Chapter 401 Thereโs No Going Back
โMeryl, you awake? I brought you something to eat.โ
Meryl pressed her lips together, her voice quiet but firm. โIโm not hungry. You can have it.โ
Without waiting for a response, she turned over and switched off the light, plunging the room into darkness.
But Dalton stayed put. โMeryl, youโve barely eaten these past few days. Youโve lost weight. How can you not be hungry? At least come out and see what I got for you.โ
His voice was gentle, almost pleading, but Meryl let out a tired sigh.
โDalton, Iโm really not hungry. Letโs talk about it tomorrow, okay? Iโm trying to sleep.โ
She didnโt want to waste any more energy on him, especially not in the middle of the night.
Realizing heโd hit a wall, Dalton gave in. โAlright, get some rest.โ
Still, he lingered outside her door for a moment, staring at the dim light seeping under the door.
A flicker of sadness flashed across his face.
She used to care so much about him. Now, she couldnโt even stand to be around him.
Chapter 401 Thereโs No Going Back angry and needed time.
He was sure that with enough patience, sheโd come around.
Just then, a servant approached him. โSir, the sandwich you brought back is ready. Would you like to eat it?โ
He shook his head. โNo, let the others have it.โ
The servant looked surprised. โBut didnโt you buy that especially for Ms. Stone? Itโs not easy to get.โ
โIโll just get another one for her tomorrow.โ
Meanwhile, Meryl, lying in bed, had heard every word.

She didnโt take it seriously, though, thinking it was just another
one of Daltonโs offhand comments.
The next morning, however, when she went downstairs, she was caught off guard by the sight of a fresh sandwich neatly arranged on the dining table.
Dalton was already sitting there, and his eyes lit up when he saw her. โMeryl, you must be hungry. Come on, have something to eat.โ
Meryl glanced at the sandwich.
It was from that little shop near her high school, the one she used to visit almost every week back then.
It had been ages since she last had one.

She picked up a piece, took a small bite, and immediately frowned.
โHow does it taste?โ he asked, his voice full of expectation.

Before Meryl could answer, the housekeeper jumped in. โMs. Stone, you wouldnโt believe it. Mr. Dalton Aniston got up at the crack of dawn just to line up and get it fresh for you!โ
Meryl chewed a few more times before setting the food down, her tone indifferent. โIt doesnโt taste the same.โ
Dalton, looking puzzled, took a bite himself. โWhat do you mean? It tastes fine to me.โ
โItโs just not like it used to be.โ
He caught the underlying meaning in her words.
โBut itโs from the same shop, nothingโs changed."
โMaybe you just forgot what it was like?โ
He pushed the plate toward her again, unwilling to give up. โTry it again, Iโm sure itโs still the same.โ
Meryl looked him straight in the eyes.
โThe taste has changed, Dalton. Weโve changed. Thereโs no going back. Canโt you see that?โ
A bitter smile tugged at Daltonโs lips. โMeryl, yesterday you said if I divorced Lydia, youโd think about giving us another shot. Were you lying to me the whole time?โ
