Chapter 672: Cherish the People in Front of You
Hannah stared at the man who had just claimed to be at the airport; now, he stood before her. She glared at Oscar, a hint of anger coloring her expression, though surprise was a more accurate description of her feeling. She focused on remaining calm.
Before she could speak, he enveloped her in a tight embrace. Hannah's heart leaped. An overwhelming wave of longing and nostalgia for Oscar washed over her. Ignoring the surrounding people, she buried her face in his chest, savoring his familiar warmth, momentarily forgetting everything else.
"Hey!" someone interrupted.
Hannah paused, remembering she was still at the office. For a moment, the world had consisted only of her and Oscar.
Oscar released her. They turned to see Theodore, who showed no embarrassment.
"My dad's waiting for you," he reminded Oscar.
Hannah frowned.
"Laird asked me to go to his place first, but I missed you so much, so I asked Theodore to pick you up," Oscar explained.
"You want me to come along?" Hannah felt uncomfortable participating in their family matters.
"We're also visiting Theodore's son. He's one month old."
"Okay," Hannah readily agreed. Perhaps due to her pregnancy, she'd developed a fondness for babies and children. She quickly arranged her work, delegating some tasks to Rose, and left with Oscar and Theodore.
In the car, Oscar unconsciously caressed Hannah's abdomen. After a moment, he frowned. "Why isn't she moving?"
Hannah remained silent. The baby was so small; movement would be a miracle.
"Haven't you been taking care of yourself and eating properly? My little princess hasn't grown at all; she must be starving!"
Again, Hannah was speechless. He truly believed he was an ultrasound machine. Besides, his "little princess" wasn't a piglet; she couldn't grow into a chubby baby in three months.
"I'll have Max supervise your diet," Oscar declared.
Theodore chuckled beside them, inexplicably pleased by Oscar's silliness.
They arrived at Wold Castle.
Entering the hall, they saw Laird Wold pacing, a baby in his arms. Little Bunny was also present, rising to greet them; she seemed much recovered after a month.
"Hold your son," Laird said, handing the baby to Theodore.
Theodore, rarely holding the baby, looked awkward. Little Bunny, fearing he'd drop the child, guided him. Hannah and Oscar watched, observing the baby's chubbier face and smoother skin. He was adorable. Hannah longed to hold him, but Oscar intercepted, noticing her slight displeasure and taking the baby so she could see him closer.
"Well, well," Theodore remarked, watching them, "strangers would think you two had my son. Why do you love him more?"
"Maybe he's family," Hannah smiled. "He could be my son-in-law."
"Good idea!" Theodore agreed, envisioning a beautiful daughter for Oscar and Hannah.
"No!" Oscar firmly refused. "If his son's like Theodore, my daughter's life will be ruined!"
Theodore bristled. "Aren't we bros?"
"You're my bro, so I know you well," Oscar retorted. "Being a bro is fine, but never a husband."
Theodore flushed, speechless. He admittedly wasn't attentive to his wife.
The hall grew noisy, and the baby cried. Even Oscar, usually composed, was flustered, unsure what he'd done wrong.
"He's probably hungry; I'll feed him," Little Bunny offered.
Oscar quickly handed her the baby. Hannah was touched by his careful movements, envisioning him as a good father.
Laird summoned Oscar and Theodore to the study; Manuel arrived shortly after. They likely had matters to discuss.
Hannah visited Little Bunny's room, where the baby slept. Little Bunny greeted her warmly.
"Please sit," Hannah said gently.
Little Bunny smiled, a little too respectfully.
"Don't be nervous," Hannah reassured her.
"Okay," Little Bunny nodded.
"Have you named the baby?" Hannah asked, sitting beside the cot.
"Not yet. Theodore hasn't been back," Little Bunny replied.
"No rush," Hannah said.
"Yeah."
"Don't take Oscar's words seriously," Hannah continued.
"Huh?" Little Bunny looked surprised.
"What he said about Theodore not being a good husband... don't overthink it. He's just childish; he'll grow up," Hannah explained.
Little Bunny smiled. "I didn't mind. We lacked feelings; we married and raise him together. I won't hide this: when he's weaned, I'll return to acting. I do feel a little sorry for him."
"No need. Women should have careers," Hannah agreed. "But have you mentioned this to Theodore and Laird?"
"Not yet. Theodore will agree, but Mr. Wold..." Little Bunny paused. "I'll try my best."
"Laird's reasonable. If Theodore treats you poorly, he can't keep you here forever. If Laird disagrees, call me; I'll help persuade him."
"Thank you," Little Bunny smiled, clearly surprised by Hannah's offer.
"It's okay. You'll have a bright future."
Little Bunny, encouraged, replied, "I'll work hard," her eyes filled with hope.
Hannah reflected that if Theodore didn't cherish his wife now, he might lose his chance forever.
