Chapter 154: Being Narrow-Minded

After his discharge from the hospital, Oscar returned home. His family remained until they had escorted him to his room. Before leaving, Venus spoke at length with Max, instructing him to carefully attend to Oscar. Robert and Thomas stood by, waiting. Hannah, as hostess, waited to see them out.

"Hannah," Thomas said abruptly.

Hannah turned to him. He gestured toward a corner, and they walked aside. Hannah was surprised by his initiative.

"What is it?" she asked.

"Did Janet visit him?"

Hannah hesitated. It was evident everyone knew of Thomas's unrequited feelings for Janet.

"She did," Thomas stated, more as a confirmation than a question. "She was here before you arrived."

"What did she do?"

"She didn't get the chance," Hannah replied vaguely, wondering if Janet would have tried something further with Oscar if she hadn't been prevented.

"Please keep an eye on Janet," Thomas said.

Hannah frowned, expecting him to defend Janet, given their history and Janet's past machinations against her marriage with Oscar. Instead, he simply warned, "Janet is aggressive and competitive. She won't passively watch the object of her affection show affection to another. She'll likely plot something against you. Be prepared."

"What's your relationship with Janet?" Hannah asked.

"I love her, but she doesn't love me."

"If you love her, shouldn't you defend her?"

"Preparing for her actions is the best way to protect her," Thomas replied frankly.

Hannah remained confused, but Thomas offered no further explanation, only repeating, "Just be careful."

Before Hannah could inquire further, Venus concluded her conversation. Thomas rejoined them, and Hannah saw them to their car.

Meanwhile, Max prepared Oscar's meal. Hannah, wanting to avoid interrupting, went upstairs. Opening her door, she discovered Oscar was missing. She had brought him to her room earlier to avoid suspicion from his parents, but now he was gone. Had he returned to his own room?

Before she could check, a sound from her bathroom interrupted herโ€”the shower running. She paused before entering, only to see Oscar's naked form directly in front of her. Suppressing a scream, she turned away.

"The doctor said you can't shower!" she exclaimed angrily.

Oscar ignored her, just as he had all morning since their argument. His behavior seemed incredibly narrow-minded.

"Oscar!" she called.

He remained silent. Gritting her teeth, Hannah turned off the shower before he could get thoroughly wet. He stared at her, as she stared back, her gaze fixed on his face.

"No shower!" she repeated.

"It's none of your business, Miss Cooper," Oscar retorted coldly. "You said you wanted to stay away from me. Why are you interfering?"

"Can't you stop the sarcasm?"

"Isn't that what you want?"

Speechless, Hannah reached for his arm to pull him from the bathroom, but he evaded her. Annoyance flared.

"Miss Cooper, watch your manners," Oscar said seriously.

Anger surged, prompting a near impulse to strike him. Taking a deep breath, she asked, "What do you want?"

"A shower."

"No. Anything but a shower!" she insisted.

He remained silent, staring.

"Alrightโ€ฆno shower, but I can grant one request," she compromised, acknowledging her responsibility for his injuries. She forced herself to be patient.

"I want to sleep with you," Oscar stated bluntly.

The impulse to strike him nearly overwhelmed Hannah, but she maintained control. What was wrong with him?

"Can't you see my condition? I can't even manage alone. What if I need to use the bathroom at midnight? I need help, so I can't sleep alone," Oscar explained.

Hannah wondered if he truly needed assistance or something more.

"Don't worry," Oscar said, seemingly sensing her concern. "I'm covered in bandages. I won't touch you."

โ€˜Now you realize youโ€™re disabled, huh?โ€™ Hannah thought wryly.

"Besidesโ€ฆ" Oscar paused, looking at her again. She felt a palpable danger, even with him heavily bandaged.

"I'll wait for you to take the initiative."

"Impossible," Hannah stated firmly, knowing she wouldn't undress in front of him, let alone engage in intimacy. The fear of sex still haunted her. Even in her past life, despite deep love, she hadn't found it pleasurable, recalling her distasteful experience with Charles. She had vowed to avoid anything related to sex.

"We'll see," Oscar said confidently.
