Chapter 254 I Was Faking It
Meryl thought, โCall you โDadโ? Do you even deserve that?โ
Chandler had everyone leave, using Merylโs need for rest as an excuse. Malcolm wanted to say something but swallowed his words when he saw Chandlerโs icy expression. Dalton, who was lost in thought, had to be physically dragged out by Lydia.
Meryl, remembering that Chandler and Anne hadnโt rested well the night before, quickly urged, โYou all go get some sleep. Iโm fine here.โ
Half an hour later, Chandler had to attend the annual company meeting. He had no choice but to leave for now.
โIโll come back this afternoon once Iโm done,โ Chandler said, tucking her blanket in.
As he turned to leave, he noticed Dante still hanging around. Chandler hesitated, then said, โYouโฆโ
Dante quickly responded, โIโm stepping outside for a smoke. Anne, I need to talk to you. Iโll be waiting in the hallway.โ
The two left the room together, and Anne shut the door behind them, her face hardening. โSo Dante actually found his way to the hospital!โ
Considering that Anne might still be unaware of the situation with Lola, Meryl whispered, โMaybe Dante has something important to discuss. Itโs best if the two of you talk things through.โ
Merylโs gaze fell on Anneโs belly. โBesides, the babyโฆ isnโt gone yet, right? Youโre keeping the baby becauseโฆ you canโt bear to part with it.โ
Anne gently touched her abdomen.
At that moment in the operating room, she had truly intended to terminate the pregnancy. But, inexplicably, when the doctor was about to insert the instrument, she sat up suddenly.
In that instant, Anne had a strong, overwhelming urge to carry the baby to term. Given her circumstances, she could certainly afford to raise the child on her own. Besides, the baby was innocent and shouldnโt be a casualty of her marriage to Dante.
Anne was silent for a long time before saying, โI did choose to keep the baby, but it has nothing to do with Dante. I donโt have lingering feelings for him.โ
The doctor had indicated that she was at risk of miscarriage and that the fetus was unstable. After leaving the operating room, Anne decided to let things take their course. If the baby was strong enough, sheโd keep it; if not, it was simply fate.
Meryl gently took Anneโs hand. โWhatever decision you make, Iโll support you. If you still decide to divorce, Iโll be the godmother and help raise the child.โ
Anne lightly touched Merylโs face. โSo youโre keen on being a pain-free mom, huh? Dream on.โ
โBut your belly will eventually start to show. With Danteโs personality, heโll never let go if he knows the babyโs still here.โ
Anne had an idea and said, โWhat if the babyโs father was Yancey? Donโt you think Dante might just give up?โ
Meryl was taken aback. With Danteโs pride, he would certainly struggle with the idea of his wife carrying another manโs child.
Anne smiled, โIโm keeping Yancey as my lover and having his baby. Seems reasonable, right?โ
Meryl frowned, realizing Anne was resolutely set on leaving Dante. She glanced at the door. โDante should still be out there. You should talk to him properly.โ
Anne nodded. โAnd youโฆ are you really okay?โ
Merylโs expression was a bit odd. โActually, I was faking it. I didnโt fall last night, and I didnโt save Lydia. I followed her and took the fall on purpose to mess up her plansโฆโ
