Chapter 610 The Thing in Chandlerโ€™s Pocket

As Meryl was engrossed in her phone, Chandler walked in.

She immediately approached him. โ€œWhere have you been? Why did you come back so late?โ€

It was already dark outside, and Meryl had just finished her dinner alone at home.

Chandler casually took off his coat and hung it on the clothes rack. โ€œI went to the Aniston Villa to settle a score for you.โ€

Meryl was taken aback, โ€œDid you pick a fight with your dad?โ€

She had just suffered an indignity at the Aniston family, and she didnโ€™t expect Chandler to know about it so quickly.

Chandler nodded. โ€œYeah, I used the family law and gave Dalton a beating. He probably wonโ€™t bother you anymore or spread rumors carelessly.โ€

Merylโ€™s fingers curled slightly. โ€œDid you not have much to eat at the Aniston Villa? Thereโ€™s still soup left, Iโ€™ll heat it up for you.โ€

Chandler wrapped his arms around Meryl from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder.

โ€œMeryl, donโ€™t rush, let me hold you for a bit.โ€

Meryl paused, feeling warmth and security in Chandlerโ€™s embrace.

She couldnโ€™t help but smile, placing her hands over Chandlerโ€™s. โ€œCan you feel it? The baby is moving in my belly.โ€

At this stage, the babyโ€™s movements were like tiny bubbles from a fish, barely noticeable.

Chandler carefully felt around her abdomen, indeed catching a slight nudge.

โ€œThis is our child.โ€ Meryl turned around, leaning into Chandlerโ€™s arms, embracing him with both hands.

โ€œI went for a check-up while returning from the Aniston Villa; the doctor said the baby is developing well.

โ€œThe due date is in November, do you think it will snow in Kingsdom by then?โ€

Merylโ€™s face was filled with anticipation for the future. She was unable to imagine how life would change with a new life.

Chandler smiled, โ€œYou know, when our child is born, will you pay more attention to him and neglect me?โ€

โ€œHow could that be?โ€ Meryl rested her head on Chandlerโ€™s shoulder.

She added, โ€œThe baby is important to me, and so are you. The three of us together make a family.โ€

Recalling Chandlerโ€™s childhood experiences, Meryl only wanted to live a good life with him.

Both their childhoods were incomplete, so they would make up the love they lacked during those years to their child.

Chandler cupped Merylโ€™s cheeks, unable to restrain himself, gently kissing her lips.

โ€œMeryl, having you as my wife is my fortune.โ€

His Adamโ€™s apple bobbed. Clearly, he was moved by emotion.

In Chandlerโ€™s embrace, Meryl clearly felt that the man in front of her was aroused.

Suddenly, Meryl froze.

She distinctly smelled a hint of a womanโ€™s perfume on Chandler.

This fragrance, Meryl had smelled on Rachel before.

She mused, โ€œDid they meet today?โ€

Meryl bit her lip.

But Chandler had just said he came from the Aniston Villa.

After a moment of hesitation, Meryl looked into Chandlerโ€™s eyes, asking, โ€œDid you see Rachel today?โ€

Chandler furrowed his brows, feeling surprised. โ€œNo, why suddenly mention her?โ€

She thought, โ€œNo? Is this fragrance just a coincidence?โ€

Meryl ceased her wild speculations.

She stepped out of his embrace and turned to the kitchen.

โ€œItโ€™s getting late, go take a shower quickly, Iโ€™ll heat up the soup for you.โ€

Chandler nodded, gently rubbed Merylโ€™s head, and headed towards the bathroom.

Meanwhile, Meryl stood in the kitchen, turning on the gas.

As the food in the pot began to smoke, she stared at the white fumes, lost in thought.

Suddenly, her phone buzzed, pulling her back to reality.

Meryl unlocked her screen to find a message from Rachel.

It was an image: Rachel showed only half her face. The lighting was dim, the bedsheet beneath her pristine white. It looked like she was lying in bed.

What caught Merylโ€™s eye was the menโ€™s suit jacket draped over Rachel.

Meryl recognized that jacketโ€”exactly the same one Chandler wore today!

A chill ran through Meryl, her breathing quickening.

She immediately shot back a message: [What are you trying to say, Rachel?]

Before Meryl could even process her reply, Rachel had already recalled the photo.

She replied: [Oops, I sent the wrong one. You didnโ€™t see anything, right?]

Merylโ€™s face hardened.

She clutched her phone, her chest heaving. Rachel followed up with another message.

[Youโ€™re pregnant, so I figured you couldnโ€™t satisfy Chandler, so I took over, you know? Oh, and check his jacketโ€“I left you a little surprise.]

The message was swiftly withdrawn.

Just then, the food in the pot started to boil. Meryl turned off the stove.

She walked to the living room, rummaging through Chandlerโ€™s jacket.

Inside lay a condom!

Merylโ€™s face drained of color.

She remembered this brandโ€”a pack of two.

โ€œSo, oneโ€™s used, and he just conveniently brought the other back?

Chandler just claimed he hadnโ€™t seen Rachel, but why would she put such intimate items in his pocket?โ€

Merylโ€™s fingers clenched tightly, her eyes welling up.

She felt like she might collapse.

She desperately wanted to trust Chandler, but the evidence was right before her eyesโ€“how could she?

โ€œAnd where did that scent on Chandler come from?

If they hadnโ€™t been in close contact, how would Chandlerโ€™s clothes have picked up Rachelโ€™s perfume?โ€

Meryl pressed a hand to her belly.

She suddenly felt a pang in her abdomen.

โ€œIs it so distressing that even the baby feels my emotions?โ€

Meryl felt like swallowing shards of glass.

โ€œWhat nowโ€ฆ is the recent sweetness all a facade?โ€

When Chandler stepped out of the shower, the house was empty, and Meryl was nowhere to be seen.

On the table sat a hot bowl of soup, freshly made by Meryl.

Chandler, clad in a black silk robe and slippers, stood by the dining table.

He picked up his phone and called Meryl.

โ€œMeryl? Where are you at this late hour?โ€

Meryl bit her lip, nails digging into her palm.

She wanted to avoid jumping to conclusions and needed some time alone to think.

โ€œAnne just called, wanted me to go keep her company.โ€

Chandler was taken aback. โ€œAt this hour? Did you go alone? Why didnโ€™t you let me drive you?โ€

โ€œYou had a long day at work, itโ€™s fine. I took a cab, and Iโ€™m almost there.โ€

Anneโ€™s place wasnโ€™t far, just a ten-minute cab ride away.

Chandler sighed, โ€œSo youโ€™re leaving me to sleep alone tonight?โ€

Meryl curled her fingers.

She wasnโ€™t lying to Chandlerโ€“Anne had indeed called her.
