Chapter 412: Manuel Is Recovering from His Leg Injury

Susan entered the room and found Tia, but Justine and Manuel were absent. She walked in carelessly.

Tia approached her immediately. "Mrs. Johnson, you're back! Did you return on your own? How are you feeling? Is everything alright?"

"I'm fine," Susan replied indifferently. "Where are the others?"

"You mean Mr. Johnson and Ms. Knight?"

"Just answer me! Why so many questions?" Susan's impatience was evident.

Tia had expected Susan to be heartbroken after the miscarriage, but she remained sharp-tongued.

"Ms. Knight has left."

Susan smiled coldly. Of course Justine wouldn't stay now. "That's her," she thought.

"Mr. Johnson went to the hospital early this morning. He's undergoing rehabilitation therapy," Tia explained. "Mrs. Johnson, I'll call him if you wish to see him."

"No need. I feel better without them."

Tia could only nod.

"I'm going to nap. Leave me alone."

"Okay, Mrs. Johnson. I made chicken soup for you. Ms. Knight urged me to take good care of you after your miscarriage. Rest is crucial; otherwise, it will harm your health. Please take care this month."

"Stop nagging! I know," Susan snapped, entering the room and slamming the door.

Tia bit back a reminder about the door.

Susan lay on the bed. The morning sickness, and the baby, were gone, as if they'd never been there. She unconsciously touched her abdomen, wondering when the baby bump would disappear. The lingering pain remained.

Eyes red with tears, she told herself not to feel bad, as she hadn't expected the baby. Yet, she still felt sad when alone. She fell asleep in a daze, unsure how long her grief would last.

In the hospital, Manuel underwent grueling rehabilitation therapy. The doctors repeatedly used electric shock to test nerve response in his legs. He also practiced walking, falling each time.

After therapy, Manuel was pale and sweaty. He wouldn't leave until he'd rested in the restroom. He came alone, not wanting to burden others or make Susan feel guilty.

Leaning against the sofa, breathing heavily, he calmed down. His doctor arrived, offering water. "Looks good," the doctor commented.

"Thank you," Manuel replied.

"You're doing much better than expected. I anticipated a year for your right leg, and the left was uncertain. But your right leg has fully recovered, and you've felt sensation in your left leg since yesterday. You could walk a few steps in two to three months without assistance, and a full recovery within six months seems likely."

Manuel's progress was exceptional, a remarkable case for the doctor.

But Manuel remained calm and unexcited. The doctor, knowing his quiet nature, simply patted his shoulder. "Keep up the good work!"

Manuel nodded. The doctor left.

Manuel saw Henry, in a wheelchair, being pushed by a nurse. They exchanged glances, Manuel looking away first.

"You've made significant progress," Henry stated, having overheard the conversation.

"What's your point?" Manuel asked.

"Susan only married you because of your disability. Now your legs are recovering; isn't the marriage over?" Henry sneered.

"It's our business. What does it concern you?" Manuel retorted coldly.

"Susan loves me!" Henry declared. "What do you think?"

"Do you have the guts to marry Susan if I divorce her?" Manuel asked indifferently.

Henry's face fell.

"Then why bother? Or, Mr. Parker, do you think no one deserves Susan if you can't have her?" Manuel said ironically.

"Manuel, give up. Susan won't fall for you; you'll only make her hate you more. Your legs will recover in six months; she'll divorce you then. Don't invite insult!" Henry sneered, leaving with the nurse.

He'd come for his own rehabilitation, overhearing Manuel and the doctor. He believed Susan would end the marriage once she learned of Manuel's recovery.

Henry left with a malicious smile. Manuel watched him go, acknowledging Henry's accuracy about his self-inflicted insults.

Henry returned to his ward, called Susan, who was asleep.

"Hi, Henry," she mumbled, answering the phone.

"Susan, are you sleeping?"

"Yeah. What's up?" she struggled to stay awake.

"Nothing much. I saw Manuel during my consultation." Henry said honestly.

"Oh. Okay," Susan replied calmly, feigning indifference.

"Do you know how his legs are recovering?" Henry asked.
