Chapter 93
“I wonder if this executive is a man or a woman,” Leroy mused dreamily. “If it’s a woman, I wouldn’t mind being with her, even if she’s older.”
Christina frowned. “As a Stevens, is that all you aspire to? Besides, do you really think a Wealthroller Investments executive would be interested in you?”
Leroy looked hurt. “Mom, look! Christie doesn’t respect my ambitions. These days, charm is a valuable skill! Look at Andrew—he’s living off that rich Rhodes girl. Honestly, I’m jealous!”
Irene nodded. “Christie, Leroy isn’t wrong. Money and status are hard to come by. If a female executive from Wealthroller Investments takes a liking to him, I’d support it.”
Christina sighed, weary of her family’s perspective. She was determined, however, to prevent her brother from becoming like Andrew; she considered a man living off women's wealth unacceptable.
Andrew arrived at the orphanage. Seeing Christina’s family, Irene scoffed. “Andrew, you’re everywhere! Wherever Christie goes, you’re there. Don’t you have any self-respect?”
Christina frowned, wondering why he was following them.
Leroy barked, “Get lost, Andrew. You’re annoying, and you and Christie have no future!”
Owen Maloney, a Wealthroller Investments executive, approached with a cold expression. “Ms. Stevens, what’s the meaning of this? Are you trying to sabotage our partnership?”
“Mr. Maloney, what do you mean?” Christina asked, bewildered.
Irene attempted to defuse the situation with a nervous laugh. “Mr. Maloney, we were just… dismissing an annoying pest.”
“The only pest I see is you!” Owen exploded. “This is Mr. Andrew Lloyd, the project director I told you about!”
The Stevens family froze. It was unbelievable that Andrew, whom they considered a gold digger, was a senior executive at Wealthroller Investments.
Leroy exclaimed, “Mr. Maloney, there must be a mistake! This guy was living off Christie. He can’t be a Wealthroller executive!”
Owen slapped Leroy. “How dare you disrespect Mr. Lloyd! The project is canceled—you can all leave!”
Turning to Andrew, Owen bowed apologetically, his legs trembling. “Mr. Lloyd, I’m so sorry for bringing you here. This was all Mr. Yates’ arrangement.” Owen’s rage simmered; these insignificant people had insulted someone even Marvin respected. They must have been courting disaster.
