Chapter 610 The Thing in Chandlerโs Pocket
As Meryl was engrossed in her phone, Chandler walked in.
She immediately approached him. โWhere have you been? Why did you come back so late?โ
It was already dark outside, and Meryl had just finished her dinner alone at home.
Chandler casually took off his coat and hung it on the clothes rack. โI went to the Aniston Villa to settle a score for you.โ
Meryl was taken aback, โDid you pick a fight with your dad?โ
She had just suffered an indignity at the Aniston family, and she didnโt expect Chandler to know about it so quickly.
Chandler nodded. โYeah, I used the family law and gave Dalton a beating. He probably wonโt bother you anymore or spread rumors carelessly.โ
Merylโs fingers curled slightly. โDid you not have much to eat at the Aniston Villa? Thereโs still soup left, Iโll heat it up for you.โ
Chandler wrapped his arms around Meryl from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder.
โMeryl, donโt rush, let me hold you for a bit.โ
Meryl paused, feeling warmth and security in Chandlerโs embrace.
She couldnโt help but smile, placing her hands over Chandlerโs. โCan you feel it? The baby is moving in my belly.โ
At this stage, the babyโs movements were like tiny bubbles from a fish, barely noticeable.
Chandler carefully felt around her abdomen, indeed catching a slight nudge.
โThis is our child.โ Meryl turned around, leaning into Chandlerโs arms, embracing him with both hands.
โI went for a check-up while returning from the Aniston Villa; the doctor said the baby is developing well.
โThe due date is in November, do you think it will snow in Kingsdom by then?โ
Merylโs face was filled with anticipation for the future. She was unable to imagine how life would change with a new life.
Chandler smiled, โYou know, when our child is born, will you pay more attention to him and neglect me?โ
โHow could that be?โ Meryl rested her head on Chandlerโs shoulder.
She added, โThe baby is important to me, and so are you. The three of us together make a family.โ
Recalling Chandlerโs childhood experiences, Meryl only wanted to live a good life with him.
Both their childhoods were incomplete, so they would make up the love they lacked during those years to their child.
Chandler cupped Merylโs cheeks, unable to restrain himself, gently kissing her lips.
โMeryl, having you as my wife is my fortune.โ
His Adamโs apple bobbed. Clearly, he was moved by emotion.
In Chandlerโs embrace, Meryl clearly felt that the man in front of her was aroused.
Suddenly, Meryl froze.
She distinctly smelled a hint of a womanโs perfume on Chandler.
This fragrance, Meryl had smelled on Rachel before.
She mused, โDid they meet today?โ
Meryl bit her lip.
But Chandler had just said he came from the Aniston Villa.
After a moment of hesitation, Meryl looked into Chandlerโs eyes, asking, โDid you see Rachel today?โ
Chandler furrowed his brows, feeling surprised. โNo, why suddenly mention her?โ
She thought, โNo? Is this fragrance just a coincidence?โ
Meryl ceased her wild speculations.
She stepped out of his embrace and turned to the kitchen.
โItโs getting late, go take a shower quickly, Iโll heat up the soup for you.โ
Chandler nodded, gently rubbed Merylโs head, and headed towards the bathroom.
Meanwhile, Meryl stood in the kitchen, turning on the gas.
As the food in the pot began to smoke, she stared at the white fumes, lost in thought.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed, pulling her back to reality.
Meryl unlocked her screen to find a message from Rachel.
It was an image: Rachel showed only half her face. The lighting was dim, the bedsheet beneath her pristine white. It looked like she was lying in bed.
What caught Merylโs eye was the menโs suit jacket draped over Rachel.
Meryl recognized that jacketโexactly the same one Chandler wore today!
A chill ran through Meryl, her breathing quickening.
She immediately shot back a message: [What are you trying to say, Rachel?]
Before Meryl could even process her reply, Rachel had already recalled the photo.
She replied: [Oops, I sent the wrong one. You didnโt see anything, right?]
Merylโs face hardened.
She clutched her phone, her chest heaving. Rachel followed up with another message.
[Youโre pregnant, so I figured you couldnโt satisfy Chandler, so I took over, you know? Oh, and check his jacketโI left you a little surprise.]
The message was swiftly withdrawn.
Just then, the food in the pot started to boil. Meryl turned off the stove.
She walked to the living room, rummaging through Chandlerโs jacket.
Inside lay a condom!
Merylโs face drained of color.
She remembered this brandโa pack of two.
โSo, oneโs used, and he just conveniently brought the other back?
Chandler just claimed he hadnโt seen Rachel, but why would she put such intimate items in his pocket?โ
Merylโs fingers clenched tightly, her eyes welling up.
She felt like she might collapse.
She desperately wanted to trust Chandler, but the evidence was right before her eyesโhow could she?
โAnd where did that scent on Chandler come from?
If they hadnโt been in close contact, how would Chandlerโs clothes have picked up Rachelโs perfume?โ
Meryl pressed a hand to her belly.
She suddenly felt a pang in her abdomen.
โIs it so distressing that even the baby feels my emotions?โ
Meryl felt like swallowing shards of glass.
โWhat nowโฆ is the recent sweetness all a facade?โ
When Chandler stepped out of the shower, the house was empty, and Meryl was nowhere to be seen.
On the table sat a hot bowl of soup, freshly made by Meryl.
Chandler, clad in a black silk robe and slippers, stood by the dining table.
He picked up his phone and called Meryl.
โMeryl? Where are you at this late hour?โ
Meryl bit her lip, nails digging into her palm.
She wanted to avoid jumping to conclusions and needed some time alone to think.
โAnne just called, wanted me to go keep her company.โ
Chandler was taken aback. โAt this hour? Did you go alone? Why didnโt you let me drive you?โ
โYou had a long day at work, itโs fine. I took a cab, and Iโm almost there.โ
Anneโs place wasnโt far, just a ten-minute cab ride away.
Chandler sighed, โSo youโre leaving me to sleep alone tonight?โ
Meryl curled her fingers.
She wasnโt lying to ChandlerโAnne had indeed called her.
