Listen to this chapter:

โ€œYouโ€™re quite smart in some ways,โ€ the man praised him, โ€œbut you have to realize that, once Wayne was convicted, you couldnโ€™t use that plan. Northfield law allows them to withdraw it and forbid you from using it.โ€

Charles gritted his teeth. It all happened so fast; he hadnโ€™t thought that far ahead.

โ€œAnyway, make a plan,โ€ the man said coldly. โ€œThe reason I havenโ€™t abandoned you is that your family still has considerable assets. If your family fell, I wouldnโ€™t continue to support you.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll fix it.โ€

โ€œCharles, donโ€™t let me down.โ€

The man hung up.

Charles pulled over to the side of the road. He called his father.

โ€œDad.โ€

โ€œCharles, where have you been? I canโ€™t hold them off any longer,โ€ Lee said worriedly. โ€œThe inspectors have come to take Sandra in for questioning. If you donโ€™t get here, sheโ€™ll be gone.โ€

โ€œLet them take her,โ€ Charles said bluntly.

โ€œI thought you wanted to see her alone? Why the change? Donโ€™t you worry aboutโ€ฆโ€

โ€œDad, to get promoted, she illegally colluded with Wayne to steal Cooperโ€™s marketing plan. She doesnโ€™t deserve our sympathy; she should face justice. We shouldnโ€™t interfere,โ€ Charles said seriously.

Lee immediately understood.

โ€œWell, Iโ€™ll let it go,โ€ he said.

Charles nodded. โ€œI wonโ€™t be there. I have a lot of work at the office. Regarding the South Bay New Town construction, Iโ€™ll speak to the bureau head myself. Iโ€™ll let you know the outcome.โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€ Lee fully trusted his son.

Charles hung up, slammed on the brakes, and turned the car around. All that mattered now was securing the South Bay New Town project. He floored the accelerator and sped down the street.

He was frantic.

Hannah received a call from Theodore.

โ€œCharles was heading to his company, but he turned back,โ€ he said.

Hannahโ€™s interest piqued.

โ€œTheyโ€™ve arrested Sandra. It seems Charles isnโ€™t going to kill her,โ€ Theodore added.

Hannah was slightly surprised.

Was Charles confident, or had he suddenly become clever? When Theodore had told her earlier that Charles was going to the Sawyer Group, sheโ€™d known he was planning something. But why the change of heart? Had someone warned him? People like Charles, especially in a crisis, werenโ€™t usually so thoughtful.

So, who the hell was the man behind him?

โ€œWhat now? Do we still need to follow him?โ€ Theodore asked.

โ€œNo,โ€ said Hannah.

With Sandra arrested, he couldnโ€™t hurt her publicly. Apparently, he hadnโ€™t intended to kill her. There was no point in following him.

โ€œI guess he got lucky this time,โ€ Theodore sighed. Heโ€™d thought heโ€™d finally gotten rid of Charles. Oscar had said it wouldnโ€™t be easy, and he was right.

โ€œIt doesnโ€™t matter. We still have time,โ€ Hannah continued. โ€œBesides, Iโ€™ll let him know heโ€™s shooting himself in the foot.โ€

โ€œWhat are you going to do?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ll see.โ€

โ€œSeriously?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t want to give you false hope, so Iโ€™m not telling you yet.โ€

Theodore conceded. โ€œThen Iโ€™m going to call it a night.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ve had a long day. Get some rest. Thank you.โ€

โ€œNever mind.โ€ He hung up.

Hannah was quiet for a moment. She took a deep breath and called Rose. โ€œRose, come in.โ€

โ€œYes.โ€

Rose knocked and entered.

โ€œMs. Hannah, what can I do for you?โ€

Rose felt awestruck by Hannahโ€™s radiant presence.

Hannah said, โ€œContact the bureau. Weโ€™re going to talk about the South Bay New Town project.โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€ Rose nodded.

โ€œWeโ€™re going now,โ€ Hannah added.

โ€œNow? Isnโ€™t that a little rushed?โ€ Rose asked.

โ€œNo, we need to be there now,โ€ Hannah said firmly.

โ€œIs there anything I should prepare?โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ Hannah said, stretching. โ€œWe just need to show up and talk to them.โ€

โ€œI see.โ€ Rose nodded, strangely excited at the prospect of Hannah reclaiming the project.

Rose quickly contacted the bureau and reported back. โ€œThe bureau head is in the office. We can go anytime.โ€

โ€œThen letโ€™s go now.โ€

Hannah and Rose left the company, with Jimmy driving them.

Upon arrival, Hannah walked into the office and saw Charles. Heโ€™d arrived sooner than sheโ€™d expected. Roseโ€™s face fell; she hadnโ€™t anticipated having to negotiate with him present.

Then she saw Hannah smile. It seemed sheโ€™d anticipated this.

Was this part of her plan?

โ€œGood to see you, Mr. Gordon,โ€ Hannah said warmly, shaking his hand.

Gordon was affable and invited them to sit. Hannah sat opposite him, next to Charles.

โ€œI received your call about the South Bay New Town project. Coincidentally, Charles is here about the same matter. I wonโ€™t favor anyone, so weโ€™ll discuss it together,โ€ Gordon said.

โ€œOf course,โ€ Hannah replied calmly.

Charles glared at Hannah with intense hatred, though he could only manage a civil expression. โ€œYouโ€™re still so understanding.โ€

Hannah turned to him, sensing his anger. โ€œAnyway, South Bay New Town is also connected to the Sawyer Group. Initially, I planned to speak with Gordon alone, then Charles. Since you think itโ€™s better to talk together, Iโ€™m happy to agree.โ€

Charlesโ€™ face shifted subtly.

What did she mean?

He felt sheโ€™d orchestrated everything.

What was she planning now?
