscar explained.
"Let's wait until later. Things are too tense now, after what happened with Doyle. If I ask Besse to talk to him, he might suspect it's my idea and refuse."
Oscar agreed. "There's no need to rush."
"Since you're at the palace, please stay overnight. I'll arrange a room for you."
"Thank you, Your Majesty. But I'm here on personal business. I wouldn't have come if not for the royal family, so I don't wish to disturb the King."
Carol understood. "Then I'll see you out."
"Before I leave, I want to meet Besse and learn more about her relationship with Doyle," Oscar requested.
Carol agreed.
Oscar followed her into the palace. Had he known of Carol's objections to Hannah and Doyle, he and Theodore wouldn't have wasted so much time.
Carol led Oscar to a room. A maid opened the door.
"Your Majesty," the servant bowed.
"Is Besse asleep?"
"Princess Besse is awake."
"Leave us alone."
"Yes."
Carol entered Besse's room with Oscar. Medical equipment filled the room. Besse sat half-reclined on the bed, appearing frail and unwell. Her face resembled Hannah's. However, her weakened state was markedly different from Hannah's robust appearance.
"Besse, are you feeling better?" Carol asked with concern, a stark contrast to her earlier demeanor toward Doyle.
"I feel better now," Besse smiled gently. "Who is he?"
"The Commander of Northfield."
"Commander?" Besse seemed surprised.
"More importantly, he's Hannah's ex-husband. Hannah is now with Doyleโฆ"
"I know," Besse said with a bitter smile. The man she'd loved since childhood had fallen for someone else upon her awakening. It was understandably distressing.
"He's here to take Hannah away."
"But will Doyle agree?"
"That's why we're using my approach," Carol said.
"I'm afraid Doyle will be heartbroken," Besse murmured, her thoughts clearly centered on Doyle.
"Hannah doesn't like Doyle; he's merely clinging to hope," Carol explained.
Besse remained sad. Even though Hannah didn't reciprocate his feelings, Doyle had abandoned her.
"Don't be sad. Once Hannah's gone, Doyle will slowly return to you. You were lovers." Carol comforted her.
Besse nodded submissively. She couldn't give up on Doyle. To her, their separation felt like a mere nap, separating them from their happiest times.
"Do you need me to do anything?" Besse asked, sensing their purpose.
"The Commander and I believe you're the only one who can separate Doyle from Hannah. If you call him, the Commander will take Hannah away."
"What if Doyle doesn't comply?" Besse worried.
"He will eventually," Carol reassured, believing time would heal all wounds.
"Should I call him now?"
"Not today; tomorrow would be better."
"Okay."
Besse nodded, glancing at Oscar with a hint of aversion.
Oscar felt it. "Sorry to bother you." He knew who Besse was, and that was sufficient.
"Mr. Commander," Besse stopped him.
Oscar turned.
"Doyle is my husband. I never expected him to fall for another. If possible, please take Hannah away, and ensure she never reappears in Doyle's life," Besse pleaded, her gaze fixed on him.
Oscar didn't immediately agree. The final decision rested with Hannah. If she chose not to see Doyle again, he could ensure they never met; otherwise, he could do nothing.
