Chapter 69
Lauren clapped her hands excitedly. โDr. Lloyd, youโre amazing! Number Seven actually won!โ
Her joyful laughter darkened the faces of Harvey, Bernard, and their group. Mark, however, remained composed and smiled.
โDonโt be discouraged, everyone. Such is the thrill of horse racingโyou never know who the dark horse will be until the very end!โ
The mayorโs words elicited immediate agreement from the crowd. โWell said, Mr. Thatcher!โ โAbsolutely, Mr. Thatcher! Anyone could be the dark horse!โ โYour insights are truly remarkable!โ โLetโs get ready for the next round. The game isnโt over yet! Stick with Mr. Thatcher, and weโll be in the winnerโs circle!โ
For the next race, Mark confidently selected Number Five. Lauren turned to Andrew and asked, โDr. Lloyd, which horse should we choose?โ
โLetโs go with Number One,โ Andrew replied casually.
Bernard couldnโt resist a sarcastic comment. โAndrew, are you deliberately going against Mr. Thatcherโs picks? Canโt you see how many people trust his judgment?โ
Mark raised his hand, interrupting Bernard. โBernard, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.โ He then turned to Andrew with an amused smile. โYoung man, you seem experienced. Letโs see if your luck holds up this time.โ
Andrew smiled calmly. โMr. Thatcher, if youโre still betting on Number Five, Iโd suggest changing your pickโthat horse wonโt win.โ
The crowd erupted in anger. โHow dare you question Mr. Thatcherโs judgment!โ โWho do you think you are?โ โYouโll regret your arrogance!โ
Mark maintained his composure, simply laughing it off. โI appreciate young people with different perspectives, but Iโm confident about this race.โ
As the gates opened and the horses charged forward, Markโs pick, Number Five, started strong. However, midway through the race, it stumbled, throwing its rider and falling out of contention.
Meanwhile, Andrewโs choice, Number One, powered through like a bulldozer. Initially in third place, it surged forward near the finish line, overtaking the lead with ease to claim victory. โDr. Lloyd, youโre incredible! We won again!โ Lauren cheered.
Andrew smiled at her genuine excitement. Harvey, Dexter, and Bernard stood silent, their faces grim. Mark stared in disbelief as Number Five was carried off the track with a broken leg, and he sighed heavily.
โSuch is life. One moment youโre on top, the next youโre struggling through hardship,โ Mark commented.
Bernard couldnโt accept defeat. โMr. Thatcher, letโs try one more race. Everyone knows youโre the best at horse racing in Jayrodale.โ
โThatโs right,โ Harvey and his group chimed in. โA couple of races doesnโt mean anything. Please lead us to victory again, Mr. Thatcher!โ
Encouraged by their support, Mark laughed heartily. โVery well, Iโll join you for one more race. Victory comes to those who persevere!โ
โSuch inspiring words!โ โWith this spirit, victory is certain!โ โNothing could stop Mr. Thatcher this time!โ
The crowd cheered and applauded enthusiastically, seemingly trying to erase the memory of their two consecutive losses with sheer volume.
