Chapter 198: She Kept Her Virginity
The man had been dragged away. Oscar, carrying Hannah, walked toward the warehouse gate, never glancing at Janet. He showed no surprise, as if expecting her involvement, yet he didn't retaliate cruelly. Janet's earlier assertion—that Oscar wouldn't kill her—seemed proven.
Hannah clung to Oscar's neck, unconcerned with the details of his past with Janet. Their relationship was their own; she wouldn't interfere. She was simply grateful for his rescue and didn't want to tempt fate, or worse, incite further violence.
Suddenly, Oscar paused. Janet's scream echoed from behind: "Oscar, are you really doing this to me for Hannah?"
Hannah was stunned. Looking back, she saw dozens of men approaching. The scene was horrifying. She anticipated Janet's fate; gang rape seemed a far worse torment than death.
"Oscar, why not just kill me?" Janet pleaded, her bloody eyes fixed on Oscar's tall form cradling Hannah with tenderness. She'd envisioned him dedicating his life to his mission, but never imagined such devotion to another woman. Did she still delude herself about Oscar's lack of love for Hannah?
Sobbing, she cried, "Kill me! Let me die, so you won't hurt me again! I can't bear your indifference! You've broken my heart!"
Oscar remained impassive, his expression unchanging. Hannah, too, saw no shift in his demeanor, noting his chilling composure. She wondered what kind of man he truly was.
"Do you think I targeted Hannah only to kill her?" Janet raged. "I'm dying to kill her because she's special to you! I can't accept it! I can't stand seeing you with another woman! I've had enough of your indifference! Kill me! At least, I'll die by your hand, and for a moment, you'll remember me, a woman who loved you with her life!"
"No, I won't," Oscar replied, his voice calm and cold, a stark contrast to Janet's emotional outburst. His face remained emotionless. He uttered each word coldly: "If I kill you, I'll feel nothing, just as with the others. I wouldn't even think of you…"
"Then kill me!" Janet screamed.
"Because of Thomas," Oscar said.
This revelation might frustrate Janet, suggesting her actions weren't due to Oscar's compassion, but his commitment to another.
She laughed ironically. "Oscar, did you ever love me? Even…"
"Not at all," Oscar interrupted.
"Then why did you sleep with me? Why did you get me pregnant?" Janet demanded.
"It wasn't me. I never slept with you," he stated.
Janet was stunned, speechless. It had to be Oscar! She remembered being drugged. But Oscar was strong-willed; no one could compel him. Love potions held no sway; he would never touch a woman he didn't want. He must have slept with her out of love.
Her certainty crumbled; her spirit sank.
"Are you done talking?" Oscar's voice was icy.
Janet wept silently. Her self-deception, her pride, her belief in her unique position with Oscar—all shattered. She laughed and cried, then laughed again.
"Oscar, you're cruel and ruthless! Aren't you afraid of hell?" she asked, wondering about retribution.
"It's none of your business," he replied coldly.
His words were devastating. Janet watched him leave, carrying Hannah, indifferent and uncaring.
"Oscar," she yelled, "A man like you will be abandoned by women sooner or later! Someday, you'll be dumped, just as you dumped me!"
Oscar paused, and Hannah saw him swallow, a sign of hidden emotion.
"Oscar, Hannah doesn't love you!" Janet screamed. Hannah felt a pang of worry.
"To survive, Hannah would sleep with anyone! Do you think I'm afraid to kill her? No! She fought to stay alive, even offering herself to others to prove she doesn't love you!" Janet continued, her voice laced with scorn. "What do you see in her? She wouldn't even keep her virginity for you! Isn't that pathetic?"
Oscar blinked. Hannah clung tighter to his neck, biting her lip. She couldn't explain her desperate attempt to save her life—an attempt that ultimately preserved her virginity.
