Chapter 810: Sarah Had It Coming

We worked all night again. Everyone was exhausted, but we couldn't go home. Sarah, however, went back to sleep after asking us to stay upโ€”a pattern that had repeated all week. She was the only one enjoying herself, even posting about "another sleepless night," implying hard work. It made me want to throw a cup of coffee in her face. She's infuriating!

Hannah pursed her lips. If this continued, the company would go bankrupt. She said to Rose, "I'll call you later."

"Ms. Hannah, I'm not asking for help. I just needed to talk. Everyone's under immense pressure, and I feared complaining would cause chaos. You don't need to take this seriously. We're dedicated to our jobs and we won't forget your support."

"I know," Hannah replied. "I'll call you later."

"Okay."

Hannah then called Manuel.

"Hannah."

"Have you left Cooper Group?"

"Not exactly. But Sarah's there, and I'm trying to avoid interfering for my family's sake."

"So you'll let her do whatever she wants?"

"Not exactly, but sometimes I have to grant her authority to avoid conflict with the Collins family."

"Fine, I understand."

"Hannah," Manuel noted her strained tone, "If you have questions, call Oscar. He can explainโ€ฆ"

"No, thanks," Hannah refused. "I'd rather ask you."

Manuel was silent.

"Since you can't fix it, I will."

She hung up.

Manuel stared at his phone. He, and Oscar, knew what Sarah was doing at Cooper Group. They weren't leaving her alone because of the Collins family; they were looking for a way to oust her.

Manuel called someone. "How's the Sarah situation?"

"We've been gathering evidence. I'll send it to you now."

"Good."

He paused, noticing Susan's name on his phone. He wanted to call, but didn't. She'd taken leave and hadn't returned or contacted him since.

Manuel put down his phone and returned to work.

Hannah called Rose back.

"Ms. Hannah."

"Just Hannah."

Rose hesitated.

Hannah changed the subject. "Your concerns about Sarah were work-related. Even if we exposed her, she could easily spin it as dedication. It wouldn't hurt her; it might even boost her image."

Rose was confused.

Hannah asked, "Has she ever said anything insulting?"

Rose considered. "Yes!"

"Like what?"

"She said our ideas were outdated and rigid, that we lacked constructive ideas, even though we worked long hours."

"Not enough."

"What do you mean?"

"Aren't you all sick of her? We'll get rid of her."

"Get rid of her? How? She's from the Collins family, appointed by Mr. Wells. And I heard Mr. Wells and Lilian Collins areโ€ฆ" Rose trailed off, fearing she'd upset Hannah.

Hannah already knew. The news and gossip were everywhere.

"That's why we need outside help," Hannah said calmly. She'd stopped caring a long time ago.

Rose remained confused. Sarah's powerful family seemed insurmountable. Rose had only wanted to vent, not ask for Hannah's help.

Rose didn't understand why Hannah left Cooper Group, but the news revealed Oscar and Lilian's relationship. She'd never known him to be so unscrupulous.

"Do as I sayโ€ฆ" Hannah instructed Rose.

Rose was shocked by Hannah's unwavering resolve.

"Keep in touch. Tell me everything. It'll be harder if she finds out."

"I understand."

Hannah added something before hanging up. She then watched TV, switching between entertainment and news. She saw Oscar with Lilian frequently.

"How far along is she? What if something happens?" she wondered.

Hannah turned off the TV, still feeling sad. Even the baby in her womb seemed to sense her frustration. She stroked her belly and went for a walk.

Max, living with Hannah, pitied her solitude. He sensed her hidden sadness, even when she tried to hide it. He didn't know when it would end, when things would return to normal.
