Chapter 640 Death Comes for Equality

Rachel leaned her head on โ€œChandlerโ€™sโ€ shoulder, her flirtatious intentions obvious.

Meryl didnโ€™t push her away, instead speaking in the same soft tone Rachel had used. โ€œIโ€™m not your Chandler. Iโ€™m Chandlerโ€™s wife, Rachel. You can call me Meryl.โ€

Rachel froze.

After a few seconds of confusion, her hands instinctively felt around and accidentally touched Merylโ€™s chest.

That was when she realized sheโ€™d embraced the wrong person.

She let go of Meryl with disgust. โ€œMeryl, what are you doing here? Are you happy now that youโ€™ve ruined my life?โ€

โ€œOh, yes, how did you guess?โ€

Meryl sat down on the sofa, fixing Rachel with a calm stare. โ€œSo happy that I went out for lunch today and enjoyed a whole plate of lobster. It was absolutely delicious.โ€

Rachelโ€™s brows furrowed. โ€œYouโ€™re eating fancy lobster? After blinding me? While Iโ€™m suffering here, youโ€™reโ€ฆโ€

She couldnโ€™t believe Meryl was out having lunch parties.

Rachelโ€™s face turned cold. โ€œMeryl, I wonโ€™t let you get away with this!โ€

โ€œWell, here I am, sitting right in front of you. What exactly do you plan to do about it?โ€

Rachel grabbed at the air a couple of times, unable to catch hold of Meryl, her chest heaving with anger.

She found Meryl utterly despicable, convinced she had come just to mock her misfortune.

Knowing Chandler was nearby, Rachel pleaded, โ€œChandler, are you just going to stand there while she bullies me?โ€

As Chandler was about to speak, Meryl gently squeezed his palm. โ€œDarling, you havenโ€™t rested since last night. Go home and get some sleep. Iโ€™ll take care of things here.โ€

Chandler froze. Meryl wanted to take care of this.

Rachel wouldnโ€™t let up. โ€œNo, donโ€™t go! Once you leave, sheโ€™ll bully me even worse!โ€

Meryl chuckled. โ€œSure, I might. But tell me, why should Chandler protect you, a stranger, instead of me, his wife?โ€

That shut Rachel up.

But being blind, she could only stand there helplessly, unable to

do anything.

Unable to win the argument, Rachel prepared to throw another tantrum.

However, after last nightโ€™s episode, anything throwable had already been removed.

Now, the room contained nothing but a bed and a sofa. They were both too heavy for Rachel to damage.

In an icy tone, Meryl declared, โ€œYouโ€™ll pay full price for everything youโ€™ve broken since last night.

โ€œThe neighboring rooms have complained three times already. Keep making trouble if you want, but donโ€™t be surprised when youโ€™re kicked out, and no other hospital will take you.โ€

โ€œStop trying to scare me with your threats!โ€ Rachel snapped. โ€œChandler wonโ€™t abandon me!โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t be so sure.โ€ Merylโ€™s words shattered Rachelโ€™s hope with brutal efficiency.

Meryl continued, โ€œIf Chandler gets fed up with your drama, he might just dump you on the street. Then what? Where would a blind woman like you even look for him?โ€

Rachel couldnโ€™t stand talking to Meryl anymore!

She felt her way to the bed and curled up under the blankets.

Rachel figured Meryl couldnโ€™t stay forever. Sheโ€™d be gone by the time she woke up.

Seeing Rachel finally settle down, Meryl stepped out of the hospital room.

Chandler followed, gently taking her hand and intertwining their fingers.

It was the first time heโ€™d seen this side of Meryl, and he had to admit Meryl was pretty impressive.

Rachel had been giving him a headache since last night, but Meryl had managed to quiet her down with just a few choice words.

โ€œArenโ€™t you mad at me anymore?โ€

โ€œWho said that? Iโ€™m still angry.โ€ She pulled her hand away. โ€œYou should thank your unborn child. Iโ€™m only giving you this chance for the babyโ€™s sake. Donโ€™t waste it.โ€

Chandler smiled as he gently placed his palm on Merylโ€™s belly.

Crouching in front of her, he gazed at her stomach and said softly, โ€œThank you, baby.โ€

Meryl watched the man before her.

