Chapter 118
Christina hesitated, torn between profit and the nagging warnings of her business instincts. Unlike Irene and Leroy, who invested blindly, she understood the need for caution.
"If I were you, I wouldn't play the role of a gullible investor," Andrew interjected.
"Andrew, do you know something?" Christina asked, surprised.
Andrew frowned. "I've already told you the East Side isn't being developed. You've been in business long enough to be wary of such promises. Since when does a few million guarantee hundreds of millions in return? It sounds too good to be true because it is."
Christina's resolve wavered.
"Stop fear-mongering, Andrew. This isn't your business," Irene snapped.
Leroy added, "Christie, why are you even listening to him? Harvey wouldn't trick you."
"Well, Christie, it seems you trust Andrew more than me," Harvey said with feigned disappointment. "Forget I mentioned anything."
"Christie, don't let Harvey's goodwill go to waste," Irene urged anxiously. "He's offering us part of the Weller family's profits!"
Christina reconsidered. The Weller family's connections outweighed Andrew's concerns; Harvey's information seemed reliable.
"I'm sorry for doubting you, Harvey," she said decisively. "Stevens Corporation will invest twelve million dollars."
Andrew gave her a pointed look. "Twelve million? Christina, can Stevens Corporation really afford such a reckless move? Back out now before you regret it."
"Mr. Lloyd, please stay out of my business," Christina replied coldly.
She felt Andrew had overstepped. Using Marvin's influence was one thing, but interfering in Stevens Corporation's affairs was crossing a line. Besides, she was engaged to Harvey; he wouldn't harm the Stevens family. This was a rare opportunity, and Christina wasn't about to let it go.
Andrew sighed, amusement in his eyes. Mark had told him the development was planned for the West Side, not the East Side, as Harvey claimed. However, East or West, it no longer mattered. Andrew knew nobody from the Stevens family would believe him. Christina, too, viewed him with unwarranted suspicion, as some kind of villain. Since they were so eager to jump into the fire, he decided to let them. There was no point in saving those who didn't want saving.
"Andrew, in Christie's honor, why don't I let you in on this opportunity too?" Harvey smirked.
"I'll pass on losing money," Andrew replied. "Go find some other fool to scam."
"Don't let your pride get in the way of making money," Harvey said with mock disappointment. "I know you're worried Christie will look down on you for accepting my help, but there's no shame in making money as a man."
Andrew chuckled. "You should worry about yourself first. I hear you still owe Jayrodale Bank millions."
A cold glint flashed in Harvey's eyes, though his smile never wavered. "Nelson must be spreading lies about me, knowing he's about to get what's coming to him."
