Chapter 95
“This doesn’t make sense,” Bernard muttered. “Mr. Thatcher is in his prime, and my team monitors his health constantly. How could he fall ill so suddenly?” As Mark’s personal physician, the incident weighed heavily on him.
Harvey confidently announced, “I’ve already called Dr. Aicker; he can surely help.”
Someone remarked, “Smart move, Mr. Weller. If Dr. Aicker saves Mr. Thatcher, the Wellers will certainly gain his favor.”
Another person nodded. “Exactly. If Mr. Thatcher recovers, the credit will surely go to Mr. Weller and his family.”
Despite his secret satisfaction, Harvey maintained a serious expression. “Mr. Thatcher is our mayor, and it’s only natural for me to help. I wouldn’t dare have any ulterior motives.”
The mayor’s family expressed sincere thanks to Harvey, while Bernard watched with a cynical smile. He saw through the young Weller’s scheme—everyone sought the mayor’s gratitude by saving his life. Harvey’s pretense of selflessness was a mere façade. Bernard, however, felt bitter, knowing he couldn't treat Mark himself.
Just then, Cedric arrived and began examining Mark, while everyone waited hopefully.
“Well, Harvey, you got here quickly,” Lauren remarked upon her arrival, her smile lacking genuine warmth. “You must have rushed over as soon as Mr. Thatcher fell ill.”
Harvey replied smoothly, “Likewise, Lauren. But you’re a little too late. I’ve already called Dr. Aicker.”
Lauren smiled. “The Rhodes can’t compete with your family’s efficiency. And Harvey, you’re one of Jayrodale’s finest young talents. This favor will surely belong to the Wellers.”
Harvey detected sarcasm in her praise. “Sounds like you have another card to play, eh?”
Lauren didn't deny it, simply saying, “Let’s wait for Dr. Aicker’s assessment. If he can’t help, my man will take over.”
Harvey smirked. “Lauren, we’re both from prominent families, so let’s be frank. I’ve brought Dr. Aicker himself, and Mr. Thatcher will surely recover. Your backup plan, whoever it is, would just be making a fool of themselves.”
Surprisingly, Lauren remained calm. “Is that so? You seem very confident, Harvey. But remember, he who laughs last, laughs best.”
Harvey mocked, “I know you’re counting on that gold-digger, Andrew. Honestly, I don’t understand it. He’s just a basic doctor who can give shots and prescribe cold medicine. What makes you think he has the skills to treat Mr. Thatcher’s condition? You’re too infatuated with that freeloader.”
Lauren’s face turned cold. “Harvey, we can discuss business, but don’t you dare insult Dr. Lloyd, or you’ll regret it.”
