Listen to this chapter:

Jennica had a day off from rehearsals, so she went to Keeley's house to help with the babies. Her musical was starting in two weeks and, barring a major success, would run for four months. She wanted to spend time with her friend before things got hectic.

She had to admit, Violet and Kaleb made her baby-hungry. They were adorable and relatively well-behaved infants. Jennica wasn't sure if they were naturally calm or if it was Keeley and Aaron's excellent parenting.

The babies were spoiled, though. They only cried (besides hunger or needing diaper changes) when they wanted to be held. Giving them attention immediately stopped their crying, like flipping a switch.

"If all babies were as chill as yours, more people would want kids," Jennica said, laughing as she bounced Kaleb on her knees.

Keeley smiled. "My dad keeps telling me to wait until they're toddlers and that I shouldn't get complacent."

That was fair. Jennica's brother, Benny, was adorable but could also be a terror. Chasing after him was fun for a while, but Jennica was always relieved to hand him back to Alison to handle any real problems.

Once she became a mother, there would be no one to hand a toddler back to. Cameron was an option, but he usually worked. However, if Keeley could manage two babies while Aaron was at the office, she could handle one.

Jennica wanted to get pregnant, but needed to wait until after her musical. Keeley's morning sickness had been severe; a similar experience during a performance would be disastrous. She could only imagine the negative reviews.

This show needed to go well for her resume. Unlike movie stars, stage actors weren't expected to remain young and beautiful forever. Many famous stage actors didn't get their big breaks until their 30s or later.

Knowing this, she was content taking a break from auditioning to raise a baby for a few years. Honestly, it didn't even matter if she ever made it big; Cameron's job covered their bills.

Jennica could act now because she loved it. When she'd had to pay her own way, she'd taken many jobs she disliked just to make ends meetโ€”like dinner theater; ugh. She shuddered at the memory.

"Do you think they take after you or Aaron more?" she asked, needing to stay on topic.

"Aside from Violet's hair, they look much more like my baby pictures than Aaron's," Keeley replied.

Imagining Aaron as a baby was difficult. She'd seen glimpses of his lighter side since he and Keeley married, but he was still intimidating. Jennica had never seen him laugh. Did he even know how?

She sometimes wondered how her cheerful, goofy friend ended up with him. It was baffling. She and Cameron had speculated more than once.

He was more surprised Aaron was interested in Keeley than vice versa. This was likely because they each knew their friends well. Cameron had seen more of Aaron's reserved side, while Jennica knew how much Keeley disliked her ex-boyfriend.

Initially, Jennica worried Aaron had forced Keeley to marry him. However, seeing her friend's happiness and relaxed demeanor around her husband eased her concerns. Keeley teased him, and unlike with Cameron or Aiden, he didn't seem annoyed; he seemed to enjoy it.

Their relationship was bizarre. No one knew what to make of it. But it didn't matter; Keeley and Aaron were happy, in love, and had two beautiful children. Things worked out for them, regardless of unanswered questions.

"I wonder if they'll look more like him as they grow," Jennica mused.

Keeley shrugged. "They might. Or our next child might be his mini-me. Who knows?"

"You plan on having more?" Jennica asked.

"Oh yeah, I've always wanted a bunch of kids. What about you? How many do you want?"

Cameron came from a large family, but didn't want to repeat the chaos of his childhood. However, he wanted more than one child so they could have siblings.

Jennica thought that was excellent. Two children would be perfect; her childhood had been enjoyable with just Brian.

"Probably two. I don't have as much energy as you do," she chuckled.

Keeley smiled. "Nothing wrong with that! It'll be fun raising our kids together. I never had cousins, and Kaleb and Violet won't either, so close family friends are the next best thing."

Despite her smile, a sadness was evident. She was likely thinking of her brother, who hadn't lived to see his niece or nephew. Jennica only knew that Keeley's mother and brother had died before she finished high school.

It was amazing how cheerful she remained. Jennica couldn't imagine her own reaction to losing her mother (Anna usually drove her crazy), but losing Brianโ€ฆ

She worried about him sometimes, as he was in the military. He'd been on numerous deployments, and nothing had ever happened. There was no need to worry; he'd likely be fine.
