Chapter 616 Chandler Gets Jealous
It was getting dark.
Meryl had just left Powell Manor after seeing Felix off to the hospital.
The rivalry between Christopher and Felix was intense. They were eager to put each other out of the picture.
If Meryl hadnโt heard it with her own ears, sheโd never have imagined that Christopher would let his driver run over Felixโs legs.
She thought, โWhat kind of hatred could they have to go to such extremes?
The Powell familyโs businesses are all controlled by Keith. The brothers each have their roles to play in managing the estate.
Itโs said to be about conflicting interests, but they havenโt split up the family, and Keithโs in good health. So why go this far?โ
As Meryl was lost in thought, she came out of the side door of Powell Manor and saw Chandler still waiting for her.
When he saw her, Chandler immediately walked over.
โYou went to Powell Manor? Was Felix looking for you?โ
Meryl nodded. โHe had a car accident. His legs are shattered, so he asked me to check on him.โ
Chandler replied, โWhy does he keep turning to you?โ
Meryl replied softly, โMaybe he trusts me more than the doctor?โ
Chandlerโs face stiffened. โMeryl, if you keep this up, Iโll get jealous.โ
As a normal man, Chandler couldnโt help but feel uneasy when his wife kept visiting other men. No matter how stable his emotions were, his thoughts still ran wild.
Meryl knew Chandler would mind.
She had left him behind without saying a word earlier, and not just Chandler, but any man would be upset about that.
But when Meryl had seen Rachel and thought of the perfume on Chandler that day, she couldnโt just shake the feeling of discomfort.
She wanted Chandler to understand how she felt.
The air was cooling down, and Chandler grabbed Merylโs hand.
Noticing her palm was cold, he quickly took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders.
Meryl furrowed her brows.
Normally, Chandlerโs thoughtfulness would make her happy, but today, she could smell Rachelโs perfume on his jacket.
Meryl, feeling uneasy, yanked off the coat and threw it back at Chandler in confusion.
โMeryl?โ
Meryl opened the car door, sat down, and turned her face to the window, ignoring him.
Chandler scratched the back of his head in confusion.
He couldnโt understand what she was upset about. It was him who had been left behind, clearly him who had been waiting for her outside for so long.
Chandler didnโt quite get it, but he still got into the car.
Walter, who was driving, noticed the awkward atmosphere but said nothing, stepping on the gas.
As the car moved smoothly down the road, Chandler suddenly grabbed Merylโs hand.
He entwined their fingers and gently poked her face with his other hand.
โMeryl, why are you mad at me? Tell me, what did I do wrong?โ
While Meryl had been away these past few days, Chandler had been working hard every day. He was sure he hadnโt been flirting with anyone else.
If there was one issue, it was when Rachel approached him earlier today when he went to pick Meryl up.
But Chandler hadnโt spoken much to Rachel.
He could sense Meryl was distancing herself, and he didnโt know what he had done wrong.
Merylโs fingers curled as she spoke slowly.
โThat day, when you went to the Aniston Villa, I smelled Rachelโs perfume on you.โ
She watched Chandler closely for his reaction.
Chandler froze for a moment. โWe didnโt even meet that day. Are you suspecting something between us?โ
Meryl nodded.
Chandler hurried to explain. โMeryl, Iโve told you before, my heart belongs only to you.โ
โBut I still foundโฆ that thing in your pocket.โ
Chandler looked puzzled. โWhat thing?โ
Meryl shifted uncomfortably, glancing at Walter, who was still driving, before leaning in to whisper three words.
Chandlerโs face immediately darkened.
He had been set up!
He hadnโt known about what Meryl was talking about. He had no idea when or how the condom had ended up in his pocket.
Chandler tightened his grip on Merylโs hand and locked their fingers together. โMeryl, youโre not the kind of person to be deceived by these little tricks.โ
He pulled her closer, pressing her into his chest. โBut as they say, care makes one blind. Honestly, Iโm happy, because it means you care about me. Thatโs why youโre so worked up.โ
Thinking about how troubled Meryl had been lately, Chandlerโs heart was filled with guilt and sympathy.
โNo wonder she seemed more worn out today,โ he thought.
His chin rested on her soft hair.
โMeryl, weโve been together for so long. You should know what kind of man I am. Iโm your husband. You shouldnโt doubt me.โ
Without waiting for her to reply, Chandler buried his face in her neck.
His warm breath sent a shiver through Meryl, and she instinctively tried to pull away.
But Chandler held her even tighter, his voice muffled. โI feel wronged too. Iโve been set up, yet my wife doesnโt trust me.โ
As he spoke, he took a playful bite of her lips, gently teasing them.
The heated breath against her skin made Merylโs heart race.
She thought, โSo this is how Chandler shows heโs upset? What should I do? My heart is pounding. Iโm definitely being teased.โ
Meryl pushed Chandler away, instinctively licking her lips, then glancing at the front.
Walter had wisely raised the divider between the front and back seats.
Merylโs face immediately flushed bright red, feeling as if they were doing something wrong while being watched.
Chandler rubbed her hair gently. โThat day, I was at the company the whole time. The only other thing I did was go to the Aniston Villa to help you out. As for the perfumeโฆโ
He thought for a moment but couldnโt figure out where it came from.
He was sure, though, that he hadnโt met with Rachel that day.
