Chapter 751: Hannah Is Grounded
Justine finally called Hannah. She understood Susan's distress but adhered to her own principles, unwilling to offer comfort. The betrayal of her son remained a lasting grievance. She preferred finding someone else to support Susan rather than extending kindness herself.
The call connected.
"Hello, Ms. Knight," Hannah said politely.
"Call me Justine, as Oscar does," Justine replied, pleased with Hannah's respectful demeanor.
"I'll just call you Ms. Knight," Hannah demurred, unsure of her place in Oscar's life and hesitant to overstep boundaries.
Justine, a thoughtful woman, possessed considerable knowledge of Oscar's affairs and undisclosed secrets. She chose not to pressure Hannah.
"All right, we haven't officially met before," Justine said smoothly.
Hannah chuckled, acknowledging the lack of a formal introduction.
"Why are you calling, Ms. Knight?" she asked.
Justine glanced at the still-sobbing Susan. "Edward is in the emergency room; he's dying. Susan's distraught. Come see her."
Hannah was shocked. "Okay, which hospital?"
"The Central Hospital."
"I'll be right there."
"Take your time, watch your belly," Justine cautioned.
"Okay," Hannah replied, hanging up and hurrying off.
"Madam," Max approached quickly. "What happened?"
"Susan's in trouble; I need to go to the hospital," Hannah explained.
"Okay, butโฆ" Max hesitated.
Hannah, however, had no time for his reservations. She knew Susan couldn't cope alone in this crisis. Her pace quickened with each thought of Susan's vulnerability. As she reached the door, a bodyguard blocked her exit.
Confusion clouded Hannah's face.
"Madam, Mr. Wells said you cannot leave the villa," the bodyguard stated.
Hannah's expression darkened. Now she understood Max's hesitation. She needed Oscar's permission to leave. She called him, but only a disconnected message played.
Hannah's lips pursed. She'd assumed Oscar would never turn off his phone. Then she tried Theodore, also disconnected.
Where were Oscar and Theodore?
"I have urgent business and must leave," Hannah told the bodyguard.
"Sorry, Madam. We cannot allow it without Mr. Wells's permission."
Hannah's anger flared.
"Madam, why don't you wait? Master Oscar will call you back," Max suggested, effectively informing her she was confined.
Hannah, desperate to leave, pushed past the bodyguard. He didn't resist. Max, alarmed by her actions and her pregnancy, urged caution.
"I need to leave! Now!" Hannah insisted firmly.
"Madam, please calm down."
"Max, I repeat: I need to leave, now!"
"It's Master Oscar's order; we dare not disobey," Max explained.
"Get out of my way!" Hannah yelled at the guard. They remained impassive.
Hannah struggled to control her temper.
"Is it true you'll only listen to Oscar?"
"Yes, Madam."
Realizing her imprisonment, Hannah composed herself and called another number.
"Hannah?" a doubtful voice answered.
"Yes. Can you give me your sister's number?" Hannah asked calmly, requesting Sarah Collins's help to reach Lilian. Lilian was the only one who might know Oscar's location.
Sarah sneered. "What? You can't handle it anymore and want to fight with my sister?"
"It's not about Oscar. I need to speak to her urgently."
"About what?"
"I don't know where Oscar is, and I need your sister to find him."
"So, it's still about Oscar," Sarah retorted.
Hannah, ignoring the jab, repeated her request.
"Nope," Sarah refused.
Hannah gripped her phone. She'd anticipated Sarah's refusal but lacked alternatives.
Sarah paused, continuing, "Anyway, you can't afford the consequences."
Hannah countered, "If I wanted to provoke her, I would have done so already."
"I won't help you. Why should I?"
"Sarah, if it weren't for me, you would have been killed by Charles."
"But if it weren't for me, Oscar would have been killed by Charles. You used me against Charles, and you're also responsible for my miscarriage."
"It's none of my business," Hannah denied.
Sarah's ironic laughter echoed. "Well, I have no proof, but Hannah, isn't your life miserable? Your first man, Charles, belongs to me now, and Oscar belongs to my sister. Haven't you always been so calculating? And yet, you end up abandoned, don't you?"
