Chapter 420: Lovey-Dovey

Oscar silently watched Hannah and offered her chicken broth. Hannah opened her mouth, her mood sour. She wasn't convinced by the notion that love guaranteed beautiful babies; instead, she sensed Oscar's desire for a child and found it hard to refuse his requests.

They finished breakfast, their unspoken agreement regarding children hanging in the air. Hannah wouldn't explicitly consent, preferring to let nature take its course.

Afterward, Oscar drove her to the office. They left later than usual, but Jimmy's quick driving ensured a timely arrival. Hannah's mood lingered, yet she couldn't bear to part with Oscar.

As she opened the car door, Oscar was already out.

"I'll try to leave on time," Hannah said.

"Be sure you do. I'll pick you up."

"Don't be romantic. I don't want to be seen."

"Are you shy?"

"I'm a leader. I should look the part," Hannah said seriously.

Oscar affectionately touched her head. "Okay. I'll save the romance for bed."

"Oscar!" Hannah blushed.

"Okay, love. Go to work," Oscar said, continuing to caress her hair.

Hannah pouted, turning to leave.

"Jimmy will drive me today," Oscar called after her.

Hannah walked away, avoiding a backward glance that might break her heart, while Oscar watched until she disappeared from view.

It was rush hour. Employees streamed into the office, some noticing Oscar and Hannah's earlier display of affection and whispering amongst themselves.

"I read that Ms. Hannah and Mr. Wells are deeply in love. They're a truly loving couple. Mr. Wells drove her to work this morning and touched her hair so sweetly. Gosh, that was sweet."

"And I saw Mr. Wells waiting for Ms. Hannah last night. She's a workaholic; she doesn't leave until eight or nine. He waited until almost nine, even bringing roses and lanterns! So romantic!"

"Birds of a feather. Mr. Wells is handsome, ambitious, thoughtful, and romantic. Only Ms. Hannah is worthy of him."

"Ordinary people like us can only watch them show off their love."

The employees gossiped and passed. Mary listened, then saw Oscar leave in the car.

She had once considered Charles the perfect manโ€”smart and wealthy. She'd been intensely jealous of Hannah's relationship with him, sharing Jane's resentment at seeing such an outstanding man with Hannah. So, she'd manipulated Jane into seducing Charles, figuring his intelligence would prevent any real involvement. This would eliminate Jane and simultaneously test Charles's character. If Jane succeeded, so could she, allowing her to pursue him after Jane was gone.

But she'd misjudged Charles. He was renowned, yet less capable than advertised. He'd been repeatedly outmaneuvered by Hannah, achieving only a superficial success, likely inflated by media attention. Her interest in him vanished, replaced by a fascination with Oscar. She wondered if Hannah possessed some uncanny luck, but it didn't matter; her past relationship with Charles had made every woman in Kensbury City envious. Now, she was determined to win Oscar's heart. Unexpectedly, Oscar's career was flourishing; soon, he'd likely surpass Charles.

A confident glint entered her eyes. While her work ethic was a weakness, she excelled at choosing men. With a sly smile, she vowed to win Oscar.

Oscar left in Jimmy's car and called Theodore. "Hey! Where are you? I'm coming over."

"I'm at the hospital," Theodore replied. "Give me an hour. Same place. I'll be there when I'm done."

"What are you doing at the hospital?"

"Oh, just someโ€ฆ stuff. I'll tell you later. Get over here and wait. You can't just spend all your time with Hannah, man! You need to see your buddy!โ€ฆ" Theodore continued for a long time.

"Okay," Oscar said.

After Theodore's lengthy explanation, he hung up.

Theodore sat in a doctor's office, impatiently interrupting the doctor's explanations. "Enough. Just tell me how long the abortion will take?"

"Half an hour."

"Hurry up. I'm in a rush," Theodore pressed.

Little Bunny glanced at Theodore. She knew he lacked sympathy, but his heartlessness still hurt. She'd been awake all night, agonizing over her decision to terminate the pregnancy.

"Preoperative exams first," the doctor stated, providing a list. "Proceed with the abortion if all is well."

"Okay," Little Bunny replied, taking the list.

As a VIP patient, a nurse attended to her. Standing to leave, she saw Theodore remain seated, pursing her lips before departing with the nurse.

Theodore waited impatiently in the restroom. Hadn't she finished the exams? Didn't the doctor mention necessary test results? Why was it taking so long? He was worried about his appointment with Oscar and, more importantly, that Little Bunny might be deceiving him.

His phone rang, the caller ID revealing his father's number; a sense of dread washed over him.
