Chapter 535: Visit in Prison (5) If I Die, You Will Marry Again
Charles approached again. "Let her go!" he snarled, as Oscar held Hannah tighter.
"I'm gonna count to three," Charles said. "You know what would happen, Oscar."
Oscar remained motionless.
Hannah panicked at Charles's threat, fearing it alluded to Oscar's past prison ordeals. She tried to push away, saying, "Let go of me! He dare notโ"
Oscar held her firmly, his arms a shackle. "Oscarโฆ Ah!" Hannah screamed as a heavy kick impacted her back. The blow landed on Oscar, causing Hannah a slight jolt, though she wasn't injured. Tears streamed down her face as she felt Charles's relentless kicks pummeling Oscar.
It was a brutal ordeal. Despite the pain, Oscar shielded Hannah, holding her close. "Let go of me, Oscar! He won't do anything to me!" she cried, fearing for his life. Overwhelmed by terror, she pleaded, "Oscar, I beg you, let me go!"
"Never," Oscar gritted.
"What shall I do if you die?"
"You'll marry again."
"Oscar!" Hannah yelled.
Oscar whispered in her ear, his lips close, but his words inaudible. However, Hannah understood; she looked up and saw him subtly indicating the surveillance cameras.
She realized their conversation was being recorded. Oscar couldn't speak loudly. Charles, engrossed in beating Oscar, remained oblivious. He vented his rage, unwittingly providing Hannah and Oscar an opportunity to communicateโa communication he would later review on the monitor.
Exhausted, Charles leaned against the wall. He was surprised by Oscar's unwavering protectionโa stark contrast to his own callous disregard for Hannah's well-being. Clenching his teeth, he seemed to realize something: he didn't love Hannah; he merely possessed her.
"Oscar, can you protect her for a lifetime? Huh?" Charles asked.
Oscar rose, bruised but standing tall. Charles frowned, surprised by Oscar's resilience. Enraged, he lunged forward, unable to tolerate Oscar's defiance.
"If I die, what are you going to tell your boss?" Oscar's calm, yet threatening, voice halted Charles's attack. Charles knew the threat was real; he'd been informed of Oscar's weakened state.
"You and Hannah are really made for each other. Both of you can find a way to live now! Huh?" Charles said.
Oscar remained impassive. "Charles, some advice: Don't retaliate before the court's final decision, or you'll be responsible for any 'accidents'!"
"How dare you threaten me!"
"Believe it or not."
Charles clenched his fists. Oscar turned to Hannah. "Go back early."
She nodded, understanding that her presence would only prolong Oscar's suffering. Eyes red, she fled.
Charles wanted to inflict further pain, but remembered Sarah was home. A late return would arouse suspicion, potentially alerting Rowan. He left immediately.
The iron gate slammed shut. Oscar stood alone, then collapsed. In the dim light, his vision faded.
Hannah raced from the detention center. The cool wind didn't register; she stood waiting for Charles.
Before leaving, Charles instructed his men: first, review the monitor recording for any conversation; second, ensure Oscar's survival; third, erase all traces of their presence, including the recordings.
He left calmly. He saw Hannah, in a sleeveless white top, at his car. In the darkness, her loneliness tempted him, but he only offered an ironic smile. Oscar's words resonated; before the trial's conclusion, any harm to Oscar would implicate Charles. Patience was better than haste. He would have Hannah eventually; and when bored, he would dispose of her cruelly.
He drove away, ignoring her. He'd succeeded in inflicting suffering, physically and mentally. Hannah had endured much to see Oscar. That was his victory.
