Chapter 780: A Frame-Up
Sarah looked at Hannah doubtfully, unable to believe sheโd been framed. Shaking her head, she flustered, "I didn't push her! She fell. I didn'tโฆ"
Hannah, deathly pale and clutching her belly, gasped, "How can you say only you could have a baby, but not me?"
"I never said that! You're twisting the truth!" Sarah cried, her emotional instability evident. She'd never been framed before.
Oscar, his face grave, held Hannah, thunderstruck by the sight of the flooded floor. He immediately rushed from the villa, Hannah in his arms.
"Master Oscar!" Max ran after them, worried by Hannah's pallor, but silent.
Dumbfounded, Sarah hurried after them. She'd assumed Hannah framed her to alienate Oscar, but Hannah's bleeding was unexpected. A miscarriage would leave Sarah utterly defenseless; she imagined Oscar's revenge, knowing no one, not even Rowan, could protect her.
Fear and foreboding gripped her. She ordered her driver to follow Oscar's speeding car.
Hannah remained silent in Oscar's arms; he held her tightly, speechless, his arms trembling. Hannah felt his tremor but remained silent.
At the hospital gate, doctors and nurses awaited. Upon arrival, they swiftly transferred Hannah to a gurney and rushed her to casualty. Oscar waited outside, panic etched on his face.
Sarah arrived later, watching Oscar's anxious demeanor. She'd always believed Oscar didn't truly love Hannah, having compromised with her family. Now, she questioned her assumption. Approaching Oscar, she pleaded, "Iโฆ I didn't push Hannah. She fell, I swear!" Her voice was agitated.
"Shut up!" Oscar roared, furious.
Sarah had never seen such anger in him. Even Charles's brutal torture hadn't elicited this horrifying display. She felt awful; always the center of attention, she'd never been treated this way. Grievances welled up, but she choked them back, tears welling. She stared at Oscar and the casualty ward, vowing revenge.
Silence blanketed the corridor. Oscar clenched his fists, his anxiety palpable. An hour later, the door opened. He rushed to the doctor, too nervous to speak.
"The fetus is safe, and the bleeding has stopped. However, we recommend Ms. Cooper remain for observation," the doctor said.
Oscar nodded sharply, unable to imagine the alternative.
Hannah's gurney emerged shortly afterward. Pale and sick, her eyes closed, she seemed asleepโperhaps unwilling to face them. Oscar moved her to the ward, his unspoken words swallowed.
Hannah lay peacefully in bed. The doctor spoke at length, but she didn't hear. Oscar listened intently. Only they and a few nurses remained in the ward.
"The doctor said you should eat something. I asked Max to bring gruel," Oscar said gently.
Sarah felt displeasure. Hannah's safety only fueled her jealousy; Oscar's tenderness was galling. Why is he so kind to her? How dare she act so superior? she thought, suppressing her anger.
Hannah remained unresponsive, so Oscar fell silent. A heavy quiet settled over the ward.
"Ms. Collins, did you hope I'd have an abortion?" Hannah asked calmly.
Sarah erupted, "Hannah, enough! Don't twist things before Oscar!"
Ignoring her, Hannah turned to Oscar. "The doctor said the baby wouldn't have survived without immediate treatment." She hadn't looked at him in a long time, using him now for her own ends.
"I know. And I guarantee it won't happen again," Oscar said.
"How can you guarantee that?" Hannah smiled.
"I'll make her leave," Oscar stated bluntly.
"No! I didn't do it! If I wanted her to have an abortion, I wouldn't have been so stupid, doing it in front of you. I'm not that foolish!" Sarah cried.
