Chapter 39 Hit the Jackpot

Meryl nodded, her brow furrowing as she noticed the look of shock etched across Anneโ€™s face. Anneโ€™s mouth was agape, as if it could swallow a whole egg.

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong? Do you know him?โ€ Meryl asked, curiosity piqued.

Worried she might have misread the situation, Anne asked, โ€œWhatโ€™s his name? Show me!โ€

Recalling the name she had seen on the marriage license earlier that day, Meryl took Anneโ€™s hand and wrote it in her palm.

As the letters formed, Anne went completely still, her expression frozen in disbelief.

After what felt like an eternity, she managed to collect herself, her voice barely above a whisper. โ€œYouโ€ฆ you really donโ€™t know who Chandler is?โ€

Meryl shook her head innocently.

โ€œAside from his name, I donโ€™t know much. I just know he runs a company and tends to get hammered at social engagements."

Just as Anne was about to respond, the sound of the police station door crashing open echoed through the room.

A tall man strode in, exuding an air of authority that turned heads and silenced conversations.

Chandler walked in like he owned the place, his gaze locked onto Meryl.

When he spotted the blood on her arm, his expression darkened. โ€œYouโ€™re hurt?โ€

Meryl quickly shook her head. โ€œNo, itโ€™s not mine.โ€

Chandlerโ€™s face softened slightly, but he still looked concerned. Meryl was dressed too lightly for the chilly atmosphere, her complexion pale.

Without hesitation, he removed his suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders. โ€œButton it up.โ€

โ€œSorry for dragging you out here at this hourโ€ฆโ€

Merylโ€™s voice was low, guilt creeping in for inconveniencing him.

Chandler frowned. โ€œWeโ€™re married. You donโ€™t need to apologize for that.โ€

At that moment, a police officer approached them. โ€œYouโ€™re here to bail them out, right? Come over and sign some paperwork, and you can get them out.โ€

Chandler nodded, and then his eyes fell on Anne.

Their gazes met, and Anne felt a rush of uncertainty. She thought, โ€œShould I say something? Itโ€™s understandable that Meryl doesnโ€™t know Chandler well after spending three years in prison, but Iโ€™ve crossed paths with him a few times.

After all, Chandler and Dante are practically best friends, making it hard for me to avoid knowing him entirely. We have even shared a meal.

Despite the limited conversation weโ€™ve exchanged, Chandler might recognize me.

But how could Merylโ€™s husband be Chandler? Itโ€™s utterly baffling.โ€

As the officer prepared the paperwork, signaling for Chandler to follow him, Anne couldnโ€™t hold back any longer.

โ€œOkay, spill it. Whatโ€™s the deal with you and Chandler? How did you two end up married? Who brought it up?โ€

Meryl hesitated, recalling that shocking morning. โ€œI think it was himโ€ฆโ€

Anneโ€™s expression turned serious.

She thought, โ€œMerylโ€™s been through a lot with Dalton. But Chandlerโ€™s actually willing to marry her? Thatโ€™sโ€ฆ strange.โ€

But as she thought about it, a sense of satisfaction washed over her.

Chandlerโ€™s standing in the Aniston family was unshakeable, and now, Meryl marrying him meant she would become Daltonโ€™s aunt.

Imagining the family gatherings, where Dalton would have to toast Meryl alongside Lydia, made Anne giddy with excitement.

Anne said, linking her arm through Merylโ€™s, โ€œGirl, youโ€™ve really hit the jackpot with this one."

โ€œDo you have any idea about Chandler and Daltonโ€ฆโ€

Before she could finish her thought, the police station door swung open once more.
