Chapter 327
AURORA
โWhat is it?โ I asked, crossing my arms and glaring at Kaida. She smirked, dragging herself closer to the bars of her cell. โCome closer if you want to hear it,โ she taunted, rolling her eyes.
I stepped forward cautiously, keeping a safe distance. I didnโt trust her, not for a second. โSpeak now, or Iโll leave. I have no time for games.โ
She lowered her head and grinned, a sinister glint in her eyes. โDonโt worry, Aurora,โ she said, her voice dripping with malice. โYouโre already close enough.โ
Before I could react, her tongue darted out, pushing a small metallic object from her mouth. She blew it toward me; the tiny shard gleamed in the dim light. I screamed, instinctively closing my eyes and throwing up my arms to shield my face. There was no time to dodge.
โYour death could buy me the freedom I need,โ she hissed, her voice echoing in the cold dungeon.
Suddenly, strong arms pulled me into a protective embrace. My heart raced, but the familiar scent of cedarwood and rain instantly calmed me. Dane.
He held me tightly, his steady hands soothing the tremors running through my body. โYouโre fine, honey,โ he whispered, his voice soft and comforting. โYouโre safe now.โ
I buried my face in his chest, breathing unevenly as I clung to him. He gently kissed my head, his hand rubbing soothing circles on my back.
After a moment, I pulled back slightly and looked up at him. Standing on tiptoe, I kissed him softly on the lips, and he returned the kiss with a warmth that chased away my lingering fear.
When I turned to face Kaida, she watched us, her expression twisted into a bitter scowl. But the moment our eyes met, she forced a fake, malicious smile.
I smiled back, triumphant. โYou missed, Kaida,โ I said, my voice steady. โMy Dane saved me.โ
She rolled her eyes dismissively. โDonโt worry,โ she sneered. โIโll try harder next time.โ
Dane stepped forward, gripping the cell bars with enough force to make them creak. His voice was a low growl, laced with fury. โIf you so much as harm a single hair on her head,โ he warned, his eyes glowing with his wolfโs rage, โI swear to the goddess, I will wipe out your entire pack.โ

Kaida chuckled darkly, feigning fear. โOh no,โ she mocked, covering her face theatrically. โThe big, bad Alpha is threatening me. How terrifying.โ She lowered her hands, her grin widening. โJust a few days ago, you were at my mercy, Dane. Funny how quickly things change.โ
Dane bared his fangs, his anger palpable. โKaida, Iโm warning you,โ he snarled.
โShh,โ she said, pressing a finger to her lips. Dane instinctively stepped back, out of her reach. He wiped his mouth with his sleeve, spitting on the ground as if her presence disgusted him.
Her eyes darkened with desire as she leaned against the bars. โDo you know what truly suits those amazing lips of yours?โ she purred.
We both remained silent, glaring at her. I was too shaken to speak, still replaying the near-death experience in my mind.
Kaida smirked, running her hands sensually over her body. โThose lips were meant for meโfor my neck, my breasts,โ she whispered, her voice dripping with venom.
I couldnโt listen to another word. Spotting a bucket of water nearby, I grabbed it and flung the contents at her.
She gasped as the water drenched her, her smirk vanishing as she looked down at her soaked clothing.
โThat suits your body much better,โ I spat, my voice sharp with anger.

Grabbing Daneโs arm, I turned and stormed out of the dungeon. A sudden noise made me stop and turn around. One of the guards was convulsing on the floor, foam and blood spilling from his mouth and nose.
โGet the pack doctor!โ I yelled, panic gripping me as the guards rushed to obey.
Dane crouched beside the guard, checking his pulse. His face darkened as he looked up at me. โItโs too late, Aurora,โ he said grimly. โHeโs gone.โ
Kaidaโs mocking laughter rang out from her cell. โYouโre lucky, Luna. Your savior showed up just in time. That could have been you.โ
My chest tightened with a mix of fear and rage as I turned to glare at her. โYouโll pay for this, Kaida,โ I vowed, my voice trembling with anger.
I stormed out, Dane following closely behind. The guards quickly carried the young guardโs lifeless body out of the dungeon.
As we reached the top of the stairs, Dane stopped me, pulling me into a tight embrace. โWhy did you go down there alone?โ he asked, his voice thick with emotion. โWhat would I have done without you?โ
I smiled softly as he pulled back slightly, only to begin kissing meโmy forehead, my cheeks, even my arms.
โCome on, Dane, stop it,โ I said, laughing despite myself. โI know youโll always protect me. Youโd never let anything happen to me, right?โ
He nodded firmly, his eyes filled with unwavering devotion. โAlways,โ he said. โFor you and for our kids.โ
He held my hand as we walked back toward my office. โI have a headache,โ I murmured as we reached the door.
โStay here,โ he said, his tone gentle but firm. โIโll bring you lunch and some medicine.โ
I nodded, entering the office while he headed toward the kitchen. To my surprise, Evander was already there, slumped over my desk with his head resting on his arms.
โEvander?โ I said, startled. โWhat are you doing here?โ
He raised his head slowly, his face weary and his eyes filled with a mix of sadness and resolve. โI needed to give you this,โ he said, his voice low as he slid a small photo across the desk toward me.
I picked it up and turned it over, my breath catching as I recognized the face.
โPiperโs photo?โ I asked softly.
He nodded, his lips pressing into a thin line. โIโm ready to let go of Piper now,โ he said, his voice breaking.
My jaw dropped as I stared at him, stunned. His shoulders shook, and I realized he was crying silently, his face buried in his hands.
Covering my mouth with one hand, I looked down at the photo, my heart aching for him.
