Mester only got into the passenger seat after they were both in the car. Jimmy then drove.
Only then did Hannah realize what had happened. She couldn't help but ask, "Where are we going?"
Oscar looked directly into Hannah's eyes. His lips seemed mesmerizing as he said, "It's our wedding night. It's our time."
Hannah was speechless. It was a sham marriage. She couldn't understand Oscar's thinking. It was a fake marriage; if Oscar wanted to avoid the ceremonies, so be it. She didn't like them either. The wedding had been comical and unimaginable, with so many guests.
The car was quiet. Soon, it arrived at Oscar's private mansion. Hannah was pleased; living with only Oscar, not his entire family, would reduce her stress. But she was puzzled. The villa was dark. A power failure?
The car stopped at the entrance. Mester exited and opened the door for Hannah. She had thought the car would stop at the doorstep. Her wedding dress was heavy, making walking tiring. This, she guessed, was another of Oscar's plans. But since their relationship was business-oriented, she wouldn't mind, as long as it adhered to her principles.
Mester knelt and carefully arranged the train of her dress.
"Thank you," Hannah said with a smile.
"It's my pleasure, madam," he replied.
Hannah felt odd being called "madam." She wasn't used to it. When she married Charles, everyone called her by her name; it was more casual. "Madam" felt formal and stiff. But she wasn't the real Mrs. Wells.
Hannah had much on her mind. Ultimately, she didn't correct Mester. Oscar also exited the car and walked behind her. To her surprise, he didn't offer assistance.
She walked slowly in the darkness. Suddenly, lights illuminated the ground beneath her feet. She stopped. She understood instantly: this was Oscar's surprise. She thought his surprises could make any woman fall for him.
With long strides, she walked toward the mansion, lights illuminating her path with each step. As she neared the end of the drive, fireworks bloomed in the night skyโbright and loud enough for all of Kensbury City to see! As the fireworks ended, the mansion glowed. She felt him approaching.
She turned. "Thank you for the surprise; it's beautiful," she said sincerely. She didn't know how to thank him for his efforts. Even though it was a sham wedding, she was touched by his thorough preparation. Charles, in contrast, had never surprised her.
"I will help you with your business," Hannah stated confidently.
Oscar smirked, saying nothing, and took her hand. She was used to this. He held her hand as they entered the extravagantly decorated lobby. Was Oscar incredibly wealthy, or simply accustomed to lavish spending? He didn't need to do this where others couldn't see it.
As they reached the staircase, Oscar lifted her. She instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck. He carried her steadily upstairs. Her dress train flowed beautifully behind her.
Oscar carried her to a room. If Hannah remembered correctly, it should have been black and white, but it was now pastoral. He gently placed her on a large, soft bed; she felt she could fall asleep instantly.
He didn't leave, but stared at her face, his eyes filled with emotion, holding her gaze. Her heart beat faster. This man was handsome and captivating.
