"I didn't do anything! How can you arrest me?" Wayne shouted, enraged. He protested vehemently, convinced of his innocence.
A police officer stated flatly, "You've caused the release of business secrets; you're under investigation."
"What business secrets? When did I...?" Wayne trailed off, a sudden realization dawning. He recalled giving Cooper Group's plans to Charles, a chilling thought that stripped him of his bravado.
"What's happening?" Miguel rose, approaching them. As chairman and Wayne's uncle, he couldn't ignore the situation.
Supervisory department employees reported, "We received a report from one of your employees that Wayne released company trade secrets. We have sufficient evidence to detain him."
"One of our employees?" Miguel was surprised. He knew nothing of the accusation or the informant.
Hannah stepped forward calmly. "It was me. I reported it."
"Why?" Wayne demanded, panic rising. "You hate me! You want me out! Just tell me to leave; I'll go!"
He attempted to leave, but officers blocked his exit. His panic was palpable.
"Wayne, do you deny your actions?" Hannah asked slowly.
"I did nothing! You're framing me! Hannah, how could you? I'm your cousin!"
Hannah ignored his accusations, addressing the officers. "Ten minutes to clear this up, or I can't clear my name."
They agreed. "Okay."
Hannah mounted the stage, plugging a USB into the computer. A video appeared, clearly showing Wayne breaking into Rose's office safe and taking a USB drive.
The room erupted. Wayne's face paled; he hadn't known about the hidden camera beneath the desk, overlooked during his disabling of other security systems. He was speechless, unable to refute the evidence.
Stunned silence followed, replaced by murmurs of disbelief and speculation. Was he trying to frame Hannah? His actions seemed malicious, a blatant disregard for the company's interests. The revelation was a shocking blow to Simon.
Hannah addressed the group. "Regarding Sawyer Group's plan, the supervisory department obtained it legitimately. Their plan is strikingly similar to ours; although subtle, investigation revealed plagiarism. The $9.9 billion bid wasn't coincidental. I also have records of his dealings with Sawyer Group representatives, but due to time constraints, I won't show that video now."
Hannah efficiently unplugged the USB, approaching the officers. "Thank you for your assistance."
Wayne was escorted from the room. His euphoria had vanished, replaced by the stark reality of arrest. Hannah had retaliated decisively. Imprisonment loomed, threatening his future.
He struggled, shouting, "Don't take me! Uncle Miguel, help me!"
Miguel watched silently, his face grim. He never imagined Wayne capable of such betrayal. Even Roger, his father, wouldn't have been so reckless.
"What an idiot," Miguel muttered.
The room fell silent, the awkwardness palpable. Their earlier accusations against Hannah now stung Simon with embarrassment.
Hannah ignored him, addressing the group. "I received this video today; Rose found it reviewing surveillance footage. I reported Wayne not for personal reasons, but because he's my cousin. He won't change, and if unpunished, he'll never learn. This isn't just a family matter, it affects all our employees. Ignoring it would be irresponsible. Dad, please don't criticize my actions."
Miguel looked at his daughter with admiration. She had taken responsibility, disproving accusations of favoritism while justifying her actions. Cooper Group showed no favoritism; family members faced consequences like anyone else. Her actions served as a warning.
Miguel marveled at his daughter's resourcefulness, maturity, and foresight. The unexpected turn of events left him, surprisingly, pleased with the outcome.
