Chapter 125: Hannah Gained the Initiative
Mason's words shocked everyone. It was one thing to ask Hannah to explain his dismissal, but demanding she kneel and apologize was unacceptable. It had gone too far. No one dared speak, fearing further provocation might push Mason to his threatened action.
Suddenly, Mason spoke, forcing Hannah again. "If Hannah doesn't do it, I'll jump right now." He mimicked a jump.
Maxwell interjected righteously, "Hannah, quickly explain why you fired him and reassigned him. Hurry up!"
Hannah glanced at Maxwell, then back at Mason. "Haven't I already told you? How else do you want me to explain?"
"Hannah, you're a bully!" Mason fumed.
Maxwell yelled at Hannah, "Are you crazy? You're still provoking him? Are you so merciless?"
"Mason, come down. I'll give you a proper explanation," Hannah said, her calm voice seeming coldblooded.
"I won't come down," Mason declared fiercely. "Unless you explain and kneel, I'll die here."
Hannah's face fell. She was about to speak when Maxwell addressed Miguel directly. "Mr. Cooper, your daughter is trying to destroy Cooper Group. She won't listen to me. As her father and chairman, take some responsibility! You remain silent, defending your daughter. Doesn't your inaction disqualify you as chairman?"
Miguel, embarrassed by Maxwell's pointed words, looked at Hannah. He didn't know her plan or if she was truly prepared to sacrifice her life.
"If he kills himself, I'll quit immediately. I mean it," Maxwell declared, his noble character on full display. He wouldn't hesitate to sacrifice his career for a life.
"Yelling at my dad is pointless. This is my doing, Mr. Watson. If you want to be a hero, come at me," Hannah retorted, a hint of irony in her tone.
"Hannah, how did the Cooper family raise such a coldblooded child? I'm ashamed of Cooper Group."
"Who's ashamed? We'll see soon," Hannah replied coldly, taking a step toward Mason.
"Stop!" Mason reacted emotionally. "One step closer, and I jump."
Hannah halted.
"Kneel and apologize, and I'll come down. Otherwise, I die here," Mason roared.
"I promised Mr. Watson that if you die, I pay with my life," Hannah said, resuming her approach.
Mason, and everyone else, was frightened. Maxwell yelled, "Hannah, are you crazy? Come back!"
Ignoring him, Hannah steadily approached. Mason glanced behind him, watching this woman's unwavering advance. He didn't dare die; his plan, concocted with Maxwell, was merely to humiliate Hannah and force her out of Cooper Group. But she had turned the tables, forcing him into a corner.
"Don't come any closer!" Mason cried, sweat beading on his forehead.
Hannah sneered, her expression cold. Maxwell, knowing Mason wouldn't jump, tried to stop Hannah, but Jimmy blocked him. Hannah, anticipating this, had instructed Jimmy to prevent anyone from approaching.
Maxwell, thwarted, could only yell at Hannah. She stopped before Mason, who trembled visibly. Instead of pulling him down, Hannah climbed onto the rooftop railing, surprising everyone.
Miguel gasped, "Hannah!" She had already proven Mason wouldn't jump. She didn't need to pull him down; she only needed to expose his bluff.
Hannah, facing Mason, asked, "Are you really not afraid of death?"
"You...you..." Mason stammered, sweating and shaking.
"If you jump, I jump with you," Hannah stated resolutely. "I didn't say you wouldn't dare. I just said you could jump, and I won't stop you. If you jump, I'll pay you with my life. I mean it."
Mason's face paled. He almost jumped, but her determined gaze stopped him. He could only glare, speechless.
"I'm counting down. We either jump together or come down together. Your choice," Hannah said coldly.
"Don't threaten me. I'm old; I'm not afraid of death," Mason blustered.
"Three," Hannah began her countdown.
Mason watched, horrified. Everyone held their breath.
"Two."
Mason's nervousness was palpable.
"One."
