Chapter 737: Her Repentance

Edwardโ€™s heart ached with rage, soon replaced by dizziness. Heโ€™d recently experienced discomfort due to hypertension, and now struggled to maintain composure before the fury overwhelmed him.

โ€œEdward, donโ€™t even think about calling the police or trying to rescue her. If I suspect anything, I will kill her! Donโ€™t doubt my resolve. From the start, this has been my revenge!โ€

He hung up. Susan glared at him, incredulous at his viciousness and hatred for her father. She felt a surge of murderous intent.

Henry casually replaced the phone, his gaze shifting to Susan with a smirk. โ€œNow you know who I am.โ€

Susan only glared.

โ€œAnd you know why I approached you.โ€ He reached out to remove her gag.

โ€œHenry, you monster!โ€ Susan snarled.

โ€œNo, Iโ€™m not a monster. Your father is! If he hadnโ€™t refused us a loan, my family wouldn't have been ruined. My parents wouldn't beโ€ฆ gone. You canโ€™t comprehend the devastation of a broken family, the pain of a shattered life.โ€

โ€œMy dad never did that!โ€ Susan insisted, despite her dislike for him, retaining a belief in his decency.

โ€œDid you expect to be kidnapped?โ€

Susan fell silent.

โ€œLetโ€™s just say you have poor judgment.โ€

Indeed, her judgment was flawed. Otherwise, she would have been with Manuel from the beginning.

โ€œSusan, I sacrificed for you,โ€ Henry stated, his voice self-assured, devoid of anger or agitation. Yet, his ruthlessness was undeniable.

โ€œIf youโ€™d loved me, I might have only taken your familyโ€™s property. I wouldnโ€™t have hurt you. I even considered showing mercy to your father, the man who destroyed my family. Iโ€™ve been consumed by revenge since childhood. But you failed to quell my hatred, pushing me to the brink.โ€ He huffed, malevolently.

โ€œWhat did I do?โ€ Susan demanded, realizing too late the depth of his machinations.

โ€œReally? You donโ€™t know?โ€ Henry asked rhetorically.

โ€œI loved Manuel from the start. You interfered!โ€ Susan retorted.

โ€œYes, I interfered, hoping you could save me from this hatred. But you disappointed me! Even knowing your feelings for Manuel, I almost spared your family. I only wanted your property as retribution. With the Phillipsโ€™ wealth, I could have treated you better, cared for your father. I could have let go of the feud. But you pushed me too far.โ€

โ€œBy the way, do you know who orchestrated the elevator accident tonight?โ€

Susan gasped.

โ€œMe! It was part of my plan to kill Manuel. Heโ€™s the biggest obstacle to my acquiring the bank. Heโ€™s more capable than I anticipated, so he had to die. But I didnโ€™t expect you to be with him so late. Reminiscing? Because of you, I decided to stop.โ€ Henry confessed.

It dawned on her: Manuel had told the guard to call Henry first. Manuel had told the truthโ€”Henry was behind it all.

She knew nothing. She was a fool, a pathetic fool whose stupidity could kill her father, Manuel, even herself.

โ€œI gave you chances. If youโ€™d cooperated tonight, if you hadnโ€™t hit me with the vaseโ€ฆ Itโ€™s all your fault! You pushed it to this!โ€ Henryโ€™s gaze was cold, meeting only numbness.

โ€œYes, itโ€™s my fault! I betrayed you! Iโ€™m an idiot! Since itโ€™s my fault, kill me and spare them!โ€ Susan screamed.

โ€œRelax. None of you will survive. Whatโ€™s done is done. Your survival threatens me. But before you die, Iโ€™ll take your familyโ€™s property and kill your father first.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re a maniac!โ€ she sobbed.

How had she been deceived? Sheโ€™d brought this monster to her father! If not for his confession, she never would have known his true nature. She deserved to die for her appalling stupidity, yet all she wanted was for the others to live.

โ€œYouโ€™re right, Iโ€™m a maniac. But because of you.โ€ Henry sneered.

โ€œI wish you a terrible death!โ€ Susan cursed.

He smirked, unconcerned about death. Then, their attention was diverted. A woman entered.

Susan didnโ€™t recognize her, but she was clearly significant to Henry.

The woman approached with a lunchbox. โ€œHenry, your breakfast.โ€

Henry smiled indulgently. โ€œNo one following you?โ€

โ€œOf course not,โ€ the woman replied.

โ€œGood.โ€ He turned to Susan. โ€œBreakfast?โ€

โ€œNo!โ€ Susan huffed.

โ€œEmily, join me,โ€ Henry said softly to the woman.
