Chapter 401 Thereโ€™s No Going Back

โ€œMeryl, you awake? I brought you something to eat.โ€

Meryl pressed her lips together, her voice quiet but firm. โ€œIโ€™m not hungry. You can have it.โ€

Without waiting for a response, she turned over and switched off the light, plunging the room into darkness.

But Dalton stayed put. โ€œMeryl, youโ€™ve barely eaten these past few days. Youโ€™ve lost weight. How can you not be hungry? At least come out and see what I got for you.โ€

His voice was gentle, almost pleading, but Meryl let out a tired sigh.

โ€œDalton, Iโ€™m really not hungry. Letโ€™s talk about it tomorrow, okay? Iโ€™m trying to sleep.โ€

She didnโ€™t want to waste any more energy on him, especially not in the middle of the night.

Realizing heโ€™d hit a wall, Dalton gave in. โ€œAlright, get some rest.โ€

Still, he lingered outside her door for a moment, staring at the dim light seeping under the door.

A flicker of sadness flashed across his face.

She used to care so much about him. Now, she couldnโ€™t even stand to be around him.

Chapter 401 Thereโ€™s No Going Back angry and needed time.

He was sure that with enough patience, sheโ€™d come around.

Just then, a servant approached him. โ€œSir, the sandwich you brought back is ready. Would you like to eat it?โ€

He shook his head. โ€œNo, let the others have it.โ€

The servant looked surprised. โ€œBut didnโ€™t you buy that especially for Ms. Stone? Itโ€™s not easy to get.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll just get another one for her tomorrow.โ€

Meanwhile, Meryl, lying in bed, had heard every word.

She didnโ€™t take it seriously, though, thinking it was just another

one of Daltonโ€™s offhand comments.

The next morning, however, when she went downstairs, she was caught off guard by the sight of a fresh sandwich neatly arranged on the dining table.

Dalton was already sitting there, and his eyes lit up when he saw her. โ€œMeryl, you must be hungry. Come on, have something to eat.โ€

Meryl glanced at the sandwich.

It was from that little shop near her high school, the one she used to visit almost every week back then.

It had been ages since she last had one.

She picked up a piece, took a small bite, and immediately frowned.

โ€œHow does it taste?โ€ he asked, his voice full of expectation.

Before Meryl could answer, the housekeeper jumped in. โ€œMs. Stone, you wouldnโ€™t believe it. Mr. Dalton Aniston got up at the crack of dawn just to line up and get it fresh for you!โ€

Meryl chewed a few more times before setting the food down, her tone indifferent. โ€œIt doesnโ€™t taste the same.โ€

Dalton, looking puzzled, took a bite himself. โ€œWhat do you mean? It tastes fine to me.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s just not like it used to be.โ€

He caught the underlying meaning in her words.

โ€œBut itโ€™s from the same shop, nothingโ€™s changed."

โ€œMaybe you just forgot what it was like?โ€

He pushed the plate toward her again, unwilling to give up. โ€œTry it again, Iโ€™m sure itโ€™s still the same.โ€

Meryl looked him straight in the eyes.

โ€œThe taste has changed, Dalton. Weโ€™ve changed. Thereโ€™s no going back. Canโ€™t you see that?โ€

A bitter smile tugged at Daltonโ€™s lips. โ€œMeryl, yesterday you said if I divorced Lydia, youโ€™d think about giving us another shot. Were you lying to me the whole time?โ€
