Chapter 337

AURORA

I can’t believe my eyes. Dane, oh my god. No! I raced out of the dungeon; my heart ached, the pang unbearable. Is this what he’s doing now? For how long? Is it why he brought her here? Dane is cheating on me with her.

“Aurora… my love, please wait!!” Dane called after me as I ran away. Why is he following me now? He went to her and left me in bed in the dead of night; why the heck is he following me now?

I questioned everything as I reached my room. I entered and slammed the door shut, locking it and pressing my back against it.

“Babe… I swear… it’s not what you think, I would never betray you, baby.”

I slipped slowly to the floor as tears streamed down my cheeks. “You already did, Dane… you already betrayed me… that nightmare was a vision; Dane has betrayed me with Kaida.”

Dane slammed the door. “Please… I will explain everything to you, Aurora.”

I pressed my head between my knees, running my hands through my hair. “Dane, you broke my heart again.” I pressed my eyes shut as I slipped to the ground.

A ray of sunlight flashed in my face, and I blinked. I had fallen asleep on the floor by the door last night. I rubbed my eyes, trying to open them. It hurts. I had cried so much last night that my eyes were red and puffy; they hurt so bad.

I got up from the floor and looked around the room. Where is Dane? He didn’t spend the night here; had he gone back to her? I quickly went to the door and pulled it open. I was about to rush out to find Dane when I almost stumbled over him on the floor.

Dane slept out here until dawn? He sat on the floor with his back resting against the wall. Why? There are so many vacant rooms in the house. Why would the alpha sleep out here where everyone could see him? I looked up and saw a maid walking past; her eyes were on Dane and me.

She bowed and walked past. “Good morning, Luna.” “Good morning,” I greeted the maid, but my eyes were on Dane. He seemed to stir at the sound of my voice.

“Aurora?” he called, opening his eyes and looking around. I shifted, and he turned and saw me. He rushed to his feet and grabbed my arms. “Baby… I was so worried.”

I pushed him away and stormed into the room. He strode after me and closed the door. He grabbed my arms and pulled me to him. “Aurora, talk to me, please.”

I locked eyes with him as he stared down at me with care and affection in his eyes. My heart stung as I wondered if it was real. Is his love for me true? I need to ask him to know… How could he do that to me? He promised never to break my heart again.

I gritted my teeth. I am going to ask him; I definitely will. I will not keep quiet anymore. He has to answer for his heartbreaking betrayal.

“Why?” Only that word came out of my lips as I opened them. The rest of the words in my heart were lost, and I bit my bottom lip as tears streamed down my cheek.

“How could I do that to you?” Dane asked. He shook his head, cupped my face, and wiped away my tears with his thumbs.

I shifted from his reach, and he tried to hold me. He stumbled on the foot of the bed, and we fell onto the bed. I tried to get off him, and he rolled on top of me, holding my hand as he pinned me to the bed. “Babe, please think about it… Am I capable of hurting you?”

“I don’t know what you’re capable of anymore, Dane… after what I saw…”

“Forget about what you saw… let’s talk about what you’re seeing,” he said, holding my gaze. “Look into my eyes and tell me if you think I could cheat on you.”

I swallowed. Looking into his eyes, I could swear Dane wasn’t capable of such an act, but the Dane I saw last night, feeding his eyes on Kaida’s nakedness, was different. I could sense the lust in his eyes. I could see his need, the way he held her hand to his chest. I think it was because we didn’t get a chance to have sex yesterday, to try for a baby, so he decided to have a baby with Kaida instead, like in my nightmare.

He ran to her like a lovesick pup and asked her to undress in front of him. If I had arrived even a minute later, I’m sure I would have caught them having sex. Dane disappointed me badly.

“You can see it, right, Aurora?” Dane asked, brushing my cheeks softly. I nodded. “Yes, I see.” I see that he cheated on me.

“I know you trust me… I know you know me.” Dane pressed his lips to mine, kissing me.

I pressed my hand to his chest, pushing him away. “Get off me!!” I yelled, standing up. Dane raced to hold me, and as he touched me, I shifted and slapped him across the face. “Don’t touch me, Dane Montague.”

Dane glared at me, holding his cheek. He lifted his hand as if to slap me back, and I flinched, crouching to the ground behind the bed. “Don’t hit me… Don’t hit me, please.”

My heart pounded wildly, a heavy knot twisting in my stomach as an unbearable ache settled deep within my chest. I struggled to swallow, the taste of fear thick on my tongue, and my wide, terrified eyes locked onto his, unable to look away. Dane had never lifted his hands to me, even in the past when we weren’t on good terms, but today he wanted to slap me because of Kaida.

Dane shifted closer, bending down. My hands shook as I hid my head between my knees, pressing further into the wall. “Don’t hit me, please…” I muttered. I heard the door open and then slam shut.
