Chapter 158: Under Her Leadership
Hannahโs powerful, resolute voice filled the meeting room. โThis is my preliminary plan for the Light Building project. Share any ideas you have. They don't need to be fully formed proposals; just speak whatever comes to mind to inspire others.โ
A hush fell over the room. No one seemed to offer a better solution. Previous attempts to complete the project had failed, leaving the Light Building unfinished. Upper management had abandoned it, seemingly resigned to the significant loss.
Then, Wang, a project member, spoke. โMs. Hannah, I don't have a proposal, but I have some questions about your plan.โ
โGo ahead,โ Hannah replied.
โFirst, you mentioned advertising the building. I agree! Initially, upper management was confident we could secure market support due to our reputation, but that clearly didn't work. I support publicity stunts. However, I disagree with your second point: convincing luxury brands to open stores. Frankly, it seems unrealistic. Attracting investors was easier at the outset, but now, regaining their trust, especially from high-end brands, is nearly impossible. You suggested rent reductions or a valuation adjustment mechanism (VAM). While advantageous to us, investors still face significant additional costsโdecoration, inventory, salaries, taxes, utilities, shippingโa substantial sum. It's difficult to persuade businesses without a clear, positive outlook.โ He paused. โAnd your third point, the large-scale e-commerce market, I don't understand.โ
โLet me address that first,โ Hannah said, turning to Wang. โA large-scale e-commerce market means an online sales platform. Weโll develop a dedicated app, use internet celebrities for live commerce, and offer home delivery.โ
โSo, internet marketing?โ Wang asked, confused. โBut this is supposed to be a high-end mall. Wouldn't that seemโฆcheap? And what are โinternet celebritiesโ?โ
Hannah realized then that the term wasn't yet common. โInternet celebrities are popular online stars who sell goods,โ she explained.
โLike celebrity endorsements?โ Wang persisted.
โMore than that,โ Hannah said. โEssentially, these stars will sell goods through live commerce.โ
โWill they agree?โ
โIโll make them,โ Hannah stated firmly. She was certain; live commerce would be hugely successful in the future. She simply needed to apply future marketing strategies.
Hannahโs idea had come to her suddenly, a benefit of her extra ten years of experience.
Despite Hannah's explanation, Wang remained doubtful. Hannah, too, found it difficult to fully articulate her vision, but decided to forge ahead. โRegarding your second concern, youโre right; investors need a clear return. But profit isnโt the only incentive. Connections matter. Cooper Group has years of experience and strategic partnerships. Many companies have thrived with our help. I doubt theyโll all refuse. We need to commit and negotiate with each company individually.โ
โI understand,โ Wang said humbly.
โAny other questions?โ Hannah asked the others.
Silence. As Hannah said, they wouldn't know unless they tried.
โThen letโs assign tasks,โ Hannah stated. โWe have three areas. Mila, youโll work with Advertising and Media to promote the mall. The Light Building must be featured on satellite television, in major app banners (at least three seconds), and on city LED screens. Secure an A-list celebrity spokesperson. And create pre-opening publicity stunts. Iโll cut the ribbon again.โ
โYes, Ms. Hannah,โ Mila replied.
โMann, youโre responsible for securing three to five luxury brands. Iโll review your choices before you finalize any decisions. Iโll join you in negotiations. Also, develop a comprehensive business partnership plan and profit projections.โ
โUnderstood,โ Mann responded.
โWang,โ Hannah continued, โyouโll create the online shopping platform. Iโll provide the plan today. Just follow it, and come to me with any questions.โ
โYes, Ms. Hannah.โ
โTeam leaders, delegate tasks. Submit your team assignments and daily progress reports before leaving work,โ Hannah instructed.
โYes, Ms. Hannah,โ the team chorused respectfully.
โIt needs to be operational in two weeks!โ Hannah consulted her phone. โThe 28th is tentatively scheduled for the ribbon-cutting. Ensure everything is completed and approved by then.โ
โYes,โ the team agreed.
โMeeting adjourned,โ Hannah declared, rising abruptly.
No one dared question her. They watched her leave, awestruck by the boldness and competence of this 22-year-old graduate, believing her to be a seasoned executive, certain that they would succeed under her leadership.
