Chapter 355 Thatโs My Child
Yancey glanced at Anne, who lay on the grass with her eyes closed. His gaze softened with affection.
Gently, he took off the scarf from around his neck and carefully draped it over her.
When he looked up at the girl who had approached, there was a cool detachment in his eyes.
โNo, sheโs my girlfriend.โ
The girl awkwardly made a face and quickly walked away.
Anne wasnโt really asleep. She had felt Yancey cover her with the scarf.
She suddenly opened her eyes, smiling. โAre you using me to fend off your admirers?โ
Yancey pressed his lips together slightly.
It was the first time Anne saw such a vulnerable expression on a guyโs face, and it amused her.
At that moment, she thought that spending most of the cold winter night waiting for the Gemini meteor shower had been worth it.
When the first meteor streaked across the sky, Anne nudged Yancey to make a wish.
The medical school building was perched on a hill with little light pollution. At that time, they were surrounded by darkness.
A breeze blew through, and Yancey stood in the open field, hands clasped together, gazing at the stars with a deep sense of reverence.
His lips moved slightly, his voice low but clear. He looked off in the distance toward Anne and whispered a name, โAnne.โ
Though his voice was soft, it was unmistakable in the quiet of the mountain night.
Anne paused, half-joking as she said, โAre there any other Annes in your life?โ
Yancey was silent for a few seconds, then shook his head.
โMy wishโฆ is you.โ
The air in the mountains was crisp and refreshing.
Though it was winter, the night wasnโt cold.
At that moment, Anne felt her heart stir deeply at Yanceyโs words.
โThe stars at your university arenโt as impressive as I thought,โ she finally said after a long silence. โWell, tonight wasnโt a waste.โ
She hadnโt expected Yancey to take her words so seriously.
Anne thought he might have misunderstood. Her words may have given him the wrong idea.
As her thoughts drifted, Anne glanced at Yancey, a playful glimmer in her eyes.
โYancey, youโre 21, and Iโm almost 25. Iโm four years older than you, and I plan to keep this baby.
โDo you know what that means? I imagine you wonโt want to suddenly become a father in your early twenties.โ
โHow do you know I donโt want to?โ Yanceyโs gaze dropped to Anneโs belly. โAnne, thatโs my child. Iโm its father.โ
At that moment, the password lock on Anneโs front door beeped as Dante unlocked it.
Dante had figured out the code. As he stepped inside, the first thing he heard was Yanceyโs voice.
โIโm its father,โ Yancey said.
Without hesitation, Dante swung his fist at Yanceyโs face.
The blow landed hard, and blood immediately trickled from the corner of Yanceyโs mouth.
Dante grabbed him by the shoulders, glaring at him furiously. โDid you touch her? Did you sleep with her? Did you get her pregnant?!โ
Misunderstandings spiraled like this.
Dante had convinced himself that the child in Anneโs belly was his.
In a blind rage, Dante landed punch after punch on Yanceyโs face.
Anne was terrified, rushing forward to intervene. โDante, have you lost your mind?!โ
โYes, Iโve lost my mind! I want to kill him!โ
The wild fury in Danteโs eyes was terrifying. Anne wanted to stop him but was afraid of hurting the baby in her belly.
โDante, in an hour, weโre supposed to be at the courthouse for our divorce.
โWeโre about to be divorced. Who Iโm having a child with is none of your business.
โYancey is the man I love. Dante, donโt hurt him. Donโt make me hate you.โ
