Chapter 947: Oscar's Choice
"Hannah, that's not what you said earlier!" Lillian sneered. "You told me you loved Oscar and didn't want him to die because of your love for him."
She glanced at Oscar, hoping for a sign of pain, but his gaze remained cold and emotionless.
Hannah responded calmly, "If I hadn't said that, how could you have agreed to my suggestion?"
Lillian's anger flared. "Hannah, you're sacrificing yourself for him even though he doesn't care! You're only doing this so he'll choose Una and leave us behind. Your foolishness appalls me."
"Life is meant to be lived honestly," Hannah said firmly, meeting Lillian's gaze. "I owe Cian a debt, and it will burden my conscience until I repay it. Now I can do so and feel worthwhile."
Lillian laughed sarcastically, but her attempts to torment Oscar and Hannah seemed futile. Oscar's indifference made it clear he had given up on Hannah.
"Hannah, I wanted to help you. We're both victims of Oscar. I pity you, but it seems I can't help."
Hannah understood Lillian's plan—to torture Oscar by making his choice more agonizing. Perhaps, however, Lillian herself wasn't fully aware of her own motivations.
"It's almost dawn," Lillian said abruptly, as the horizon brightened, reflecting on the sea. She wanted the day to end quickly, to avoid another sunrise.
"Hannah just told me how much you care about Una," Lillian continued.
"My only remaining blood relative," Oscar replied.
"But I don't believe it."
Oscar knew Lillian wouldn't change her mind; she didn't trust him.
"But Hannah told me much, and I agree with her. She said that as long as you come, there will be someone on the yacht you care about—either Hannah or Una," Lillian said, her tone unusually icy. Oscar's lack of concern for her felt crushing.
"Now you can make a choice."
Oscar's eyes flickered as he stared at Lillian, anticipating her words. His body trembled uncontrollably. Lillian, sensing his distress, felt a surge of excitement.
Slowly, she said, "Oscar, Una and Hannah—you can choose one to take with you!"
Oscar clenched his fists, struggling to control himself.
"After that," Lillian watched him closely, "the other will stay with me until we die! No matter what happens between us, I don't want it to end in destruction!"
Oscar's eyes were red-rimmed, his suppressed desperation threatening to overwhelm him. He swallowed hard, trying to regain control.
Silence stretched between them, the tension palpable.
"You have two more minutes…" Lillian urged impatiently.
Before she finished, Oscar spoke. "Let go of Hannah and Una! I'll die with you!"
Lillian and Hannah were surprised.
"The one you want revenge against is me alone. Why involve others? Our grudge should be settled between us! If you want revenge, let me die before your eyes!"
Lillian was stunned. Then she smiled. "Oscar, your proposal moves me. To die with you makes my life worthwhile. At least, both sides are hurt equally, my family won't lose so badly!"
"Okay, kill me. Take your revenge. I'll pay for hurting you with my life," Oscar said firmly. Hannah believed he might shoot himself if he had a gun.
"But…" Lillian's voice alerted Oscar. "You should thank Hannah. She made many sacrifices to keep you alive. I don't know if she predicted you'd choose to die with me, but she told me the ultimate revenge is making someone wish they were dead!"
Oscar looked at Hannah, the woman he loved most, but he couldn't reach her.
"Are you moved?"
Oscar remained silent.
"If someone did this to me, I'd be moved. So, I've decided to listen to her. I'll make your life WORSE THAN DEATH!"
His trembling was undeniable; he was panicked. Yet, Lillian's softening towards him was quickly suppressed. Remembering his actions, his betrayal, she knew she could never forgive him.
"Oscar, I'll give you two more minutes. If you don't choose, I'll hit the button. I've rigged this yacht with bombs. We'll all die together."
"All right," Oscar agreed, shocking Lillian.
