Chapter 14
Francesca glared at Andrew from behind her desk, irritation simmering at his apparent indifference. โDr. Lloyd, do you have anything to say for yourself? Do you admit to Dr. Hackettโs accusations and the violation of hospital policy? If so, you can pack your things and leave. I do not tolerate unruly behavior.โ
Andrew frowned. โDr. Aicker, since you summoned us, I assume you're aware of the situation. Why ask questions you already know the answers to?โ
โYouโฆโ Francescaโs temper flared.
Bernard interjected, โDr. Aicker, look at him! He shows no humility or respect. Heโs a thug! I suggest we fire him immediately and blacklist him from the profession entirely!โ
Andrew replied coldly, โBernard, you and Philip are the true disgrace. How could you lie so blatantly?โ
Bernard turned to Francesca, pleading, โDr. Aicker, heโs unrepentant, insulting us! Iโm the deputy chief! I canโt let a nobody like him damage my reputation. Please, do something!โ
Francesca impatiently cut him off. โEnough. Iโll handle this, Dr. Hackett. You can go now.โ Bernard was stunned. โDr. Aicker, what are youโโ
Francesca interrupted, โI said leave. I will investigate and handle this accordingly. If Dr. Philip is falsely accused, the culprit will face the consequences.โ
Bernard, having already asked Francesca to deal with Andrew, left, believing she would act in accordance with his status.
Once he was gone, Francesca leaned back, her ample chest straining against her coat. โWell, Dr. Lloyd, youโre certainlyโฆ impressive!โ she said sarcastically.
Andrew looked puzzled. โIโm not sure I understand, Dr. Aicker.โ He was baffled by her sudden comment, especially given their lack of prior interaction.
Francesca smirked. โLetโs not play games. We both know what Iโm talking about.โ
Andrew frowned. โDr. Aicker, I genuinely donโt know what you mean. But if youโre referring to Philip and Bernard, my position remains unchanged: they received what they deserved.โ
Francesca slammed her hand on the desk. โAndrew, donโt change the subject! Lauren is my best friend; our families have been close for generations. I donโt care about your personal life, but if youโre pursuing Lauren, I wonโt tolerate it.โ
Andrew, finally understanding the source of her anger, was taken aback. โI think youโve misunderstood. Ms. Rhodes and I have no relationship whatsoever.โ
Francesca scoffed. โLauren might not see through you, but I do. Youโre deliberately trying to attract her attention, arenโt you?โ
Andrew remained impassive. โThatโs absurd.โ
โIs it?โ Francesca continued. โWerenโt you Christina Stevensโโฆcompanion before? You have a certain charm, and Lauren is naive enough to fall for it. But let me warn you, youโre not good enough for her. Not by a long shot.โ
Andrew replied firmly, โIโll say it again: thereโs nothing between Ms. Rhodes and me.โ He had previously respected Francescaโs medical skills, despite her age, but this exchange revealed her as merely a short-tempered, flamboyant woman.
Francesca sneered, โI know there isnโt, and there never will be. Youโre not in her league. Lauren is the heiress of the Rhodes family, a true socialite. Do you have any idea how many people in Jayrodale would kill to be with her?โ
โAnd you,โ she continued, her voice dripping with disdain, โinstead of focusing on your career, youโre chasing women and climbing the social ladder on their coattails. Why be a kept man when youโre a decent doctor?โ
Andrew looked at her gravely. โFrancesca, I think youโre sick.โ
Francesca was stunned. โWhat did you just call me?โ
โI said youโre sick. Seriously sick,โ Andrew replied, his face impassive. โJudging by your temper, Iโd say youโre experiencing some hormonal imbalances.โ
Francescaโs face turned crimson. โAndrew, you bastard! Do you want me to fire you?โ
Andrew shrugged, turning to leave. โGo ahead. This hospital means little to me.โ As he reached the door, he added, โBut as a doctor, I feel obligated to warn you. That conditionโฆ If you donโt treat it soon, you might never experience the joys of intimacy.โ
He slammed the door, leaving a furious Francesca. Her chest heaved with anger and mortification. Then, a realization struck herโhow did Andrew know about her deeply personal medical condition? Had Lauren betrayed her? Vaginal atresia was a rare condition affecting few women, preventing physical intimacy. She was a virgin, resigned to celibacy. How had he learned this?
Composing herself, she muttered, โAndrewโฆ Lauren will probably beg me to keep you. Fine. You can keep your job, but stay away from her. You two are from different worlds.โ
Meanwhile, Bernard sat at Philipโs bedside as he regained consciousness.
Philip, his face contorted with rage, demanded, โDad, you must avenge me! Make Andrew pay. I want him to suffer!โ
Bernard tried to calm his son. โPhil, I told you to cause a little trouble to get rid of Andrew. But you went too far. What were you thinking, harassing that nurse?โ
Philip explained, livid, โIโve had my eye on Nyla. I knew she had a crush on Andrew, so I used her to set him up. Once he intervened, Iโd accuse him of assault, and you could have him fired.โ He grew more agitated. โI didnโt expect him to fight back. He crossed the line by hurting myโฆmember, and I wonโt let him get away with it!โ
Bernard frowned. โYou let your hormones cloud your judgment. But donโt worry, that punk wonโt get away with this. Iโve pressured Francesca. If sheโs smart, sheโll know what to do.โ
Francescaโs assistant entered. โDr. Hackett, Iโm here to relay Dr. Aickerโs decision. Effective immediately, Philip is fired for misconduct and violating hospital policies.โ
The news struck Philip and Bernard like a thunderbolt. Philip screamed before passing out again.
