Chapter 633: Encounter with Theodore

Hannah went to the hospital, wanting to confirm her suspicions. Thanks to Oscar, she suspected a pregnancy, and anxiety gnawed at her as she sat in the car. What would happen if she were pregnant? This level of anxiety was unfamiliar. Should she call Oscar? The decision remained elusive until she reached the hospital. Taking a deep breath, she entered, deciding to keep her suspicions from Oscar for fear of disappointing him.

Leaving the car, her heart pounded as she hurried to the obstetrics and gynecology department.

"Hannah?"

A familiar voice startled her. Turning, she saw Theodore. Again, they'd met at the hospital. Theodore, equally surprised, quickly caught up. "What are you doing here?" He strode ahead; Hannah, remembering her pregnant friend, Little Bunny, who struggled to keep pace, fell behind. They hadn't seen each other for months; now Little Bunny was nearing her due date, looking healthier but heavier.

"Hannah, I'm asking what you're doing here," Theodore said, unhappy with her silence.

"I'm not feeling well."

"Really?" Theodore looked suspicious. "What's wrong?"

"I'm going to gynecology and obstetrics. What do you think?"

"You're pregnant!" Theodore declared.

Hannah's nervousness intensified. "No, I'm just here for a checkup."

Theodore remained unconvinced. Ignoring him, Hannah approached Little Bunny. "Are you about to give birth?"

"My due date is any day now, but there's no sign yet. I'm here for a prenatal exam," Little Bunny replied. "Are you pregnant, Hannah?"

"No." Hannah preferred to wait for confirmation.

"I see," Little Bunny said, asking no further questions.

"Then hurry and get tested," Hannah urged.

"Okay," Little Bunny responded obediently.

Theodore and Little Bunny left together, he striding ahead as she struggled to keep up, her pace slowing. Their marriage was a consequence of the baby; afterward, they'd pursue separate livesโ€”Theodore already had his own plans, skillfully avoiding his father's scrutiny. Little Bunny simply longed for freedom after the birth.

Watching them from a distance, Hannah shook her head. Theodore would pay for his actions, she knew. Turning, she entered the doctor's office.

Nervously, Hannah gave a blood sample, the doctor explaining that a blood test was necessary since an early ultrasound might not detect a pregnancy. The wait was agonizing. Jimmy sat with her in the hallway. Hannah's thoughts drifted to her past life, her many visits to this same department, the anxiety of waiting, the ultimate disappointment. This time, though, felt different; this time, she yearned for a child with the man she loved.

The wait seemed endless. When the results arrived, she was stunned. Her past medical knowledge made the HCG levels clear.

"Hannah,"

Instinctively, Hannah hid the results behind her back. Seeing Oscar, she realized Theodore had told him.

"What's wrong?" Oscar asked, concerned.

Her fingers fumbled with the paper, her anxiety palpable.

"Give it to me." He likely suspected a serious illness.

She hesitated. Oscar's concern intensified. "Hannah," he said, his voice edged with anger, "Give it to me."

Hannah, fearing his reaction, handed him the crumpled paper. His fingers trembled as he took it; his love for her fueled his anxiety. Charles, her former husband, had never shown such concern; his care had been a mere pretense.

Hannah watched intently as Oscar studied the results, expecting a reaction, but he only frowned. "What the hell is HCG?"
