โ€œI will not apologize to Hannah!โ€ Martina screamed in the living room.

โ€œIโ€™m serious,โ€ Charles replied, unwilling to hear Martinaโ€™s explanation.

โ€œHannah beat me up, and you want me to apologize? She should apologize!โ€

โ€œShe didnโ€™t, and youโ€™re making things up,โ€ Charles said.

โ€œShe did! Why didnโ€™t you believe me? Susan and Hannah attacked me!โ€ Martina panicked.

โ€œHannah was polite and gentle. She wouldnโ€™t have attacked you.โ€

โ€œShe did! She did!โ€ Martinaโ€™s voice rose, escalating the scene in the living room. She couldnโ€™t believe Charles didnโ€™t believe her.

โ€œIโ€™m sick of your screams. Apologize to Hannah tomorrow.โ€

โ€œNo!โ€

โ€œMartina, do you want to bankrupt our family?โ€

โ€œWe probably should!โ€ Martina retorted capriciously.

Loretta learned of the situation and threatened Martina, โ€œStop acting like a brat, or Iโ€™ll be angry with you too.โ€

โ€œMother, why didnโ€™t you believe me either?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t care if what you said is true. Apologize to Hannah tomorrow.โ€

โ€œMother!โ€ Martina cried, upset.

โ€œIt doesnโ€™t matter if Hannah attacked you. Our familyโ€™s priority is your brotherโ€™s marriage to Hannah. You must appease her; you offended her. Do what you want after the wedding. Until then, put on a mask around her.โ€

Martina felt aggrieved and continued crying.

โ€œMartina, youโ€™re not a child. Set your priorities straight. Donโ€™t worry; even if you apologize to Hannah tomorrow, Iโ€™ll help you get even with her.โ€

Martina ignored Loretta, sobbing uncontrollably.

โ€œItโ€™s Michelleโ€™s 50th birthday tomorrow. Iโ€™ll shame her,โ€ Loretta consoled Martina. โ€œHer daughter bullied you, and Iโ€™ll make her pay.โ€

Martina wiped her tears. โ€œHow?โ€

โ€œMichelleโ€™s always had dreadful taste. Iโ€™ll wear my best dress tomorrow and steal the spotlight. Weโ€™re future in-laws, constantly compared. When people talk, Michelle will be ashamed. I wonder what gives her the nerve to have a 50th birthday party.โ€ Lorettaโ€™s disgust was palpable.

The upper-class societyโ€™s male chauvinism was evident. Loretta envied Michelle's ability to host a 50th birthday celebration. She always held a superior position among the wealthy wives, boasting a loving husband, a capable son, and an obedient daughter; all the other wives fawned over her. This inflated her sense of self-importance. Yet, she'd never thrown her own grand birthday party. Michelle, previously insignificant in their circle, had thrown a lavish party, which infuriated Loretta. Tomorrow, Loretta would show Michelle the folly of such ostentation.

The next afternoon, the Cooper manor's living room bustled with activity. Michelle was surprised; she knew nothing of the party. The event crew's preparations further confused her.

โ€œWeโ€™re celebrating your birthday with Father, right? So I planned a surprise for both of you,โ€ Hannah explained.

โ€œSilly child. We have birthdays every year. No need for surprises. Donโ€™t startle your father.โ€

โ€œHe wonโ€™t be,โ€ Hannah said, unhappy. โ€œNow, go get a facial, makeup, and change.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re so mischievous.โ€

โ€œHurry,โ€ Hannah urged, pushing her mother toward the event crew.

โ€œArenโ€™t you coming?โ€ Michelle asked. Hannah usually accompanied Michelle during at-home beauty treatments.

โ€œI donโ€™t need it. Iโ€™m naturally beautiful,โ€ Hannah joked.

Michelle laughed. โ€œYouโ€™re shameless.โ€

โ€œGo. Iโ€™ll catch up and get ready with you.โ€

โ€œAlright,โ€ Michelle conceded, unable to withstand her daughterโ€™s persistence. She left with the crew.

Once Michelle was gone, Hannah quickly briefed the decorators on Michelle's imminent arrival and called her father to prepare. It was a busy afternoon.

After ensuring everything proceeded as planned, Hannah entered her motherโ€™s room. Michelle had just finished her facial. Her cheeks were smooth and supple, like a young girlโ€™s skin.

โ€œMother, how do you maintain your skin? Itโ€™s perfect,โ€ Hannah praised.

โ€œYouโ€™re right. She has the nicest skin for her age,โ€ the beautician agreed. โ€œIโ€™d guess sheโ€™s in her thirties if I didnโ€™t know better.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re just being nice,โ€ Michelle blushed.

โ€œItโ€™s true. You have perfect skin and a great figure. You look like a young girl from behind.โ€

โ€œOh, stop it. Iโ€™m not that great,โ€ Michelleโ€™s face flushed.

Hannah found her mother adorable. Her father was lucky to have her.

โ€œIs she changing into her gown?โ€ Hannah asked a crew member.

โ€œYes, weโ€™re doing it now.โ€

The crew produced a long black gown studded with diamonds, sparkling like stars. It was breathtaking.

โ€œIsnโ€™t it flashy?โ€ Michelle exclaimed, surprised.

โ€œIt should be. Youโ€™ll charm Father speechless.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™re an old couple. No need for this,โ€ Michelle protested. โ€œSomething simpler. Donโ€™t scare him.โ€

โ€œI designed it,โ€ Hannah revealed.

This touched Michelle. She knew Hannah had been a gifted designer since childhood, but the Coopers kept it private. Seeing Hannahโ€™s disappointment, Michelle couldnโ€™t refuse.

โ€œMother, will you wear it?โ€ Hannah pleaded.

Michelle smiled, resigned. โ€œOf course. Itโ€™s my daughterโ€™s design.โ€

Michelle went into the dressing room. When she emerged, Hannah was astonished by her motherโ€™s beauty. Michelle's mature charm, elegance, and grace were captivating.
