Chapter 357: Lydiaโs True Color
โHow dare you blame me for anything that happens to you? Lydia, are you joking? Youโve done so many terrible things. Sooner or later, youโll get what you deserve.โ
With that, Meryl didnโt linger any longer.
Lydia stared at Merylโs retreating figure, so furious that her hands clenched into fists, trembling with rage.
โMeryl, even if you know everything Iโve done, what can you do about it? Iโm pregnant with the Aniston familyโs child. This baby is my shield. Even if Rocky has changed his testimony in prison, the Aniston family will still protect me. My father will be on my side, so nothing will happen to me.โ
Meryl merely gave her a cold smile at those words.
Just then, Dalton appeared.
He had been quietly following Meryl ever since she began her evening walk in the garden after dinner. There was something magnetic about her that drew him closer without him even realizing it. As a result, he had overheard every word of the conversation.
This was the first time Dalton had faced Lydiaโs true nature. He had never imagined that she could be so vicious. He realized then that her past sweetness and vulnerability had all been an act. The shock and disillusionment hit him hard.
Lydiaโs face flickered with fear when she saw Dalton, but she quickly regained her composure and walked toward him.
โDalton, when did you get here? Everything I said just now was out of anger. I was just arguing with Meryl. Donโt take it seriously.โ
Daltonโs gaze was laced with scorn.
โThe thought that someone like you is carrying my child makes me sick.โ
โDalton, I told you, I was just saying nonsense. Donโt believe it.โ
โYou said it yourself, Lydia. You just admitted to everything, but earlier, you blamed Rocky for slandering you.โ
Daltonโs eyes drifted to Lydiaโs belly.
โGet rid of the baby. Take the money and go. If you do it now, it wonโt be too hard on your body. Name your price.โ
He was willing to pay anything to be rid of her.
Tears immediately welled up in Lydiaโs eyes.
โDalton, how could you say such a thing in front of Meryl? You know how tense my relationship is with her. Youโre trampling on my dignity! You may not care about the child, but Iโm his mother. Iโm going to have him.โ
Dalton let out a disdainful laugh.
โYou knew all along that one day Iโd leave you. Thatโs why youโre trying to use this child to tie me down for life, arenโt you? Lydia, youโre delusional. Do you really think that after I expose everything youโve done, my mother will still protect you?โ
Daltonโs voice grew colder with each word. โThe only reason I havenโt said anything yet is because I was giving you some mercy. But now, I donโt see the need to hold back anymore.โ
With that, Dalton turned to leave.
โDalton, where are you going?โ
โWhere do you think? Iโm going to tell the Aniston family the truth about everything youโve done.โ
โDalton, you canโt be this cruel to me!โ
As the two argued, Meryl watched the spectacle from the sidelines with a detached indifference. Though it was natural to enjoy watching the drama unfold, old grudges like these quickly grew tiresome.
Meryl shrugged, ready to walk away.
Suddenly, she heard the sound of splashing water. Turning around, she saw that Lydia had pushed Dalton into the water!
Meryl froze in shock.
She thought to herself, โDid Lydia really just do that? How could she push a strong man like Dalton into the water?โ
โIโฆ I didnโt mean toโฆโ
Lydia stammered, panic spreading across her face as she backed away. โDalton, just wait, Iโฆ Iโll go get help!โ
Without another word, Lydia turned and ran off, not looking back.
