Chapter 804: The Woman Who Bursts into Anger
Hearing Hannah's words, Susan almost laughed aloud. "Sarah regards herself as a big deal! That's funny. Look, Hannah just thumbs her nose at her," she thought.
Sarah glared at Susan, watching her gleeful laughter. Gritting her teeth, she reminded herself not to seek trouble with Susan, though she had once despised her. "You said we were on the same boat last time," she stated bluntly.
Hannah smiled. So Sarah's reason for coming was to cooperate. She'd expected Sarah to compromise, especially after Oscar's scolding; revenge seemed likely. Hannah assumed Sarah also sought retribution against Oscar and planned to oppose him.
Hannah nodded. "Correct."
"How do you want me to help you?"
Sarah admitted she'd thought long and hard since returning. She would never forget Oscar's treatment in the hospital. His current behavior would make him regret it. She would aid Hannah in leaving him, making things difficult for both of them. Ultimately, though, it was Hannah's choice to leave; if Oscar sought blame, it wouldn't involve her.
After planning, Sarah returned to Kensbury City to see Hannah. But Hannah refused. "No, thanks."
Sarah's face hardened, her stare intense. "Is this woman trying to make fun of me?" she thought. "What do you mean?" she gritted out, anger rising. She'd deliberated long and hard, finally deciding to cooperate with Hannah, to help her leave Oscar. She couldn't believe Hannah's refusal.
Hannah, sensing Sarah's rising temper, said calmly and indifferently, "I never wanted your help."
"You didn't want my help? So you played me last time? Or you're testing me?" Sarah fumed, stamping her foot. "Are Hannah and Oscar still allied? By helping her, I disobeyed Oscar and risk being caught. If he tells Dadโฆ" Fear shook her. Her family position was precarious; another misstep would disappoint her father. She clenched her fists, her face paling with anger. "How could I be tricked again?"
Hannah, understanding Sarah's thoughts, said, "It's not as complicated as you think. I simply feel you can't help me at all."
"You!" Sarah trembled with rage. "Hannah, a mistress, imprisoned here, dares to look down on me? She's not in a position to be sarcastic." she thought.
"I didn't want to trick you. When I suggested cooperation, I did want you to do something for me," Hannah said slowly, her calm a stark contrast to Sarah's fury. "I wanted you to help me contact your sister, Lillian."
Sarah stared venomously. It struck herโfrom the start, Hannah only wanted to cooperate with Lillian. She wasn't as good as Lillian, in Hannah's eyes.
"I already met and spoke with her at the hospital. I don't need you to act as a go-between. You're no longer useful!"
"Hannah!"
Sarah, raised believing herself superior, had always treated Lillian as a foolish younger sister, dismissing her. She already envied Lillian's recent success; Hannah's words sent her into a trembling rage, emphasizing her perceived inferiority.
"So you can leave now if there's nothing else. It's getting late; I need to rest."
Sarah stared coldly. She'd arrived so confident, only to be reduced to this by Hannah.
"Hannah, you know I work at your company, right?" Sarah spat.
"That's not my company," Hannah smiled. "It's CL Group now."
CL, Hannah reckoned, symbolized Cian and Lillianโthe two most important people in Oscar's life.
"I'll ruin your company, mess with every employee!" Sarah threatened.
"That's not my problem. It's Oscar or Manuel's."
"Humph!" Sarah left angrily.
She couldn't believe Hannah felt nothing for the former Cooper Group. Hannah had made her employees grateful for the benefits she'd provided. "I'll make everyone important to her suffer!" she thought.
Watching Sarah's expulsion, Susan felt pleased. "Hannah's still the sameโcomposed and calm, able to infuriate people with a few words," she thought. She'd expected Hannah to be decadent and depressed under Oscar's pressure. While still feeling wronged by Oscar's actions, she was relieved to see Hannah's resilience.
Susan asked, "Hannah, do you want to leave Oscar?" Hannah's conversation with Sarah suggested as much.
"Yes. But I can't now," Hannah admitted.
"That bastard," Susan cursed.
"It's a matter of time," Hannah said patiently, changing the subject. "Why are you here tonight?"
"You don't want me here?"
"Aren't you busy?" Hannah laughed. She recalled Susan's late-night call, confessing suicidal thoughts from work stress. Hannah knew it was venting, and felt a touch of amusement. Susan was growing up, becoming more responsible, even if reluctantly. "The tragedy of my last life," Hannah thought, "probably won't happen again."
"Manuel said Oscar's left, and he asked me to stay with you," Susan stated.
Hannah visibly recoiled from any mention of Oscar. Noticing this, Susan said, "Hannah, do you know how awful Manuel is now?" She recounted the day's events. Seeing Susan's good spirits, Hannah realized she wasn't truly irritated, just venting. "Have you ever considered getting back together with him?"
Susan's eyes widened. "Don't be ridiculous. How could we get back together? He's been kind only because he didn't kill me!" The thought was unthinkable.
