โYouโre quite smart in some ways,โ the man praised him, โbut you have to realize that, once Wayne was convicted, you couldnโt use that plan. Northfield law allows them to withdraw it and forbid you from using it.โ
Charles gritted his teeth. It all happened so fast; he hadnโt thought that far ahead.
โAnyway, make a plan,โ the man said coldly. โThe reason I havenโt abandoned you is that your family still has considerable assets. If your family fell, I wouldnโt continue to support you.โ
โIโll fix it.โ
โCharles, donโt let me down.โ
The man hung up.
Charles pulled over to the side of the road. He called his father.
โDad.โ
โCharles, where have you been? I canโt hold them off any longer,โ Lee said worriedly. โThe inspectors have come to take Sandra in for questioning. If you donโt get here, sheโll be gone.โ
โLet them take her,โ Charles said bluntly.
โI thought you wanted to see her alone? Why the change? Donโt you worry aboutโฆโ
โDad, to get promoted, she illegally colluded with Wayne to steal Cooperโs marketing plan. She doesnโt deserve our sympathy; she should face justice. We shouldnโt interfere,โ Charles said seriously.
Lee immediately understood.
โWell, Iโll let it go,โ he said.
Charles nodded. โI wonโt be there. I have a lot of work at the office. Regarding the South Bay New Town construction, Iโll speak to the bureau head myself. Iโll let you know the outcome.โ
โOkay.โ Lee fully trusted his son.
Charles hung up, slammed on the brakes, and turned the car around. All that mattered now was securing the South Bay New Town project. He floored the accelerator and sped down the street.
He was frantic.
Hannah received a call from Theodore.
โCharles was heading to his company, but he turned back,โ he said.
Hannahโs interest piqued.
โTheyโve arrested Sandra. It seems Charles isnโt going to kill her,โ Theodore added.
Hannah was slightly surprised.
Was Charles confident, or had he suddenly become clever? When Theodore had told her earlier that Charles was going to the Sawyer Group, sheโd known he was planning something. But why the change of heart? Had someone warned him? People like Charles, especially in a crisis, werenโt usually so thoughtful.
So, who the hell was the man behind him?
โWhat now? Do we still need to follow him?โ Theodore asked.
โNo,โ said Hannah.
With Sandra arrested, he couldnโt hurt her publicly. Apparently, he hadnโt intended to kill her. There was no point in following him.
โI guess he got lucky this time,โ Theodore sighed. Heโd thought heโd finally gotten rid of Charles. Oscar had said it wouldnโt be easy, and he was right.
โIt doesnโt matter. We still have time,โ Hannah continued. โBesides, Iโll let him know heโs shooting himself in the foot.โ
โWhat are you going to do?โ
โYouโll see.โ
โSeriously?โ
โI donโt want to give you false hope, so Iโm not telling you yet.โ
Theodore conceded. โThen Iโm going to call it a night.โ
โYouโve had a long day. Get some rest. Thank you.โ
โNever mind.โ He hung up.
Hannah was quiet for a moment. She took a deep breath and called Rose. โRose, come in.โ
โYes.โ
Rose knocked and entered.
โMs. Hannah, what can I do for you?โ
Rose felt awestruck by Hannahโs radiant presence.
Hannah said, โContact the bureau. Weโre going to talk about the South Bay New Town project.โ
โOkay.โ Rose nodded.
โWeโre going now,โ Hannah added.
โNow? Isnโt that a little rushed?โ Rose asked.
โNo, we need to be there now,โ Hannah said firmly.
โIs there anything I should prepare?โ
โNo,โ Hannah said, stretching. โWe just need to show up and talk to them.โ
โI see.โ Rose nodded, strangely excited at the prospect of Hannah reclaiming the project.
Rose quickly contacted the bureau and reported back. โThe bureau head is in the office. We can go anytime.โ
โThen letโs go now.โ
Hannah and Rose left the company, with Jimmy driving them.
Upon arrival, Hannah walked into the office and saw Charles. Heโd arrived sooner than sheโd expected. Roseโs face fell; she hadnโt anticipated having to negotiate with him present.
Then she saw Hannah smile. It seemed sheโd anticipated this.
Was this part of her plan?
โGood to see you, Mr. Gordon,โ Hannah said warmly, shaking his hand.
Gordon was affable and invited them to sit. Hannah sat opposite him, next to Charles.
โI received your call about the South Bay New Town project. Coincidentally, Charles is here about the same matter. I wonโt favor anyone, so weโll discuss it together,โ Gordon said.
โOf course,โ Hannah replied calmly.
Charles glared at Hannah with intense hatred, though he could only manage a civil expression. โYouโre still so understanding.โ
Hannah turned to him, sensing his anger. โAnyway, South Bay New Town is also connected to the Sawyer Group. Initially, I planned to speak with Gordon alone, then Charles. Since you think itโs better to talk together, Iโm happy to agree.โ
Charlesโ face shifted subtly.
What did she mean?
He felt sheโd orchestrated everything.
What was she planning now?
