Chapter 743 Discovered

Susan sensed the womanโ€™s hostility. Instead of a direct question, she asked, "Do you like Henry?"

Emily remained silent.

"What's your relationship with Henry? He's not your brother, is he?" Susan pressed.

"Don't pry into his affairs through me. I won't tell you anything," Emily replied coldly.

"Do you know his actions could land him in prison, even get him killed?" Susan threatened.

"He won't," Emily retorted, staring intently. "He's smart and careful."

"Aren't you scared? He's dangerous, and he's with you."

"Your family killed his parents. He's only doing what he believes is right."

"Has he brainwashed you?" Susan asked sarcastically.

"Susan, he wouldn't have gotten this far without your family's actions."

"Right, you've been brainwashed," Susan concluded. "You're his accomplice, and you'll face legal consequences."

"You don't need to threaten me. I'd die for him."

"So you do like him," Susan affirmed.

Emily didn't deny it. "Yes, I like Henry. I can't bear seeing him with you."

A shadow crossed Susan's eyes.

"You'll never understand the years of his pursuit, his courtship, his love for you. And you, you never valued his feelings. You hurt him deeply."

"Should I cherish a man who wants to kill my family?" Susan's voice rose slightly.

"Your family started it!" Emily retorted angrily.

Susan was surprised by this outburst; the woman had been meek around Henry.

"It was all your family's fault! Why blame Henry? He killed themโ€”they deserved it!" Emily's pent-up emotions exploded.

Feeling uneasy, Susan knew she couldn't confront Emily now.

"Susan, I hate you. I was thrilled when I heard you were kidnapped. Seeing you in such a stateโ€ฆ but," Emily glared fiercely, "I can't believe he still can't let you go; he still likes you!"

Susan's muscles tensed. She stared at the furious woman.

"I thought he was over you. But he asked me to buy your favorite lunch today. You were going on a hunger strike, and he tried to feed you. Susan, why? Why does he love and cherish you?" Emily's red, tear-filled eyes were frightening.

"Then let me go!" Susan exclaimed. "Let me go, and Henry is all yours."

"I'm not that stupid," Emily said coldly. "If I let you go, it'll be over. I wonder if he likes your faceโ€ฆ"

Susan's heart clenched; a shiver ran down her spine.

"So if I ruin your face, he won't miss you, dead or alive, right?" Emily produced a knife.

Susan was stunned. The knife was inches from her cheek.

"I've wanted to do this for a long time. I dream of scarring your face," she hissed, a manic glee in her voice.

Susan stared, paralyzed, at the blade. As she was about to scream, a hand seized the knife. She looked up to see Henry, gripping the blade, blood dripping from his palm.

Emily recoiled in fear. "Henry, why are you still protecting her?" she cried.

Henry snatched the knife away. "Don't hurt her!"

"Henry!" Emily wept.

"I won't say that again." Henry left, his hand bleeding.

Susan watched his back, feeling an undefinable emotion.

"Bitch!" Emily cursed.

Susan tried to ignore Henry's intervention. She would never forgive someone who targeted her family.

"You'll die sooner or later!" Emily spat, slamming the door.

The slamming door caught Henry's attention. He hesitated, unsure whether to call Emily back, knowing her identity was a secret.

Outside, the noise alerted Manuel. He'd arrived on the 26th floor, much further than the 23rd. He hid in the hallway. Through the crack in the door, he saw a womanโ€”red-eyed and tear-streakedโ€”exiting the apartment. He ducked as she entered the hallway. She wanted to vent but didn't want Susan to see her jealousy.

Emily believed Henry would return to her.

As she entered the hallway, a figure grabbed her. She was about to scream when Manuel covered her mouth.

Manuel coldly whispered, "Is Susan here?"

Recognizing Manuel, Emily realized he was after Susan. How had he found them so quickly? She knew she had to warn Henry. She would protect him, no matter what.

She struggled fiercely, seemingly unconcerned about her safety. Manuel hadn't expected such ferocity.

"I'll kill you if you struggle again," he threatened.

Ignoring him, she lunged against the emergency door, causing a loud crash. Manuel knew Henry would be alerted. He struck her hard on the back of the head; she slumped unconscious. He hurried to the apartment door just as Henry opened it, Susan bound beside him.
