Lauren’s heart sank, but her face remained cold and distant. She declared firmly, “No one has the right to decide about my marriage except me.”

Michael let out a scornful laugh. “I knew you’d resist, but it’s pointless. This arranged marriage has been approved by the head of the family and the Rhodes Corporation board. You have no choice.”

With a mocking glance, Michael walked away.

Lauren sat back, feeling helpless. She mumbled, “Even after everything, I still can’t escape being a stepping stone for the family’s expansion…” Her gaze flashed with determination. “The Driscoll family might be powerful, but I refuse to accept this arrangement!”

However, the light in her eyes quickly dimmed. She let out a bitter laugh, wondering aloud, “What about his feelings for me? These past few days, he’s been completely focused on Christina, ignoring me. Perhaps Michael was right—I foolishly misread everything.”

Meanwhile, Michael stormed back to his office, his face dark with anger. He slammed the door and violently threw an ashtray across the room.

A sinister-looking elderly man in black sat on the couch, legs crossed. He asked coldly, “Mr. Rhodes, what has you so worked up?”

Michael barked, “I can’t stand Lauren anymore! I’m running out of patience. I need to seize control of Rhodes Corporation and get rid of her. Only then can I make her pay for humiliating me.”

Bane replied calmly, “That girl has always been headstrong, and you shouldn’t have provoked her. But don’t worry, Mr. Rhodes. Your time to take over Rhodes Corporation will come soon enough.”

Michael’s eyes lit up. “Oh? Have you found a way to bring Lauren down, Bane?”

Bane scoffed. “That girl is sharp. Forgive me, Mr. Rhodes, but she’s far more clever than you. Taking her down in one shot won’t be easy. However, she’s still young, and with my help, she’ll eventually make a serious mistake. Rhodes Pharmaceutical’s annual supply run is coming up—that’s our opportunity.”

Michael’s mind raced as he observed Bane’s cunning smile. “Are you suggesting we strike while Lauren’s handling the supply transaction?”

Bane replied smugly, “Exactly! Rhodes Pharmaceutical sources new medical supplies from rural vendors. It’s a crucial business she’ll oversee personally. Once she leaves for the rural suppliers, security will be lighter. The remote location will allow your men to ensure her complete failure.”

Michael’s smile widened until he burst into maniacal laughter. “Perfect! It’s time to teach that bitch a lesson. It’s just too bad that Andrew survived. Tony’s dead, but that guy made it through!”
