Chapter 107 Donโ€™t Even Dream About It

Freya was the first to react. โ€œMeryl had some family matters to attend to, so she took the afternoon off.โ€

โ€œHmm,โ€ Chandler responded coolly. He casually flipped through a document on Merylโ€™s desk, then took it with him as he left.

Seeing this, they finally understood.

They thought Chandler had come looking for Meryl simply for work-related reasons.

Once Chandler was out of earshot, Lisha placed her coffee cup on the table and said in a mocking tone, โ€œTook the afternoon off? Sheโ€™s probably playing hard to get. Mr. Aniston obviously doesnโ€™t care about her, yet she shamelessly keeps trying to get close to him. Pathetic.โ€

Freya frowned and retorted, โ€œMs. Walsh, thatโ€™s really harsh. Itโ€™s called courageously pursuing love.โ€

โ€œCourageously pursuing love?โ€ Lisha sneered.

โ€œSheโ€™s making a complete fool of herself, and by extension, making us look bad too. People might start thinking that weโ€™re all just trying to seduce our boss to climb the ladder, thanks to her. Sheโ€™s setting a terrible example.โ€

Josh interjected, โ€œEven if people are talking, theyโ€™re only talking about her. No oneโ€™s saying a word about the rest of us in the executive office. Ms. Walsh, youโ€™re exaggerating.โ€

Lishaโ€™s face darkened. โ€œOh, so Division Two is ganging up on me now, is that it?โ€

Josh and Freya exchanged helpless glances. Lisha had been with the executive office the longest, and she often relied on her seniority to assert herself. They usually tried to avoid clashing with her.

Medea stepped in to diffuse the situation. โ€œAlright, alright, everyone calm down. Letโ€™s all say a little less and start wrapping things up. The workdayโ€™s almost over.โ€

Meryl had taken the afternoon off to return to the Stone Villa.

The fuss she had caused with her public confession to Chandler had blown up, and the whole social circle was buzzing with gossip.

There were only a few days left before Lydiaโ€™s wedding, and Bianca had been busy making preparations.

But thanks to Merylโ€™s sudden pursuit of Chandler, they had become the subject of ridicule.

Now, even when Bianca went out, she was met with whispers and judgmental stares.

Just as the scandal of Lydia stealing her sisterโ€™s fiancรฉ had begun to fade, Merylโ€™s actions had brought it all back to the surface.

People were again saying that Lydia was shameless and that Meryl had gone mad from the shock.

โ€œWhy on earth did you have to go and provoke Chandler? Do you think you can afford to mess with him?โ€

Bianca stood in the living room, her face cold as she saw Meryl walk in. โ€œNot only are you embarrassing yourself, but youโ€™re dragging our whole family down with you. Do you have any idea what people are saying about you out there?โ€

Meryl had barely stepped inside before being met with Biancaโ€™s scolding.

She walked over to the couch and sat down. โ€œIโ€™m hungry. Didnโ€™t you call me back to eat? Whereโ€™s the food?โ€

โ€œYou still have an appetite?โ€ Bianca almost jumped out of her skin, infuriated by Merylโ€™s nonchalant attitude, as if she hadnโ€™t taken her words seriously at all.

โ€œWhy wouldnโ€™t I have an appetite?โ€

Meryl replied calmly, looking at Bianca. โ€œLook at you, getting all worked up. I confess my feelings to Chandler, and youโ€™re so scared you canโ€™t eat? If I actually marry Chandler, would you be so terrified youโ€™d be shaking in your boots?โ€

The moment Meryl said this, Biancaโ€™s expression changed.

โ€œYou want to marry Chandler? Donโ€™t even dream about it.โ€

Bianca thought to herself, โ€œMeryl is getting more and more delusional. Chandler isnโ€™t someone you can just marry on a whim. A man of such immense power, who countless wealthy families will kill to form an alliance with. And Chandler, who remained untainted by scandal, exuded an air of restraint and possessed stunning good looks. He is the dream man of many women. How could such good fortune possibly fall into Merylโ€™s lap?โ€

Lydia, who had been peeling an orange nearby, tilted her head slightly and looked at Meryl with an innocent expression.

โ€œMeryl, even if youโ€™re upset, you shouldnโ€™t mess with Chandler. Just yesterday, I was telling Dalton that youโ€™d be my bridesmaid the day after tomorrow. Itโ€™ll be like a dream come true, walking down the aisle with Dalton. Please stop causing scenes after that, to avoid further embarrassment.โ€

Meryl almost burst out laughing. โ€œWhat did you say? You want me to be your bridesmaid? Lydia, youโ€™ve got some nerve. Arenโ€™t you afraid your wedding might turn into a funeral?โ€
