Chapter 2434
โWell then, Ms. Theron, Iโll take my leave and let you two talk.โ Uriel glanced at Andrew before turning to walk out.
Andrew ignored him, frowning slightly as he looked toward the curtain. Everyone said the Reyes familyโs upper ranks were strange and unpredictable, people whose behavior could not be measured by common sense or logic.
Among the major houses in Chetvine, none were more mysterious or morally gray than the Reyes family. And the force behind them, the Umbral Peak Sect, was practically the definition of evil.
Elaine was certainly living up to that reputation.
By right, Andrew was just a guest, a stranger even. Elaine had no reason to stay alone with him, especially since certain factions in Chetvine already had issues with him.
Some people probably turned red with anger just at the mention of his name.
Yet, his woman was being all mysterious and secretive, and Andrew had no idea what she was up to. Still, it did not really matter. Since he was already here, he would roll with whatever came.
As if sensing Andrewโs wariness, Elaine chuckled softly again, her voice tender and melodious. โYou donโt need to be nervous. I wonโt eat you.โ
Andrew said flatly, โIโm not nervous. I just want to ask if you have any advice for me. If not, Iโd like to discuss the purpose of my visit with you.โ
Her voice turned cold. โNo rush. What interests me most is you and your father. The rest doesnโt concern me much.โ
Andrewโs heart skipped a beat. He silently wondered if Reginald had some messy connection with one of Finneganโs favorites, too. Judging by her tone, she sounded like she wanted to dig into his fatherโs news.
Just like Tiana and Victoria had before.
If that was the case, then it spelled trouble. Nothing good ever came from people chasing after Reginaldโs shadow. It usually led to grudges, anger, and a great deal of misplaced blame directed at him.
Andrew was not afraid of trouble, but any chance of making a deal with the Reyes family would go up in smoke.
While he was quietly thinking about how to handle the situation, Elaine spoke again. โYou really do look like your father. Almost too much, actually.โ
Andrew did not know what to say, so he forced a smile. โYeah, people always say we look alike.โ
From behind the curtain came a soft, almost playful correction. โNo, you and Reginald arenโt actually alike, not in the real sense. You just look like him, because you carry his blood. But what fascinates me is you.
โLike must be replaced by like. Youโre different, though. Your father was a giant, and your mother was an even greater one. The child born of their unionโฆ is a being beyond imagination. I suspect youโre not just a giantโฆ Youโre a child of God himself.โ
She added, โYouโre far more captivating than Reginald ever was. I never lie. Your very existence is an anomalyโฆโ
Her laughter at the end was light and coy, almost shy. It was as if she were embarrassed yet delighted all the same.
Andrew was utterly confused now.
So what was it with this woman? Was she his fatherโs old flame, or was her genuine interest in him?
