Chapter 314: Meet Up
The next day, Meryl received a phone call and then headed out. A Lamborghini pulled up in front of her.
John tapped the passenger seat. โHop in, Iโll drive you.โ
The car was obviously expensive, and Meryl took a moment to admire it. โNice new car.โ
John said, โChandler gifted it to me. Didnโt you know?โ
Meryl was at a loss for words.
John said, โThe hospitalโs in chaos, did you hear? Dalton doesnโt want the baby and is forcing Lydia to get rid of it. She was wheeled into the operating room this morning. Mom and Dad rushed over as soon as they heard.โ
Meryl had thought Daltonโs reluctance to have the baby was just talk, but she hadnโt expected him to go this far. It seemed he truly intended to divorce Lydia.
โDaltonโs mother hid Lydia away,โ John continued, shaking his head. โEven if the baby is born, it wonโt be welcomed by its father, just a pawn in Lydiaโs power struggle. Whatโs the point?โ
This was exactly what Meryl had anticipated. Having married Dalton with great difficulty, Lydia wouldnโt let go. The baby was her only chance to turn things around.
John added, โMom asked me to pass on a message. She wants you to take her off the blacklist and seems eager to make amends.โ
Meryl asked, โThe money Malcolm transferred to me yesterday, that was you using his name, wasnโt it?โ
John was taken aback. He thought he had done it perfectly. โHow did you figure it out?โ
โThat wasnโt Malcolmโs tone at all,โ Meryl replied with a mocking smile.
John quickly said, โBut it was indeed his money. Dadโs private stash must be nearly emptied by now.โ
Meryl shook her head. It was never about the money for her. She wanted a sincere apology from the Stone family, but clearly, they hadnโt truly grasped their mistake.
Soon, the car pulled up outside a villa.
John said, โMeryl, regarding the address you gave me, I sent someone over early this morning to inform Rocky that thereโs a business deal to discuss. Heโs been summoned here, and he should be arriving any minute now.โ
Meryl got out of the car. โAlright.โ
The villa was a place John used as a rehearsal studio back when he played in a band. The Stone family owned numerous properties, and this one had been vacant since John went abroad. John had it cleaned up recently, so it was still in good condition.
They had barely entered when they heard a car engine being turned off outside. Meryl and John exchanged glances. She gestured for John to hide.
As John concealed himself, a man in his early thirties, wearing a floral shirt, appeared at the entrance.
Rocky paused at the sight of Meryl. He was surprised.
Meryl motioned for him to come in. โRocky, why so surprised? Didnโt expect it to be me?โ
Rocky was Merylโs foster brother, who was ten years older than her. He had fallen into gambling in his teens, accruing a mountain of debt, and later joined a gang, living a life of delinquency.
Rocky stepped inside. He looked composed. โMeryl, what do you need from me?โ
Meryl sat on the sofa. โYou must know I married Chandler, right? I heard youโve been spreading rumors that you slept with me. Chandler wants to have a word with you about that.โ
Rocky was about to drink the water he had poured for himself when his hand shook at her words, spilling water all over himself.
Rocky knew who Chandler was. He quickly denied it. โWhen did I ever sleep with you? Meryl, you canโt just make things up!โ
โIf you didnโt sleep with me, then why are you spreading such rumors?โ Meryl placed her phone face down on the table, her expression turning cold. โRocky, who put you up to slandering me?โ
Rockyโs eyes darted around before landing on Merylโs phone. โMeryl, you wouldnโt be recording this, would you?โ
As he said this, he snatched her phone and sneered, looking as if he had expected this all along.
