Chapter 214 No Goodbye Kiss?
Hannah changed the subject. "Here are your pajamas. Be quick; I need to shower after you."
Susan raised an eyebrow. "Why don't you shower in your own room?"
"I'm sleeping with you tonight."
"Aren't you worried about ruining your relationship with Oscar?"
Hannah smiled. "Of course not."
Soon, they both finished showering. It had been a long time since they'd shared a bed. Their friendship had always been close; before Hannah's marriage, they often slept together. However, since then, she felt she spent less time with Susan. Looking back on her previous life, and her marriage to Charles, she still felt a surge of anger.
Susan buried her head in Hannah's arms. Hannah was used to this intimacy, a habit from their childhood. Susan often said she felt like she was with her mother when Hannah was near.
Susan asked, "Do you think Manuel is actually not so bad?" She found his sudden change hard to believe. "Maybe his craziness is sadness. He'll probably drop his marriage proposal in a few days."
Hannah remained silent, but she believed Susan was destined to marry Manuel.
"Time to sleep. We can talk tomorrow."
Susan felt distraught. "I can't sleep. I can't stop thinking about Manuel."
"Alright, but I need to sleep."
"Hey!"
"Just do what Manuel wants," Hannah suggested.
Susan turned away. "Fine, you better go to sleep."
Hannah smiled, watching Susan's silhouette against the moonlight. In her past life, sheโd only been able to watch Susan suffer. This time, she vowed it wouldn't happen again.
The next morning, Hannah silenced the alarm and carefully got out of bed. Susan was still asleep; it had taken them both several hours to fall asleep, finally drifting off around dawn. Hannah quietly left the bedroom, knowing Susan needed rest after last night. Oscar was still asleep when she entered his room. She washed up, dressed formally, and applied light makeup.
As she was leaving, Oscar said, "I thought you'd give me a goodbye kiss."
Hannah was startled. He should have been asleep.
She turned to him. "I had trouble sleeping because you were alone in bed. Don't you feel sorryโฆ"
Hannah silenced him with a kiss, then fled.
Watching her go, he licked his lips. Hannah returned for her handbag, noticing the desire in his eyes. What a dissolute guy! she thought, her face flushing crimson. She grabbed her bag and rushed out, her heart racing until she reached downstairs.
Max looked surprised. "Ms. Wells, you got home late last night. Why are you up so early?"
"I have business at the office," Hannah replied, her voice tired. "My friend is here; she sleeps late and won't wake until noon. Don't wake her; she'll get up when she's ready. I'll be back after work. Tell her to wait for me. Oh, and she loves strongly flavored food, especially from Heroic Restaurant. Get some for her lunch."
"Okay," Max replied respectfully.
After breakfast, Hannah had Jimmy drive her to the office. It was Light Building's second day of business, and she had much to do.
Rose followed her into the office. "Ms. Hannah, here's yesterday's data on Light Building."
Hannah took the files. Rose continued, "Yesterday's visitor count reached 18,000, with 3% making purchases. Total sales reached 8.2 million, exceeding all previous figures."
Hannah read the report. "What's the turnover since Little Bunny started live-streaming?"
"Only 200,000."
"That's good, considering the average for live-streaming commerce," Hannah said.
"Yes," Rose agreed. "It's the best daily performance in Northfield, even better than Sawyer Group's e-commerce platform. Our turnover made headlines today."
Hannah put away the files. "Tell sales to prepare for a meeting in half an hour. We'll finalize the next plan."
"Yes, Ms. Hannah." Rose left.
Hannah began planning on her laptop when her phone rangโChairman Miguel.
"Come to the conference room."
Hannah frowned.
Miguel sounded cheerful. "Don't worry, it's good news."
"Okay."
She expected praise; performance mattered. Before leaving, she went to Mary's office.
"Mary."
Startled, Mary looked guilty, having been distracted by her phone.
Hannah didn't notice. "Let's go to the conference room."
Mary, surprised, recovered quickly. "Okay."
She followed Hannah, without asking why. Hannah wouldn't tell her she was likely facing Roger Cooper's displeasure about Mary's performance. He'd be furious.
