The next morning, the trio set out on their aquarium adventure bright and early to beat the crowds. Keeley couldn't remember the last time she'd been to one; probably when her mom and Kaleb were still alive.

Undersea life was both strange and beautiful. Watching the colorful fish and other sea creatures glide peacefully through the water was very relaxing. It helped her forget the worries she couldn't quite leave behind in New York.

Her favorite exhibit was the one imitating a tropical rainforest. She wasn't sure why aquariums included such exhibits, but they often did. The last aquarium she visited had snow leopards, for some reason.

Keisha's favorite was the tunnel under the shark tank. Sharks and other fish swam right above their heads, which was both amazing and a little scary. Jeffrey preferred the jellyfish exhibit.

They all took many pictures at each exhibit. Keeley took some of the engaged couple, and they, in turn, took solo shots of her. To get everyone in a picture, they had to ask strangers for help; selfies wouldn't capture the tanks properly.

After leaving the aquarium, they wandered around the historic ships for a while. Some dated from the mid-1800s, which was incredible considering they were still afloat after more than 150 years.

There was also a submarine. Kaleb had always wanted to go inside one but never had the chance. Keeley took a picture for him, hoping he'd see it.

It was a lovely day until they went to a seafood restaurant near the harbor, and Keeley had to run to the bathroom to vomit. The smell of fish made her gag.

Keisha followed a few minutes later. "You okay in there?" she called from the other side of the stall door.

"I'll let you know when I—" Keeley had to cut herself off to vomit again. "Gross. Stop puking."

"Did you eat something bad earlier? We haven't even gotten our food yet."

"No," she said miserably. "All I had this morning was a granola bar and an apple."

Keisha hummed thoughtfully before asking, "Do you feel sick anywhere else? You were fine a few minutes ago."

"No. I suddenly had to vomit because the fish smelled horrible."

"The fish smelled horri—girl, are you pregnant?!" Keisha exclaimed in disbelief.

Keeley's face drained of color. It wasn't possible. She and Aaron had only had intercourse once, and she'd taken the morning-after pill!

"No…I took the pill after…I can't be," Keeley mumbled before retching again.

"When did you take it?"

She thought back. She'd planned to take it right after work that Monday, but Ryan had gotten in the way…she hadn't taken it until Tuesday night. She'd missed the 24-hour window. It was within 72 hours, but did that make a difference?

"About 36 hours later."

Keisha gasped. "Oh honey, those pills are 95% effective in the first 24 hours, but after that, it drops to 89%, and after 72 hours, it doesn't work at all."

So she had an 11% chance of being pregnant? That was small, and yet…

"I think I need a pregnancy test. Right now," she said weakly.

"Okay, open the door, and I'll help you. This is a girl emergency; we don't need to explain it to Jeff. I'll tell him we're going out for a while."

Keeley teared up. "Thank you."

Her nausea subsided, so she shakily stood and washed her hands. A glance in the mirror showed her she looked terrible. There was no use stressing yet. This might just be a coincidence.

Keisha put a protective arm around her as they left the restaurant and headed back towards town. A drugstore was a few blocks away.

She bought a box of three pregnancy tests and put it in her purse. Keeley followed numbly.

The last time she'd taken a pregnancy test was about two years after getting married in her first life. They'd been trying for a baby for three months when she finally missed her period. She'd been so excited to see those two blue lines. Now, she felt sick.

This couldn't be happening. 11%. There was no way she was that much of a statistical anomaly. Except…she'd already been reborn, and the chances of that happening were far less than 11%. Statistics weren't in her favor.

They reached the house before Jeffrey, and Keisha ushered Keeley into the bathroom with a paper cup for easier testing. Waiting for the results was the most stressful three minutes of both their lives.

Keeley was grateful she wasn't alone. Keisha's arms were around her as they peered at the tests.

Pregnant. Unsure. Pregnant.

Two of the three tests showed clear results. Keeley's knees buckled, and Keisha caught her before she hit the counter.

"Calm down," Keisha said. "Deep breaths. It's going to be okay. Let's get you on the couch, and we'll figure out what to do."

Do? What else could she do? After her baby was traumatically aborted without her consent and her reproductive organs removed, she wouldn't take a life for granted. She had to give birth.

Keeley had wanted to be a mother eventually. The problem was Aaron. He'd be thrilled, but he'd also want to marry her immediately.

She didn't want that, did she? Hadn't she been fighting against her old life as Mrs. Hale? Logically, she knew Aaron had changed, but she was terrified of returning to the way things were.

She couldn't go through all of that again: the stares, the whispers, the constant judgment. He said he'd leave high society for her, but could he really escape it? What about his parents? He couldn't hide her forever! (The final sentence about a website is inappropriate and has been removed.)
