Listen to this chapter:

Susan finished the expensive dessert with a heavy heart. She needed it; she'd been busy since morning and hadn't eaten much at lunch. Neither Hannah nor Susan had eaten anything all day. Hannah, despite her usual dislike of sweets, also finished the dessert.

Afterwards, a worker touched up their lipstick. They left the makeup room and entered the banquet hall. The hall was grandiose, a stark contrast to the one Charles had prepared. Oscar had provided a veritable palace, filled with classic decorations. The red carpet and delicate sculptures lent the hall an air of dignity. Compared to Charles's hall, this was marvelous.

The Father had begun the wedding ceremony. Hannah's heart raced wildly, a sensation absent from her earlier wedding to Charles. This was, after all, a completely different wedding. Especially as she looked to the end of the red carpet, where Oscar, bathed in light, awaited her.

He wore a black suit, perfectly complementing Hannah's attire. As the light illuminated Oscar's face, Hannah's rapid heartbeat was audible, as were the hushed breaths of the astonished guests, carefully maintaining their composure. Elegant traditional music began to play.

Hannah walked slowly down the carpet, her father's arm in hers. The crowd was silent. Oscar's handsomeness had elicited gasps, while Hannah's beauty stole their breath. Her splendid dress made her appear lavish, prompting many to question Charles's worthiness. Hannah resembled a resurrected phoenix, a far cry from the soft, gentle woman they knew. This was the real Hannahโ€”powerful, wild, and untamed.

She stopped before Oscar. Both stood in the spotlight, their brilliance equally matched. Two perfect people, undeniably meant for each other. They stared into each other's eyes.

"Miss Cooper," Oscar said, "it's you who walked over to me."

Hannah was speechless. Was this part of his plan? Regardless, she was touched. This was her declaration to the world.

"So, don't look back anymore," Oscar said, extending his hand. His slender fingers were before Hannah. Her heart fluttered. His hand, gripping hers, felt slightly moist. Was he nervous? He seemed as nervous as she was.

A voice called out, "Mr. Wells's hand seems to be shaking." Hannah felt his tremor; it was unmistakable. She glanced at him. Oscar didn't deny it, stating frankly, "Of course I'm nervous for a big, important event like this."

Hannah thought, Did you forget about that national competition? That live broadcast was far larger than a wedding.

"This is as well," Oscar said unexpectedly.

Hannah was puzzled.

"I said this is broadcast nationally as well," Oscar clarified, seemingly reading her mind.

"Why is it broadcast?" Hannah asked, surprised.

"Because," Oscar explained, "I'm getting married. I used half my fortune; it would only be worth it to do so."

Hannah was speechless. She thought him foolish. Was he trying to show her off?

"Aren't you afraid of the consequences of a future divorce?" Hannah gritted her teeth.

"It wouldn't be," Oscar said confidently.

"Whyโ€ฆ" She was interrupted by the commencement of the ceremony.

What touched Hannah most was Oscar's bow to her parents, his promise to cherish their daughter. They, in turn, bowed to Oscar's parents; the elders beamed gratefully. Michelle's eyes were red.

She'd believed a good person must be humble and low-key. Seeing her dazzling daughter, she felt guilty for her past parenting.

They exchanged ringsโ€”a six-carat pink diamond from Oscar, a fortune in itselfโ€”highlighted by the photographer for the viewing audience. Their eyes met. "From now on," Oscar said, "you take my last name, Mrs. Wells."
