Chapter 257 Come Back to Me
Dante never imagined he would be reduced to such a state of desperation.
His eyes were bloodshot, reflecting the last vestiges of hope as if he were clinging to a dying ember.
Anne was equally taken aback.
She could hardly believe that someone as prideful as Dante would forsake both his dignity and self-respect.
Now, he seemed willing to sacrifice everything just to hold on to her.
As Anne tried to pull her hand away, she was interrupted by Yanceyโs sudden appearance.
Yanceyโs melodious voice cut through the tense atmosphere like a ray of light piercing the darkness. โAnne.โ
The sunlight streaming through the window highlighted Yanceyโs profile, casting a warm glow on his hair, turning it into a rich chestnut hue.
Anne was startled. โWhat are you doing here? I thought you had classes today.โ
Yanceyโs gaze was filled with concern as he looked at Anne. โYou didnโt come home last night. I was worried about you.โ
Seeing the tired lines around Yanceyโs eyes, Anne frowned. โSo, you waited up all night for me?โ
Yancey nodded gently.
Anne was speechless for a moment.
Yancey then reached into his pocket and pulled out a lollipop, taking a few steps closer to Anne with a smile.
Yancey said, peeling off the wrapper, โI bought this for you on my way here.
โItโs your favorite strawberry flavor, and itโs the last one left. Pretty lucky, huh?โ
โVery lucky,โ Anne said, opening her mouth just as Yancey placed the lollipop into it.
The sweet strawberry flavor melted on her tongue, warming her heart.
Danteโs eyes were bloodshot and filled with rage as he watched the scene unfold.
He thought to himself, โAnne and Yancey are so comfortable together! But theyโve only known each other for a short time.
What does โwaited up all nightโ mean? Have they really moved in together?
How can Anne be alone with another man? Sheโs still my wife!โ
Danteโs frustration boiled over, as if invisible hands were tearing at his heart.
He looked at Anne with pained eyes. โAnneโฆ come back to me.โ
Anne seemed to ignore him completely, instead wrapping her arm around Yanceyโs. โDonโt you have class today?โ
Yanceyโs voice was soft and gentle. โI skipped class to see you.โ
โThatโs not okay,โ Anne said, noting that as his sponsor, she had a duty to encourage him to focus on his studies.
Checking the time, Anne realized he could still make it to the afternoon classes if he left now.
โLetโs go. My car is downstairs. Iโll drive you back to school.โ
Yancey, with a hint of mischief in his tone, asked, โDoes that mean youโll come to class with me?โ
Anne paused, momentarily taken aback.
โIf itโs not too inconvenientโฆโ Yancey continued softly, not pressuring her.
Anne replied, taking Yanceyโs hand, โNot at all. Itโs perfect. We can go have lunch at that place near your school afterward.โ
Yanceyโs face lit up with a warm, genuine smile. โSounds great.โ
Dante watched in disbelief as Anne and Yancey prepared to leave. โAnne, youโre just going to walk away from me like this?โ
Anne turned back, giving him a smile. โCanโt you see? Iโm about to have a date with my young boyfriend.โ
Danteโs anger flared. โIโm still your husband! Whatโs he to you but a gold-digger? You spend money, and he flashes a smile. Do you really think heโs sincere?โ
Danteโs words carried a sting of insult, and Yanceyโs lips tightened.
He dropped his head slightly, showing a flicker of hurt.
โAnne, wake up! Donโt degrade yourself like this! If you come back to me, Iโll give you everythingโeven my heart! I can give you everything he can, and even more than he canโt!โ Dante pleaded, desperation clear in his voice.
Anne, however, was unfazed. โHe wants my money, and I want him for his looks. Itโs a fair trade. Better than giving everything and ending up with nothing. As for your heartโฆ you can keep it. Iโm not interested anymore.โ
Anne took Yanceyโs hand and began to leave, leaving Dante frozen in place, as if he were under a spell.
He felt as though a heavy weight was pressing down on his chest, making it hard to breathe. His body shook uncontrollably, his face a portrait of agony and confusion.
Dante thought, โAnne, what will it take for you to come back to me?โ
