Chapter 1326

With the meal finally over, the Stevens family walked Andrew and Aspen to the hotel entrance. Oscar followed timidly behind them, practically blending into the background.

Aspen waved them off, saying, โ€œMom, Dad, you should head back now. Tomorrow is the Grand Medical Summit. Iโ€™ll come pick you up to watch the competition.โ€

She felt a swell of satisfaction because the dinner had gone well. After all, Andrewโ€™s performance had been perfect the entire night. Though she prided herself on being independent, he had fed her ego by giving her a chance to shine in front of her parents.

However, Esther still appeared concerned. She waved Aspen over and said, โ€œAspen, come here. I want to have a word with you.โ€

Aspen glanced at Andrew, who nodded slightly. Once she received his approval, she stepped aside with Esther and asked, โ€œMom, whatโ€™s wrong?โ€

Esther hesitated for a moment, choosing her words carefully. โ€œAspen, do you believe that Andrew will actually let you go when the time comes?โ€

Aspen fell silent, then finally gave a small nod. โ€œYes, he promised me. He said heโ€™d give me my freedom.โ€

Esther let out a long, relieved breath. โ€œThatโ€™s good to hear. From what I saw today, Andrew seems polite and thoughtful, not at all the kind of person I feared.โ€

Aspen pouted a little, mumbling, โ€œHeโ€™s not a bad guy at all. In fact, heโ€™s been really nice to me.โ€

Esther sighed deeply, her expression turning complicated. โ€œHearing you say that just makes me worry even more.โ€

Aspen was surprised. โ€œHuh? Why?โ€

Esther hesitated, looking her daughter in the eyes. โ€œAspen, have youโ€ฆ developed feelings for Andrew?โ€

Aspen froze, her face first turning a deep shade of red, then quickly paling. She stammered, her voice small and unsteady. โ€œMom, Iโ€“I havenโ€™t!โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re lying!โ€ Esther shouted sternly. โ€œEven at this point, youโ€™re still trying to fool me?โ€

She added, โ€œIโ€™m your motherโ€“you canโ€™t hide it from me. Your father and I both saw the way you looked at him during dinner!โ€

Aspenโ€™s neck flushed pink as she lowered her head, unable to find the words to defend herself.

Esther let out a long, weary sigh, her frustration clear. โ€œWhat a messโ€ฆ what a complete mess. Aspen, you and Andrew arenโ€™t meant to be together, you know that, right?

โ€œDonโ€™t forget how you ended up with him in the first placeโ€”you were forced into becoming his servant! And now, youโ€™re telling me youโ€™ve developed feelings for him? How did things get so twisted?โ€

She pointed a trembling finger at Aspen, her emotions a chaotic swirl of worry and disbelief.

Aspen suddenly lifted her head, biting her lip. โ€œMom, ifโ€ฆ and I mean ifโ€ฆ I really did fall in love with Andrewโ€ฆ would you, Dad, and the whole family support me?โ€

Esther shook her head, her face a mix of worry and disbelief. โ€œSweetheart, this isnโ€™t just about whether we support you or not. Itโ€™s about the fact that Andrew has become someone far beyond our reach.

โ€œI know youโ€™re proud and strong-willed, never one to bow to anyone, but you and himโ€ฆ just donโ€™t belong together. To put it bluntly, our family isnโ€™t in his league. We canโ€™t even hope to match him. No matter how you feel, your father and I will take you back to Bridgefields.โ€

Aspenโ€™s face fell, her tone turning stubborn. โ€œBut what if I donโ€™t want to go back?โ€

Estherโ€™s brows furrowed, her voice sharp. โ€œWhat nonsense are you talking about? Heโ€™s finally letting you go, and youโ€™re telling me you still want to stay with him? Are you out of your mind? And even if youโ€™ve fallen for him, donโ€™t you see? To him, youโ€™re just a passing interest. He obviously has many other women.โ€

That last sentence hit Aspen like a bucket of ice water dumped straight over her head.
