Chapter 746: Reconciled

"You won't be able to remain so indifferent if you still love her!" Henry declared.

Manuel remained silent. Observing Manuel's composed demeanor, Susan concluded he'd come to rescue her out of humanitarian concern, not from any lingering feelings. If he failed to save her, he'd at least have done his best.

This thought lowered her gaze. Facing death, she felt both fear and the sting of past hurts. Yet, she harbored no complaints; she accepted responsibility for her predicament.

"Emily," Henry said, looking away.

Nearby, Emily watched him perched on the rooftop's edge. She couldn't accept that he risked his life for another woman.

Suppressing her emotions, Emily called out, "Henry."

"Phone Edward," Henry commanded.

"Can you just let it go?" Emily pleaded.

Henry glared at her coldly.

"Please, let it go! I don't want you to die," Emily cried, her eyes brimming with tears.

"It's my business."

"Why can't you just set yourself free?" Emily exclaimed. "We've endured so much; we can finally build our lives. Why can't we live peacefully, move on, and be happy together?"

"Because I've suffered, and I'm eager for retribution against those who ruined my life! Emily, I don't want to hate you!" Henry threatened. "Do you know what a huge mistake you made telling Manuel my plan? I would have secured Phillips Bank by now if you hadn't betrayed me!"

"Then what?" Emily asked. "What happens after you get the bank?"

"You'll marry Susan, driving us further apart. But Henry, when we were children, you promised to care for me my entire life, give me status and wealth, marry me, and bring me happiness," Emily choked back a sob. "But you're drifting away, loving her more and moreโ€ฆ"

"Shut up!" Henry interrupted. "Are you going to call him or not?"

Emily fought to regain control. She didn't want Henry to seek revenge; she only wanted an honest life with him.

"If you don't make the call, I'll jump, taking Susan with me," Henry said resolutely.

Emily looked at him through her tears. She knew he would do it. She understood his intention to perish with others.

But she couldn't let him die.

Emily finally picked up the phone and dialed Edward's number. Manuel lunged forward, attempting to snatch her phone.

"Manuel, don't even try it!" Henry pressed the knife harder against Susan's neck.

Susan cried out in pain, "Ouch!"

Manuel stopped.

"I'll sever her arteries next!"

Manuel's muscles tensed. Edward answered the phone, and Emily put it on speaker.

"Everything done?" Henry demanded.

"I've transferred my shares to Susan; you have administrator access," Edward said urgently.

"Show me a picture," Henry ordered.

"Okay." Edward ended the call, then sent a scanned copy of the transfer agreement. Henry sneered and told Emily to call him again. "It's over. Now you can kill yourself."

"Where's Susan?" Edward asked.

"Want to say goodbye? Fine, I'll let you and your daughter reunite for a moment."

"Susan!" Edward called.

Susan cried at the sound of her father's voice.

"Susan, Susan! Are you alright?" Edward asked anxiously.

Henry glared at her. "Speak, or I'll hurt you."

Susan gritted her teeth. Edward's voice choked with emotion. "I'm sorry, Susan. Dad caused you so much trouble."

Tears streamed down Susan's face.

"I deeply regret not seeing your mother before she died, causing you to resent me for so many years. But it wasn't because of Justine; your mother repeatedly lied to me, and I thought she was lying again. If I'd known it was my last chance to see her, I wouldn't have refused."

Susan no longer cared about the past. She regretted her stubborn resentment. She'd long known her parents were unhappy, even married. Her hatred stemmed from her mother's negativity and her mother's perceived weakness.

But now she regretted it, too. Edward had always cherished her, regardless of his divorce.

Susan's vision blurred with tears.

"Dad's so sorry," Edward sobbed.

Susan had never seen her father cry. This sight broke her heart. Finally, she whispered, "Dad, I never hated you."

Edward paused, stunned.

"I never hated you. I know you and Mom didn't get along. I was difficult because I craved your attention. I was terrified you'd be taken away by Justine and Manuel, that you wouldn't love me anymore," Susan sobbed.

"Little fool. You'll always be my precious one. I admit I loved Justine, and I liked Manuel. But you'll always be the most important."

"It's my fault," Susan cried.

"No, it's my fault. If I hadn't done what I did, you wouldn't be sufferingโ€ฆ"

"I don't blame you, Dad. It doesn't matter if I die, but you must stay alive," Susan pleaded. "Dad, don't let Henry threaten you. He won't let me go if you die. He's insaneโ€ฆ"

Henry clamped a hand over Susan's mouth. With reddened eyes, she struggled against him.

"Move again, and we jump together."

At that moment, Susan would rather die than see her father threatened.