Chandlerโ€™s eyes were downcast as a slant of sunlight from the window caught his hair.

His blond hair gleamed, and the way he looked at her was so tender.

Without thinking, Meryl ran her fingers over Chandlerโ€™s brows and eyes, feeling her heart soften.

Perhaps because sheโ€™d just given Rachel hell, Meryl was in a pretty good mood.

She figured it was better to raise hell than waste energy on inner turmoil.

Why should she be the only one suffering?

If someone had to be miserable, sheโ€™d make damn sure Rachel was stressed enough to develop nodules!

โ€œIโ€™ll be staying at Stone Villa for a while,โ€ Meryl said softly.

She knew if she went home and found Chandler absent, sheโ€™d just worry herself sick with endless thoughts.

โ€œChandler, no woman would take this situation lightly, but I want to trust you this once. I believe you can handle this properly. Please donโ€™t let me down.โ€ Her voice cracked as she finished speaking.

Chandlerโ€™s heart ached at her words. He immediately stood up and pulled her into his arms.

His lips brushed gently against her hair.

He said, โ€œI know this situation has been unfair to you. Give me five daysโ€ฆ No, three days! And Iโ€™ll go to Stone Villa to take you home.โ€

โ€œWho says I want to go back with you?โ€ Meryl punched his chest and wiggled out of his embrace.

Chandler let her go with a smile. โ€œFine, if you donโ€™t go home with me, then Iโ€™ll move into Stone Villa with you. Iโ€™ll be your live-in husband instead.โ€

Not far away, Felix sat in his wheelchair, watching the scene unfold.

Beside him, Philip held his breath, carefully observing Felixโ€™s expression. โ€œMr. Powellโ€ฆ please donโ€™t be angry.โ€

When Felix heard that Rachel had gone blind, heโ€™d rushed over immediately, leaving his rehabilitation therapy unfinished, worried Meryl would be heartbroken.

He wouldnโ€™t have thought heโ€™d walk in on them embracing.

Felix pressed his tongue against his cheek. His heart filled with an indescribable bitterness heโ€™d never felt for any woman before.

His voice was heavy as he said, โ€œWhatโ€™s there to look at? Letโ€™s go.โ€

Philip asked reflexively, โ€œBack to therapy, then?โ€

โ€œNo more therapy!โ€ Felix declared from his wheelchair,

completely dejected. โ€œWeโ€™re going home!โ€

Philip froze, his eyes darting to Felixโ€™s legs. โ€œBut Mr. Powell, the treatment isnโ€™t finishedโ€ฆโ€

Felix scoffed, โ€œSo what if Iโ€™m crippled? I donโ€™t have a wife anyway! No one cares if I live or die!โ€

Meanwhile, Meryl and Chandler had separated.

Meryl entered the elevator, apparently preparing to leave the hospital.

Seeing Felix in such a state, Philip took matters into his own hands. โ€œMs. Stone, wait!โ€

He rushed toward the elevator, pushed the wheelchair, and managed to squeeze inside.

The elevator doors began to close when Philip suddenly let goโ€ฆ leaving himself outside.

Philip said, โ€œMs. Stone, something came up! Please look after Mr. Powell for me!โ€

Felix hadnโ€™t expected Philip to pull such a stunt.

As the elevator descended to the first floor, Felix couldnโ€™t just sit there indefinitely.

After a momentโ€™s hesitation, Meryl wheeled him out.

Felix spoke up unexpectedly, โ€œYou know, dealing with Rachel wouldnโ€™t be that difficult.โ€

Meryl turned to look at him.

Felix narrowed his eyes, โ€œI could marry her and keep her at home, making her life miserable every day. Would that satisfy your grudge?โ€

They were already engaged, after all; marrying Rachel would only take one word from Felix.

Meryl shot him a piercing glance before turning to leave. โ€œHow tedious!โ€

Felix watched her retreating figure with a smirk. โ€œCanโ€™t bear the thought of me marrying someone else, can you?โ€

Bathed in the glow of the setting sun, he was almost swallowed by the blinding light.

โ€œIโ€™ve got dirt on her,โ€ he said with a cryptic smile. โ€œSweet-talk me a bit, and I might just tell you what it is. How about that?โ€
