Chapter 400

As they entered the treatment room, they found a young girl suffering from a persistent high fever and intermittent chills. Bernard was treating her with several nurses, but his frustrated expression suggested he was struggling with the case.

โ€œDr. Aicker, whatโ€™s the meaning of this?โ€ Bernard asked unhappily when he saw Andrew. โ€œThis patient is under my care.โ€

โ€œWhen it comes to saving lives, it doesnโ€™t matter whoโ€™s in chargeโ€“what matters is helping the patients,โ€ Francesca replied coolly.

โ€œDr. Aicker, are you saying Iโ€™m incompetent because I havenโ€™t cured this child yet?โ€ Bernard snapped angrily.

Before the situation could escalate further, a well-dressed man with graying hairโ€”the girlโ€™s fatherโ€”interrupted anxiously. โ€œDr. Aicker, can you treat Lucy or not? If not, Iโ€™ll transfer her immediately. We canโ€™t waste any more time.โ€

Before Francesca could respond, Bernard quickly put on a pleasant smile. โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Mr. Chapman. Lucy likely has a viral infection. Iโ€™ll identify the virus and prescribe appropriate medication right away!โ€

โ€œThat doesnโ€™t make sense,โ€ Marcus Chapman said worriedly. โ€œLucy has been staying in our villa, and our housekeeper is perfectly fine. How could she get infected?โ€

With a patronizing smile, Bernard explained, โ€œMr. Chapman, children have weaker immune systems. This is quite normal. Please rest while I cure her immediately!โ€

Andrew observed the interaction, noting that Marcus was likely an important business executive, given Bernardโ€™s deferential attitude. However, he could not stay silent about the misdiagnosis.

โ€œThis isnโ€™t a viral infection,โ€ Andrew stated firmly. โ€œBlindly prescribing medication without identifying the real cause will only worsen things.โ€

โ€œDr. Lloyd, are you trying to tell me how to do my job?โ€ Bernard sneered.

Marcus turned to Francesca with interest. โ€œDr. Aicker, is this gentleman also a chief physician here?โ€

โ€œYes, Mr. Chapman. Dr. Lloyd is our deputy chief,โ€ Francesca replied with a smile.

โ€œDr. Lloyd, if itโ€™s not a viral infection, what is it?โ€ Marcus asked eagerly.

โ€œYour villa is in the countryside, isnโ€™t it?โ€ Andrew asked instead. โ€œSurrounded by vegetation or farmland, with lots of mosquitoes?โ€

Marcusโ€™ eyes widened in surprise. โ€œThatโ€™s exactly right. Our villa is on the rural outskirts of Jayrodale, surrounded by farmland. But what does that have to do with Lucyโ€™s condition?โ€

โ€œEverything,โ€ Andrew explained. โ€œLucy has malaria from a mosquito bite. If your villa were in the city, there wouldnโ€™t be as many mosquitoes, which is why I made that connection.โ€

Marcus looked at Andrew with newfound respect. โ€œIโ€™ll admit I initially underestimated you because of your youth, but now I understand why youโ€™re a deputy chief. Youโ€™re truly brilliant for your age!โ€
