Listen to this chapter:

Aaron couldn't help but commend his acting skills. Gray seemed utterly unsuspicious of the evidence's origin. He wouldn't have acted that way on the phone otherwise.

He and Keeley had discussed this possibility. Even in a worst-case scenario, even if a good lawyer reduced his sentence, Gray wouldn't be acquitted. He no longer had a valid alibi and wasn't near the crime scene.

He sincerely hoped the police would prove premeditation. Then Gray would be out of their hair for at least 20 years. After that, they'd cross that bridge when they came to it.

He'd already contacted Neal Ashley, giving him a simplified version. The lawyer shouldn't know more than Aaron supposedly did at the precinct. He relayed only Gray's phone conversation.

They had an arrest, but a conviction could take time, especially if it went to trial. Knowing his brother, Aaron doubted it would. Gray would realize he was cornered and likely plead guilty for a lighter sentence.

So, what now?

All his enemies were dealt with, leaving Aaron unsure what to do. Lacy was dead. His father was so humiliated he'd likely never appear in public again. Gray would be in jail for a long time.

Max Lynch and Dr. Rothman remained. But Max hadn't been involved in Lacy's schemes since the high school drugging incident (Aiden had checked), and he was a shadow of his former self now that Lacy was gone. Perhaps he'd been punished enough.

As for Dr. Rothman, the malpractice suit was covered up, not expunged. Aaron could force it back into the spotlight, likely resulting in Rothman's dismissal from his prestigious hospital and difficulty finding new employment.

Was it sufficient punishment? No, but Aaron felt merciful. It was probably his happiness.

Brann Knighton's only child was dead. He needed no further punishment.

Aaron still wasn't sure what to do. Besides Aiden spearheading a new company project, he couldn't think of any major changes to implement. The global expansion was already underway.

He hadn't become CEO for another six years in his first life. How much more growth could he implement in that time?

Altering things too early could disrupt the company's progression. He knew of upcoming major financial events, but how could he react if the situation changed?

Aaron would have to plan carefully. Hale Investments boomed in the 2020s and 2030s. He needed to find actions that wouldn't negatively affect that boom but still benefit the company.

Keeley was right; he was a workaholic. He was better than before, but he thrived on business challenges. It was all he knew.

Waiting six years without actively working toward expansion would be dull. He needed to find something that wouldn't overly affect future events.

Unfortunately, by the end of the workday, Aaron still had no ideas. He dismissed his concerns. It was family time.

Keeley was making dinner when he arrived home. He snuck up on her, spun her around, and she shrieked, then laughed.

"Don't scare me like that," she scolded. "Why do you always sneak up on me?"

"Because it's fun," he grinned.

Aaron hadn't felt free enough to enjoy his wife's company in his first life, but now nothing held him back. He could be goofy or lovesick without restriction.

Besides, her reactions were fun. When she rolled her eyes, the light reflected off her irises, revealing flecks of gold. She was so beautiful.

He kissed her long and deeply; she responded eagerly before pushing him away.

"I'd like to eat sometime today," Keeley smirked. "If you had your way, dinner would never get done."

Aaron couldn't deny it. He loved kissing his wife.

He went to the living room, picked up both babies, and brought them to the kitchen to be surrounded by his family. They giggled at his arrival.

"So, tell me about your day," he said, bouncing the twins.

Keeley shrugged. "Like any other day. Lots of diaper changes. Kaleb was fussy; I think he's teething. I bought teething rings, and he calmed down."

"You weren't mobbed again?"

"No. The gossip moved on, oddly enough."

Aaron knew why. News of Gray's arrest reached him before the phone call. Gray was taken away in a restaurant; diners posted about it. Graydon Meyer was trending.

Another thing to be oddly grateful to that terrifying man for. Keeley finally had peace. After everything, they were finally even. It was over.

Well, not entirely. Gray would probably expect visits. It would be annoying, but less so than a bad relationship if he were released. Aaron wanted to stay on Gray's good side.
