Chapter 172

Unfortunately for Harvey, his troubles were far from over. Immediately after Andrew had rebuked him, Leroy launched another attack.

“Harvey, I need an answer now. When are you paying back the money you borrowed?” Leroy's tone was aggressive, a stark contrast to his usual sycophantic demeanor.

“Leroy, considering my relationship with Christie, what’s a few million between family? I could repay you instantly,” Harvey retorted, his patience fraying.

Leroy extended his hand, demanding, “Great, then pay me now.”

Harvey was furious but powerless. He lacked the funds to repay Leroy, and the weight of his other debts threatened to force him to sell everything.

Leroy mocked, “Harvey, you’re the Weller family heir, aspiring to marry Christie. If you can’t manage a few million, what makes you think you’re worthy of her?”

Humiliation washed over Harvey. Never before had Jayrodale's golden boy been so cornered. The situation was further complicated by his inability to retaliate against Christina's brother.

“Leroy, give me time. I promise to repay you, Mrs. Stevens, and Christina,” Harvey pleaded, offering empty promises to buy time.

Leroy remained unconvinced. “Oh, please! I see right through you, Harvey. All talk—a pretty face with no substance. You’ll just borrow more money to repay me. Why not ask Andrew? He’s rich now, and he’s right here.”

“You expect me to borrow from him? Do you think someone of my status would stoop so low?” Harvey felt deeply insulted.

Leroy shrugged. “That’s not my concern. Honestly, I’d prefer Andrew as a brother-in-law. You’re a broke fraud, Harvey. The Stevens family must have been blind to consider you.”

The blatant disrespect enraged Harvey. “Leroy, are you looking down on me?”

Christina intervened, sensing the escalation. “Leroy, that’s enough! If Harvey can’t pay now, stop pressing him.”

Leroy argued, “So we just let him get away with this? The Weller family claims to be so powerful in Jayrodale, but he’s a con man who took your money and tried to steal your heart. He’s useless.”

Christina stated firmly, “Let’s put this aside. If anyone’s to blame, it’s me. I should have been more careful.”

Leroy then abruptly shifted his attention to Andrew. “Andrew, I apologize for my previous behavior. I know you still have feelings for Christina, and you two would be perfect. Why not rekindle your relationship?”

His face was eager, almost desperate, as he smiled ingratiatingly at Andrew. “Sorry, I’m not interested,” Andrew replied coldly.

“Come on, Andrew,” Leroy persisted. “You have money, power, and status. You and Christina would be perfect together.”
